Real Madrid have announced a massive debt of 327million euros ($A554.68million) after a northern summer of lavish spending in the transfer market.
Having doled out some 250million euros ($A424.59million) on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso, Madrid revealed the debt at their annual assembly.
However, the club appears to have lost none of its appetite for spending, with the assembly also approving a new record budget of 422million euros ($A716.7million) for the current season.
"We're going through a delicate moment with the world financial crisis but we had to make a big effort for the new arrivals of players, which explains the debt," club president Florentino Perez said.
Perez told the assembly that projected revenues, increased on previous years, should see the club cut their debt to around 210million euros ($A356.81million) by the end of the season.
The figures are likely to be jumped on by UEFA, whose president Michel Platini has announced plans to bar clubs from major European competitions unless they restrict their budget to spending only what they earn.
The assembly also heard of plans to remodel the Bernebeu and build a Real Madrid theme park at the club's training ground to enhance future revenue streams. |

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has defended his club against allegations from Le Havre that they illegally poached young French midfielder Paul Pogba.
"I think they are always going to bring Manchester United into it because they are the biggest club, without any foundation or knowledge of the situation whatsoever," Ferguson told reporters on Thursday.
"There has been a lot of jumping on the bandwagon but I can assure you that Manchester United behave absolutely correctly in all their dealings with young players and their parents."
Ferguson said paying a parent in a transfer deal would be the "biggest headache" you could ever have.
"This (accusation) was levelled by some frustrated director at the French club and he is now going to have to retract," Ferguson said.
"We do it impeccably, what other clubs do is obviously subject to a lot of controversy at the moment but I'm confident of our own club."
Chelsea was banned by FIFA last week from operating in the next two transfer windows over their signing of French youngster Gael Kakuta. |

I saw Real's opening game of the new Spain season and well...it's same old Madrid...
they buy all the players in the world that aren't defenders... then come match day their non existent defence leaks more than a sieve before the refs step in and help them with a dodgy penalty...
just typical.... |

A GIRL suffered cuts on her arms when soccer ace Cristiano Ronaldo kicked in a car window, it emerged last night.
The Portuguese star faces a police quiz over the injuries to Sara Pardal, 17.
Ronaldo, 24, allegedly flipped in his Ferrari in Lisbon when he spotted he was being filmed from another car.
The ex-Manchester United winger is said to have stopped and leapt out of the vehicle before booting a side window of the car. It shattered, sending broken glass flying over the teenager.
Sara, who says she was filming as a fan, was treated in hospital and called cops. |

GEORGE GILLETT has pulled off a stunning deal in America to rescue Liverpool from a financial nightmare.
Reds owner Gillett and partner Tom Hicks have been struggling to meet payments on a £350million debt incurred as part of their 2007 Anfield takeover.
But Gillett is selling ice hockey giants Montreal Canadiens to the brewers Molson for £340m - almost exactly double the price he paid them for an 80 per cent share in 2001.
News of his £178m profit comes just two weeks after Liverpool's accountants warned of "significant doubt" over repayments due on July 24 and defender Jamie Car *** er said he feared key players could be sold.
The sale should be finalised once NHL chiefs give it the all-clear. Canadiens spokesman Donald Beauchamp said: "We would expect the deal to go through in a month or two."
Gillett was highly regarded in Montreal as he helped out with cash to sign top players. But he has not made quite the same impression in England.
Liverpool fans have become frustrated at his squabbling with partner Hicks. The pair took out a £350m loan when they bought the club in 2007 and have made no progress with a new stadium.
Accounts show Kop Holdings, the parent company of the club, lost £42.6m in the year up to August 2008. Interest payments on loans accounted for £36.5m.
There could be further good news for the Reds now though as Hicks is hoping to sell off his Texas Rangers baseball team and make a £97m profit |

| operating income (not revenue) for man u last year was US$111mill , so they're sevicing the debt, but it's still a lot of money to be owing. On the flip side, Barca had an operating income of US$92mill with debt at only 7% of value, as opposed to Man U's 63%. The 10 highest debt/value ratios are dominated by english clubs. Liverpool, Man U, Man City, Ar5enal, Newcastle, Everton (others are Valencia, Schalke, Dortmund, and Real) |

