| I never saw Billy Vojtek play, but the Croatian clubs certainly did manage to produce some decent players over the years. |

| billy voychek [not sure how his surname spelt] was one of the best players i ever saw. he played for an australian croatian team in melburne during the 70s he was our version of george best. my humble opinion. |

| I think you missed my point - I dont doubt their quality as players but The fact is NEITHER of them ever played for Australia so I dont see how you can put them in to a "Best Ever" Australian team. Dorigo played for England for goodness sake & Craig Johnston explored making himself available for Scotland. It was Craig Johnston's choice not to make himself available - I think you will find any Australian manager at the time would have had him as the first one picked had he been avaialble - But he wasnt !!! Therefore in my book he doesnt qualify - no matter how good he was. |

I rarely get involved in such discussions, but wonder how bosnich (at his peak) could be left out, and how Scott McDonald gets a run? |

fella - yeah I know Rush, Barnes, McMahon, Grobblear the clown, Johnston, Aldridge, beardsley etc......
I always thought for some reason johnston was a defender :)
btw to the clown who keeps bringing up Tony Dorigo. He played for England so you can't name him in the australian team. If I remember rightly he was in England's 1990 World Cup squad and actually got a game in the 3rd place playoff |

the aussie players whether playing in oz or in europe in the past were ordinary. they did not achieve much at the international level and very sporadically with the club level (an odd title or cup).
So i tend to go with the more modern players the line up is as follows:
schwarzer
Tobin only because (I like the bloke)
neill
moore
vidmar
cahill
johnsone
Zelic
Kewell
Mcdonald
viduka |

| door mk, i am from Argentina, both DORIGO and Johnston were huge stars in England and world class players...and you as a football fan, betrayed them both, THey were pure class, Dorigo if were argie he would have played for our national team, a very technical left-back, and very talented for set pieces., and Johnston was a huge forward, very tricky, he would got back to midfield to drag out defenders and he was good with both legs.. Johnston also said that his dreams of playing for Australia were always destroyed, and he was always overlooked that is why he resigned from football |

Geez how old are you ke? You should know who Johnston is if you're a football fan. Heard of the Predator footy boot? I assume you know who Ian Rush and John Barnes are? Johnston is from the same era. |

Not a bad side tp. I dont think Zelic is a centre back and Moore is an easy replacement but I think Tobin was very good too. I like T Vidmar more than Dorigo and while Aussie played for England so I dont think he can be counted. Zelic and okan are similar players and a reaon why they hardly played in the same side together if i had a sweeper it would be Milan Ivanovic who was a former Red Star Belgrade and Adelaide city player had more class than Yankos.
An 11-
Bosnich
Ivanovich
Neill Yankos T Vidmar
Bresciano Okon Slater Kewell
Viduka Johnston
Subs: Farina, Tobin, Schwarzer, Lazaridis.
I just had a look at a list of names and there are a number of players there who could even get into this side but 11 + subs is what you can go with.
Before Bosnich and Schwarzer was a fella called Robert Zabica who I think was probably Australias best keeper ever. If he was around today he would be playing internationally. David Mitchell was tough man who played in Scotland but never got the kudos he deserved but you probably wouldnt play him and Viduka together.
What concerns me is the lack of tacklers in the midfield with only Slater being any good at it. |
