I can't beleive I nearly forgot this game last night! One of the locals was showing it but with the missus working and having to look after the boy I was going to listen visa the world game online. Got in the car just before 9 to go pick up the missus and ABC was blaring it out and it was near half bl.o.o.d.y time!
Great game by the Aussies though. The addition of Cahill and Moore and Emerton playing further forward was just fantastic. Sounds like the penalty was dodgy though. Any thought from those who saw it? Doesn't make up for all the times defenders have hung off Viduka like he was a play gym but it is good to get one go our way.

it sucks how the socceroo's games are not on SBS :(

didn't get to see the game and didn't get too many highlights in the news this morning. Only showed Cahill's goal as if it was all him.

<<tell me what other sport at the moment is bringing in 22,000 people...I can't think of any.>>

Crab, I respect your passion for the game in Australia and I agree with you that the game is going from strength to strength in Australia due to a variety of reasons including recent successes by our national team and if Adelaide do get to the Asian Champion league finals that will be a huge boost but if you followed other sports you would know that the NRL and AFL are pulling crowds like that no problem. The NRL at Suncorp stadium regularly pulls 35,000 plus to a club game and the Titans at their new venue are pulling around 22,000. The AFL pulls crowds a lot higher than this.

Re:The Road to South Africa.. Reply to this message
It was interesting reading the herald sun this morning and there coverage of the game last night!!
In particular I was drawn to the the comments about the a-league not cutting the mustard..rehashing comments made previously by Pim Verbeek..what a load of shiite..honestly..these people need to get there heads out of there asses..any chance to have a little dig.
To get any word on the a-league one has to turn right to the back of the sport section to get any word on the a-league..tell me what other sport at the moment is bringing in 22,000 people...I can't think of any...
The standard of the a-league is on the rise..a good example of this is adelaide united..and how well they are doing in the club championships in asia..Mark Bosnich, commentating last night on Fox, who has played in some of the top clubs in the world..made mention last night that the football played by sydney and melbourne is pretty bloody good....I respect Mark Bosnich..how much more longer will these so called commentators of the game roll this shiite out...when adelaide wins the asian club championships?!..why don't they stop playing there games..of alterior motives and we have 'special interests'i.e. afl..shiite we forgot to mention that didn't we..
the a-league is on the rise..

Re:The Road to South Africa.. Reply to this message
Gee they were good last night..
That first goal was a class effort..
Shiite it was a worry for a while there that the game wasn't going to go a head due to the bad weather..
The commentary during the game was talking about how badly the Qatarians were playing but I just think the socceroos were to *** hing good to be honest..
Onwards and upwards..
Go the socceroos..

Re:The Road to South Africa.. Reply to this message
I'll be happy if Australia win 1-0 because winning is all that matters, not by how much. You want to see continued improvement but you have to respect that this will not be Australias strongest team on the pitch and players like Cahill and Moore haven't been a part of things for a while. Still, seeing a 4-0 win to Australia will be somewhat more exciting.

Try chess or keep an eye on AFL as its getting softer by the day.

soccer would be far too physical for you.

Re:The Road to South Africa.. Reply to this message
Fella, great stuff man..
I think the squad you have picked is spot on..
I really do think the squad..all round..is the best we have had..
I know we have a couple of quality players missing but I really do think we can cover these guys..when in the past it was a different story...
The coaching staff and obviously the players need to take some pats on the back for that one..
And I can't speak more highly of the move into asia..it's making us better..differing conditions..frequency of playing quality teams..it's magnificent!!
I'm already biting my nails..I tell ya..
Go the socceroos..

Re:The Road to South Africa.. Reply to this message
Harry, Bresc and Grella ALL OUT! Knew Kewell didn't play on the weekend and Vince Grella has had a claf injury which has stopped his Premier League season for a couple of weeks now but Bresciano was injured on the weekend.

Revised squad
Mark SCHWARZER

Brett EMERTON Lucas NEILL Craig MOORE Scott CHIPPERFIELD

Jason CULINA Luke WILKSHIRE Tim CAHILL David CARNEY

Josh KENNEDY Scott MCDONALD

Michael PETKOVIC, Matthew SPIRANOVIC, Mile STERJOVSKI ,Chris COYNE, Bruce DJITE

Ive started McDonald despite my doubts on him because eh has taken stick this year so will still be out to prove things and we could see his first international goal. Dave Carney is the only other leftsided player I know so I've brought him in more out of a lack of knowledge of other players. He has performed there and even played at left back but will never take that as long as Chippers is fit.
I even had thoughts of 3-5-2 by pushing Emerton up into the midfield because losing Kewell and Bresc is losing goal scoring power. Not to say Cahill, Carney and Culina can't score, just Emerton would add to the threat and it makes it just a bit more crowded and difficult for Qatar to break through to the last third. Moore would then go to the right because Neill can act as a sweeper if Qatar breaks through anyway.

Well I just found out that Bresciano is out as well so now I bring in Carney to play left Mid.
Scott McDonald doesn't make my starting line up!!!!