Yeah, Man U have plenty in assets etc to stay afloat for a very long time. Chelski could be in trouble if the big Ruski grows bored with them.
Leeds spent up big, but in return they HAD to win European trophies to break even. They didn't and they will take a long time to recover, if ever!
Liverpool, like Man U (but not to the same degree) has plenty behind them to survive - and they don't get carried away on spending either. |

your certainly right that Real aren´t operating on a level playing field.
lets just hope that Barca and Man U are still a better team than them next season which will prove yet again that a bunch of champion players dont always make a champion team.
maybe one day the powers that be will finaly clean up the world game and introduce a sallery cap |

| Debts are not a problem as long as you generate enough income to repay those debts. ManU are easily generating more income than Chelski and Liverpool and have so for many many years. They are not just a decent footballing side, but a well-oiled marketing machine that generates huge sums of money especially in Asia. Leeds and Newcastle never did that. Besides, Newcastle has been mis-managed to an extend that would put a 7-year-old to shame. |

a lot of interesting points made.... its obviouse Real Madrid aren't operating on a level playing field and their abuse of the system means their capture of Kaka and Ronaldo aren't that impressive.....
secondly Liverpool and Man U are operating at debts but it was inflicted upon them by their American owners... Yanks always operate at a debt and when things go haywire they disappear and leave a long of furious investors, shareholders and creditors...
leave the mess for the taxpayers to clean up....
BTW there's no reason Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool can't end up like Leeds United and Newcastle... I don't think supporters realize how close they're flying by the seat of their pants.... |

real was the football arm of general francos regime, and a couple of times previously when their debts spiralled out of control they managed to find some way of getting out of jail. 1n 2001 they owed 270mill euros, sold part of their training ground to the government at heavily inflated prices and wiped their debt. By 2007 their debt was 224million euros again, and again managed to find a way to pay it off. How on earth can the rest of the world compete when the tax rate is only 17% and the club seemingly has a genie hidden away somewhere? Having said all that though, in 2007 man u's debt was 872million euros..
fella, real never had gullit, van basten and rijkaard, that was milan..
Kinger, think of the games over the past couple of years ronaldo has single handedly made a win instead of a draw, or a draw instead of a loss, let alone the games he won off his own boot. 68 goals in 2 years is a big gap to fill, and tevez has signed for man city last I heard. Ribery has turned down all english offers so IF he moves it appears spain is likely. Barca are after ibrahimovic, so villa to real to replace ruud VN who is looking to go back to the epl seems likely. Real might go for forlan if talks with villa stall.. |

How do they afford it? Because they have an individual domestic TV rights contract with MediaPro that pays an astonishing £135m a season.
And the so-called Big Four under the collective Premier League deal? A relative pittance with figures of United (£52m), Liverpool (£51m), Chelsea (£48m) and *** nal (£47m |

honestly ... I can't see one player making that sort of difference.
remember the number of games Man Utd went without conceding a goal giving Van Der Sar the record....
he is a big lose but just think of how much money Man Utd got from the deal. They paid 12.24 million pound and sold him for 80 million pound.
I am sure the can afford to pay Tevez' manager now to keep him if they want to and can go after some other players who suit their team.
Manchester United has always been able to keep themselves up
but looking at it when cantona left in 97...they got nothing in the 98 season but come 99 season they became the most successful english team in history to win the treble!
btw liverpool still have to fix their reliance on Gerard :) |

Kinger, in all honesty, do you think this could be the 5% drop Liverpool needed from Man U to take the title next year?
Though Man U now has a bit of 'loose change' to snare another champion or two! |

Dunno how accurate the wikipedia is on the figure but only thing I could find was their revenue was $600 million plus per year. We all know that not many of these clubs actually generate a profit so the buying of players for inflated prices is the norm. Chelski have been on similar sprees since Abramovich has been owner and the ex Thai president has spent a bit since owning Man City. Those two clubs are running deficits as well.
Not cheating neon, just the normal business for one of the most powerful clubs in the world. They did this before with the Dutch trio of Gullit, VanBasten and Rijkaard and the 'Galacticos' of Beckham, Zidance and Ronaldo. No, nothing new at all. |

We already know of Real Madrid breaking the world record to sign AC Milan's Kaka.... now news just in that they have broken the record again to sign Man Utd's Cristiano Ronaldo...
unconfirmed reports have also said that they have beaten Chelsea to get the signature of David Villa....
unless their financial dealings are honest, this is cheating and I'm beginning to believe those rumours that Real Madrid have their debts paid for by the government which is unfair.... |
