Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
It is unlikely he would be any better in the A-League. Though you have say he did get us through the Asian qualifiers so maybe his experience would count for something if he coached a team to the title. A lot of people don't realise this who watch those other 'football' codes where there is very little competition. Arnold is on the world stage in a game every country wants to win.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Arnold is a throwback to the era that brought us hard & physical players like Yankos & Wade, honest toilers without a lot of technical skill or vision. The writing was on the wall when he left out players like Burns & Djite who may have brought an 'x' factor to the squad that they clearly do not possess in any meaningful quantity now. Playing for Roday JC in the Dutch league would have nurtured an inferiority complex that obviously still affects Arnold's thought processes (i.e. 'we're not good enough to match it with sides technically, so let's make sure we outmuscle them'). We briefly moved into the 21st century with Guus - why bother going back to the 1980s ith Arnold?

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
the long ball doesn't work either Arnold should have worked that out years ago or should be sent to the pasture and coach a social side down in Wollongong

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
stop blaming the coach, every player who has worn the green and gold for the last two games have been disgraceful i am ashamed to call them Australian players, it is about time that the team get brandished instead of a coach. Yes graham arnold is not the greatest coach in the worl but he is not kicking the ball is he.We had two golden opportunitise against Argentina the other night.

1st shot should have gone in but weak Archie Thompson needed a gola mouth that was a kilometre wide. ( Why he was ever chosen is beyond me as he cant even make the first team)
2nd shot was for the russian dude whose name I cant even spell shoots ten metres wide and couldnt even put pressure on the keeper

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
yThe two matches i have seen olyroos play have suggested:
- they lack suitable match plan and strategy
- inability to change any existing (??) matchplan to suit the game as it unfolds.
- far far too defensive resulting in no pressure ty to opposing defence
- classic example was after Argentina scored and in possession of ball. What did olyroos do? Nothing waited to see if Argentina would pass the ball back
to them when they should have been spilling blood to regain possession
- come on Arnold. Surely u can instill some attacking flair please. No use drawing next match. Attack. Keep possession. None of this back passing and ridiculous long ball passes that only have a 50:50chance of reaching the target let alone maintaining possession.
Arnold you must have learnt SOMETHING from Gus. Prove it to us please.
- right now u r letting us down being in charge and executing such ineffective match plans totally lacking imagination, tactics.
- shameful match plans

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Looks like Arnold, pick up only defensive players, 1 striker & 1 goalie ,the rest all in defence, wake up Arnold there is a big field to play, not near our goal keeper,& ge the boys to take shots not fart ass around,it was boring to watch against Agrentina,Players don't look that offensive enough & not fast enough & always looking to past back instead of going forward

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
1. tonight was not arnold's fault

2. as with the serbia game, the only players capable of making an impact were Spiro, Carney and Federici

3. arnold should go anyway, and the following should never be let near a national team ever again:
- arnold
- ron smith
- farina
- postecoglou

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Nikita Rukavytsya is definately one to watch he looked good and should have been on from the start as the aussies lacked pace and strength up front.
As for argentina I dont think there was anything we realy could do as they are the best at keeping the ball I still remember how they destroyed Serbia in the World Cup...
What about the comentator on channel 7 he was bloody annoying knew nothing about football and it was obvious.

BTW Nikita Rukavytsya is definitely a talent and one to watch for the future.... playing him as a lone striker at 0-0 and 0-1 was dumb!

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Arnold lacks any attacking imagination fullstop! It was so frustrating to see the Olyroos just standing there doing nothing as the Argies kept playing keepy offies...

The Ivory Coast showed that the Argies defence is full of holes and when the Olyroos constructed any half decent attacking moves it was all undone by lousy finishing not to mention those lazy and idiotic potshots at goal...

I saw this in the Socceroos Asia Cup campaign as well so please no more Arnold!

Rmharris is right.

the argentinans won't expect us to attack it's not our style. we must attack more as a team our football is pathetic at times you have to pass and move.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
I totally agree with attacking the opposition. If the Olyroos are potentially our future Socceroos, we must play attacking football to produce attacking midfielders and strikers. If we continue with our current defensive counter attack style of play, we will only produce good defenders. An example of this is Sarkies and Broxham, good talent with attacking ability, but they have both adapted a more central defensive play rather than an attacking role(thanks to Ernie Merrick). If our young talent posesses attacking abilities, nurture them for an eye for goal, do not hold them back to a defensive role early in their football development it will only hide away their natural flair. Austalia must play attacking football to increase our shortage of playmakers and strikers. I dont think Arnold and the coaching staff have the credentials to shift from their current approach to an attractive, fast and exciting style of play.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Too late now. I thought taking Milligan off made the defence look suspect and the goal by the Serbs, a near post header from a corner is one that Milligan would have easily defended. But Arnold has never been known for his tactical ability. His claim to fame is his ability to motivate the boys. His one striker formation is a throw- back to the days before our players were fully professional but Arnie still has that mentality.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
sorry but our performance against serbia was very very poor the tactics were terrible and arnolds inability to adjust the team effectivly showed his lack of ability.

Dave carney should have been used more in attack and had better support he made the run in the box and set up the goal. Zackovitch is really up himself I hope derby flog the heck out of him, he has the talent but his ego is a bit much.

Some of the defending was terrible the goal we let in was awfull. two men should have been on that big bugger to put him off. Arnold needs to change things against the argiees My belief is to attack attack attack them not defend because they'll won't expect that it will throw them off. play the offside trap high up the pitch negate Messi. we must be bold against them.

Can't see any other way.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Serbia were all over us the entire game but couldn't find the net. (credit to out defensive efforts) We got a goal against the run of play. Lucky result for us. We need to step up a gear if we are going to worry the stronger sides.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
I did not see game, I assume they played alright to get respectable draw.

Also assume the Olyroos are rated below Serbia, so must have been a creditable result.

Maybe Arnold and his men are doing a good job of it!!!

Here's hoping for more of the same.

Cheers

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
apparently Olyroos are ranked 15th out of 16 teams. After their performance the other night I can't see them getting too far in this tournament. Hope I'm wrong.

Watching the Olyroos play the other night..they just didn't look that comfortable on and off the ball..and I would have thought otherwise considering there preparation leading upto the games..i am hoping that it was a slight case of stage fright and we are going to see something different against the argentinians on sunday...

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
No he didn't, Rob Baan was coaching the team for the bulk of the qualifying tournament.

An a-league team? Well he did coach Northern Spirit in the old NSL (you know the thing that 7 bought rights to not show?) and got nowhere.

Sack Arnold.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Fully agree. Arnold should go. Results are not helping but what is worse is the style of play.
Football is a game where talent is more important than physical presence. Arnold has not understood that yet and probably never will ...
