LIVERPOOL have won the race to land Portsmouth's £19million full-back Glen Johnson.

The England defender is expected to have a medical on Merseyside tomorrow - unless Chelsea or Manchester City can gazump the Kop at the last minute.

Johnson, 24, has opted for Anfield after emerging as one of the most sought-after men in the Premier League this summer.

And his signing is a real coup for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who feared the club's financial crisis would force him out of the bidding.

There is still the slight possibility Liverpool could be thwarted, with Chelsea determined to re-sign the man they sold to Pompey for just £4m two years ago.

And City are willing to pay the Londoner £100,000 a week to move to Eastlands.

Johnson only signed a new four-year deal with Portsmouth in January but has made no secret of wanting a bigger stage.

Pompey hitman Peter Crouch is a target for BLACKBURN, who expect to sell Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City for £15m.

CHELSEA, Tottenham and *** nal face competition for Wolfsburg hitman Edin Dzeko from AC Milan.

The 23-year-old Bosnian ace, who was named German Player of the Year, is the Italian club's top target this summer.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani said: "Wolfsburg have declared the player is not for sale.

"But we will try again because he is our top aim, without a doubt.

"But in the case he doesn't arrive then we would consider our second and third aim."

CHELSEA failed with a spectacular bid to land Kaka last night, as the Brazilian joined Real Madrid for a world record £62million.

New Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti tried desperately to bring Kaka with him from AC Milan to Stamford Bridge.

But he was powerless to stop new Real president Florentino Perez sealing the deal.

As SunSport exclusively revealed, Chelsea will now go all out for Milan striker Alexandre Pato - though an initial £30m offer has been rejected.

Perez staged his Kaka coup after intense talks with Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

A Chelsea source confirmed: "Mr Ancelotti tried very, very hard to get Kaka to begin the new era at the club.

"But in the end Real Madrid had more money to spend. Now Chelsea are even more determined to get Pato."

Kaka's dad Bosco Leite helped the player thrash out personal terms.

The negotiations took place a day after Perez was confirmed as Real president after all rival candidates quit the race.

Kaka, 27, had tried to deny a deal was on, insisting he wanted to stay at the S
