Ok, here we are, down to the last game of the regular season and Adelaide are in first with only 1 goal being the difference after 20 games.
Melbourne have a superior strike rate with 7 more goals than Adelaide but Adelaide have only let in a league leading 19 goals.Only Roar come close by leaking 4 more goals than AU.
The fixtures for this week- Adelaide v CCM, Melbourne V Wellington, Roar v Perth and Sydney V Newcastle for nothing.
Sydney and Newcastle are playing for pride only, as is Perth, their seasons all but finished as they can't make the finals. Perth, by upsetting the Roar, can stop them from going top. The Wellington v Melbourne game has something for both sides with a Wellington win giving them a shot at the four with an Adelaide win and a Melbourne win giving them a shot at top with a CCM win over Adelaide. Adelaide have to win to ensure top spot.
But heres the rub, not all these games are on the same day! This allows Adelaide a look at the results from the Victory v Wellington game and the Qld v Perth game to see what they have to do. A Wellington win v Melbourne will have them sweating all weekend hoping for an Adelaide win over CCM. If CCM draw with Adelaide they will stay 4th and cannot move any higher with a win. One can just about guarantee a Qld win over Perth but nothing is ever a gimme in a 2 horse race.
So- Adelaide win does not guarantee top spot. Only that 1 goal difference. Melbourne win by more than 2..... top. If both sides draw and Qld win by 3 they go top. A CCM loss and Wellington win puts the Phoenix in the 4. Melbourne loss, Qld win Roar go second. Melbourne Qld win Adelaide lose, Adelaide go third.
So many permutations and Adelaide in the box seat! Or under the most pressure? CCM will be able take it easy on Sunday with a Phoenix loss.
Am I looking forward to this last round? You bludy betcha! |

| The fact that Adelaide couldn't break them down in 3 full games is really where the difference lies imo. |

Re:No Adelaide United thread?? (PREVIEW)
Adelaide certainly did learn a few things from the ACL final defeats, which showed in the WCC.
However, Gamba are still a class above them imo.

Agreed m_e. They played a superior brand than Adelaide but the gap isn't as wide as the first 2 games suggested. They caught a very tired Adelaide who reacted slowly. At the WCC Adelaide had freshened up although Gamba still outplayed them Adelaide weren't far behind. |

haha Go Glory!
stuck it to Hacksville Victory!
Hackcat was extremely lucky to not have copped a straight red probably lucky cos kemp got 2nd yellow for a soft free kick (probably might not have got the card if ref realised he was already sitting on one - tough sh!t though!)
I'll sit back and enjoy a rare win :) |

Would never call a team I support chokers monday but thats what was reported by our paper from interstate papers.
I wouldnt base anything on this years ACL after beating Japan's (Kashima Antlers), China's (Chagchun Yatai) and Korea's (Pohang Steelers) 2007 champs. The losses to Gamba Osaka were not indicative of the closeness of the 2 sides with the WCC 1-0 loss being maybe around the mark.
Last years 7th can be out down to many changes from the GF turmoil the year before and settling in for Viddie as new coach.
This year is probably the year Adelaide have to win it all though, like you said. |

I think it would be a bit harsh on Adelaide to give them the chokers tag. They were not the best team in the league in any of those previous years imo. Same goes for ACL.
However, they are the best team this year imo, and deserve to win. |

After 3 games in 6 days Adelaide will have had a 5 day break by the time they meet the in form Roar. The instigator to their last win Taj Minniecon will come up against the best young left back in the country in Adelaides Scott Jamieson. Vidmar has fired up Cristiano by leaving him on the bench for 71 minutes against Newcastle (geez they are gonna need some help come the ACL) so Moore and co will need to be on their game. At least Danny Tiatto wont get sent off against Adelaide again, he will be missing with injury. A win here will secure top spot for Adelaide if Melbourne can only take a point from 4th placed CCM.
Would be better if Adelaide can go all the way and win the GF though. After 2 finals series and a 7th in the first three seasons Adelaide would be close to wearing the chokers tag (ok so they would be considered chokers- everyone interstate sees them that way if the papers are any guide) if they cannot finish off another season. |

It will be interesting to see how Ognenovski goes.
He will certainly be a nusiance at corners and set pieces with his height, but is less accomplished on the ball and defending against the more intricate plays you find in such leagues. |

If it wasn't for Adelaide, oggie would probably be back playing in Preston. While he had a prescence on the pitch, there were very few of the players that were sad to see him go. He'd thrown a few punches in the change rooms and he held nothing back in training, putting some of his team "mates" off the pitch with his over the top tackles.
Oggie will go wherever the $$$ beckons. |

Thanks for the info ,orright. I didnt realise there was a deal in place..I still think 40% isnt enough...Didnt the club have to cover the cost of flights and accommodation?? Or are the clubs covering 56% of the cost's and the FFA 4%?? i dont think so..or that another deal i dont know about?
************************* ************************* ********
Club covered most costs for flights and accommodation with the FFA coming belatedly to the party with about 30% of flight costs and "assistance" to upgrade their flight to Uzbekistan. They still flew economy to Uzbekistan and got business class on the way home.
Anyway, looks like Adelaide will see Kosmina sacked yet again as they put the final nail into Sydneys coffin.
Just on Sasa Ognenovski. It's great Adelaide have done a deal and let Sasa move on, but his whining was nothing short of a greedy spoilt b.i.t.ch. If it wasn't for Adelaide he'd still be the thug from the Roar and likely playing youth squad with Moore being their no.1 centre back. He should appreciate Adelaide gave him a chance to show his wares in Asia as who knows when that will happen for Roar players. Not knocking the Roar on this of course. |

| You'll find United a fair bit tougher proposition kingerik :) Plus Adelaide have a bit of extra motivation against every club after they doled out easy money to all the other clubs after all their hard work. Sort of like "we haven't given you this for nothing, we're gonna take it out of your hide!" lol |

| Your namesake scored again for Perth on the weekend and provided a cross that a Sydney defender turned into hsi own net. He's now calling himself Adriano Pelligrino. Amazing that in all his time in Adelaide he was known as Adrian. |

Do you read the Adelaide Advertiser smokin? I knew it before it was written there, but back when the A League started a deal was put into place that any monies from prizemoney from international competition would be split amongst the club and A League. 40% to the club involved 56% to the other 7 clubs and 4% to the FFA. I think a lot had to do with the fact the clubs were just starting out, the FFA had not done the Fox Sports deal and money was at a premium. So to ensure clubs survived they shared the wealth.
I am sure the more established the league becomes the prizemoney situation will change. It is only in it's 4th season and has done quite well in that short time. It is a pity Adelaide have to hand over their hard earned and the fact is the club will make a loss that Nick Bianco will cover but these are the sacrifices clubs are willing to make to have a successful league in the future. Anyone knows it can take up to 5 years before most businesses start turning a decent profit and with sporting clubs in the main it is hard to make any real profit. Look at Victorian AFL clubs that have been around for 100+ years that are still getting handouts to survive. |

| Merry xmas to you mick...although we come back with 2.2 million, apparently we have to share it with the league and all the other clubs...someone want to explain to me why this is so??? I find it very amusing that we do the work and all the other clubs are rewarded!! Never heard of any other sport that makes a winnning team share the spoil's with all other teams that did nothing. Im sure Man U have already divided up there prize money so the can share it with all the clubs in the premier league....NOT!!!!!! |
