Re:tranfers news Reply to this message
MANCHESTER CITY are on the brink of completing a stunning £25million swoop for Emmanuel Adebayor.

*** nal's Togo striker will be offered a five-year deal at Eastlands worth around £130,000 per week.

That all adds up to a staggering £60m investment.

City boss Mark Hughes moved quickly after pulling out of the race for Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o.

City's opening offer for Adebayor fell around £5m short but they are willing to agree a compromise to get the hitman, 25.

Adebayor has been eyeing a move to AC Milan even though he signed a new long-term deal at The Emirates worth £80,000 a week last summer.

Gunners boss *** ne Wenger could use the transfer funds to bring in Bordeaux's Morocco strike ace Marouane Chamakh.

Adebayor's departure is likely to be welcomed by some Gunners fans who see him as disruptive.

Indeed one supporters' group even put together a joke brochure - similar to the one produced by Michael Owen's agents - in a bid to see him leave North London.

But the City faithful will hope he can recapture the form of 2007-08, when he plundered 30 goals for the Gunners.

And if he does that then they will soon forget about Eto'o, whose dithering over his future saw the Premier League club pull out of a £25m deal on Friday.

Milan may be spurred into action by the latest developments.

But City - who jet out to South Africa tomorrow for a pre-season tour - are confident of landing Adebayor.

Gunners strike star Robin van Persie believes togetherness is the key to landing his first piece of silverware with *** nal.

The Dutchman - who has committed his own future to the club - said: "We need to lift a trophy.

"Everyone needs to understand we have to do it together. If we do that we will."

ALEX FERGUSON has announced that Manchester United’s pre-season spending is over.
He insisted: "It is the end of our business, so all these stories about who were are supposed to be getting — forget it."

Ferguson — with £80million to spend following Cristiano Ronaldo’s sale to Real Madrid — seemed certain to add to the signings of Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia and Gabriel Obertan.

The United boss admits he made a bid for Karim Benzema, only to be rebuffed by the Lyon man, who instead became part of Real Madrid’s extraordinary spending spree.

He said: "There are some amazing numbers being talked about, not all of them realistic. It is very difficult to get value now.

"In a way we benefited through the sale of Ronaldo, although that figure was non-negotiable.

"But I feel we have a good squad, which meant there was no need for knee-jerk reactions.

"We asked about Benzema and we had a value for him. Lyon have done well because they got £36m but I think we took a sensible view."

Liverpool have completed the signing of French left-back Chris Mavinga from Paris St Germain.
The 18-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, has represented his country at U18 level.

He follows in the footsteps of striker David Ngog, who joined Liverpool from PSG last summer.

Rafa Benitez has spoken of his pleasure after Steven Gerrard put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension.
The skipper agreed a deal back in April to stay at Anfield until at least 2013 - and he signed on the dotted line after returning to training this week.

Benitez said: "We have spent this summer trying to secure the players we have.

"It's really good to keep Kuyt, Torres, Agger, Benayoun and Steven. They are the here and now of the club and for the future it is really good.

"We are really pleased. We have a lot of good players who want to stay, to win and compete. The message has to be the same again this year - to be there, to be contenders and to fight. If we can win trophies it would be fantastic."

Fancy Man U picking up 29 year old Michael Owen, whe he isn't even wanted by a basket case Newcastle side!

Surely he will be a bench warmer for most of the season, he is too injury prone to be much more!

Still, it sucks to see a Liverpool champ cross to the dark side!

*** NAL do not have enough cash to finance *** ne Wenger's Premier League dream, claims their second-biggest shareholder.

Russian Alisher Usmanov failed in an attempt to talk the club into a rights issue to generate funds for a transfer war chest for boss Wenger.

In a statement his holding company said: "The board are confident they have adequate resources to strengthen the squad. We do not share their view."

*** nal's only signing this summer has been Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen for £10million.

Re:tranfers news Reply to this message
*** NAL have slapped a £40million price-tag on Cesc Fabregas as they brace themselves for a bid from Real Madrid or Barcelona.

A Gunners insider said: "Nobody at *** nal wants to see Fabregas go but there comes a point when the money is too good to turn down.

"If *** nal receive a bid in the region of £40m there will be an enormous pressure to sell."

Emirates boss *** ne Wenger is desperate for funds to strengthen his squad in order to mount a credible title challenge.

The loss of midfielder Fabregas, 22, would seem like a hammer blow but the Gunners went on a 20-game unbeaten run in the league when he was *** ed last season.

Real and Barcelona are in the hunt for the Spaniard and appear certain to bid for him.

Barca president Joan Laporta signalled his intention to make an offer last week.

Laporta publicly invited the *** nal skipper to declare his desire to return to his boyhood club. And he said: "Cesc has Barcelona in his DNA and I think that one day he should play for Barca.

"We all like him very much - the technical director, the manager, as well as me. He's always been in our thoughts."

Fabregas openly flirted with both clubs last week as he branded *** nal "impotent" for failing to win silverware.

Re:tranfers news Reply to this message
Yossi Benayoun today spoke of his delight after signing a new deal to keep him at Anfield until 2013.
The 29-year-old put pen to paper on a two-year extension to his current deal this afternoon.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I am very happy that we have reached an agreement. Of course, to be at a club like this is a dream come true and I want to keep playing here.

He follows Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Daniel Agger and Dirk Kuyt in committing his long-term future to the club.

Boss Rafa Benitez said: "You know that our idea was to extend the contracts of some players and Yossi was one of these players.

"He has been really good for us over the last year, scoring crucial goals and getting assists, so we wanted to keep him and I'm really pleased with the extension."

R"ob, don’t talk to me about Owen .. that *** traitor.

Not that he’ll do much for you except warm the bench, you can put him with the rest of the United fogies, they should change it from MUFC to UGFC, United Geriatrics Football Club.

See you at soccer tonight.

clever piece of business by Alex... free transfer and incentives based contract mean he's got nothing to lose and don't forget Owen was at career best form for Real Madrid by coming of the bench which is what he will do at United...

Re:tranfers news Reply to this message
the transfer window is actually open until August 31st, which is a bit of a farce. The CL qualifiers will have started by mid August and so will the first round of the cup games. Players who MIGHT move before the end of august are sometimes withdrawn from those games or else they would be cup-tied. Likewise, a club can chose to play a player if they know the transfer is about to go through just to make sure that the player is then cuptied for the new club. It's a bit of a handbag-situation.
