being a huge football supporter and a big roar supporter i feel compelled to slay the rubbish chants that the roar army come up with. the "you're *** ....ahhhhh" chant after the keeper kicks out must be the most pathetic chant i have ever heard. and the dumb-ar$es chant it when we are 2 goals down. got me stumped. english football crowds are greatand the songs are pretty good. why the roar have adopted all the rubbish ones are a mystery to me.
where is the "you're *** and you know you are, you're *** and you know you are...." chant to opposition fans?
come on roar for the finals. go one better than last season. a gf appearance no less. |

| The difference between the Roar chant and the Shed chant is that we don't use the "You fat b@st@rd" lines. |

Sounds like you are talking about the "You're Sh!t Ah" Roar chant when the opposition keeper is taking the goal kick. |

Too right notsobigmp87. The only game other than thong throwing that is genuinely Australian is Aussie Rules, so to use League in an arguement against Soccer is flawed.
I think League is about to suffer big-time everywhere other than QLD though and that Soccer's use of the stadiums in summer might be one of the few saving graces for teams like yours. You might see a seismic shift from the oval ball to the round one in the League states.
No offence, just a fact. I say that as an Englishman brought up on Soccer with a League loving family, Union playing Kiwi mates and a personal love of AFL. |

i'm an avid NRL man - have watched the game since i was a kid (hence the reference to "i went to my first soccer match" as the opener to my statement. i'm never going to follow soccer over and above the NRL - no way. But for a football code played in summer, it seems ok - as notsobigmp87 stated below - and i may just start paying interest to it during cricket season.
soccer will never compete with League - and it was never the intent of my question to raise debate about which code is better. i enjoyed the atmosphere and the game (too much diving though - those soccer lads need to harden up).
i just wanted to know a little more about the crowd attributes so i could appreciate it a little more at the next soccer game i go to. |

John McCarthy, what a moron.
Rugby League was established in the northern sections of England. Clearly, there is room for both codes, as they both offer different entertainment value, run at different times of the year, and actually promote a nationwide competition, even extending to NZ.
Pull your head out of the sand. League has nothing to fear from soccer. The two can co-exist without a problem... i managed to play both, with both codes running concurrently, with no problems... so surely supporting them consecutively will not be an issue.
Besides that, the Soccer world cup is a financial bonanza, something australia could use. It will be idiotic attitudes from those like-minded to yourself that will hold it back.
And for the record, I am a massive Roosters fan, and love league, more than soccer, so im not bias. |

Mate. Are you Australian or a try-hard Pom? If you support this game you will do so at the expense of NRL.
It's no secret that the A-League are keen to set up teams wherever there is a rugby league team, because they can use the pitch and the facilities. Combine this with the fact that kids are soft these days and are more inclined to play soccer, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a day soon where soccers leeching of of the NRL teams becomes a takeover.
Be proud of your Australian codes (you might have noticed the amount of English football shirts in the crowd or the use of English football songs with the words changed to suit the Roar) and don't let this evil sport where being in the crowd is more entertaining than being on the pitch take root . |

| i went to my first soccer match seeing the Roar beat Wellington in the A League. I loved the atmosphere, and even though i am used to 25,000 - 30,000 fans at the broncos, was impressed by the 13,500 at Suncorp Stadium tonight. One question for the Roar fans - what do you guys chant when the opposition goalie is kicking the ball back into play after te ball has gone dead. The spirit fingers are great - but i'm not sure one the words! i need some wording up before i head in for my second game against Sydney FC or Adelaide (i can see myself being converted to the game!) cheers. |
