Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
the problem with Craig Foster is that he has a unique ability to look like a real jerk, which i reckon he is.

But that doesn't change the fact that his comments are usually spot on.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
whats wrong with Craig Foster? He has been a large breath of fresh air as a soccer/ Socceroos analyst. Its obvious the Olyroos lacked firepower with a paltry one goal in 3 games..However the Asian cup performance was hugely lacking in many areas and if Craig is saying sack Arnold he's as useful as ti*s on a bull..then I wouldn't doubt that a change would be for the better

I was actually referring to the Matildas and the women`s olympic soccer. When they play Japan they usually lose 3-0
What`s the story?

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
For me and with the benefit of hindsight..I'm not so sure it's a cut and dry case..the olyroos campaign!!
I know guys I can hear you beating down the doors already....
There are a couple of the olyroos boys.i.e. Mathew Spiranovic..springs to mind..that really impressed throughout the tournament...but these kids were punching above there weight...as we were in a tough group!!
Argentina beat Brazil 4-0 nil the other day..to eventually reach the final..I think we did alright considering..
I know I was pretty disappointed myself quickly after the final group game..but I'm pretty happy now.
What happens to arnold...who knows..I still think he has a lot to offer..in what capacity..I'll leave that in the capable hands of the FFA...

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
When considering the style of play and the substance behind the ball i.e. position- systems, tactics and what players should cover what position - this is the coaches role and for the players to implement - Yet when the coaches get it wrong so does the individual players/ team - Yet - creativity and the above killed us- forget having a striker that can covert opportunities - What about the players/ systems that creats chances - The FFA from the bottom up is in danger of resting with the knowledge of yes we made it once - However with the Coaching and Style of weakness in our landscape can we rest with that?

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Robert - have some agreement with u there. Don't think the Oly's were played off the park, even though they looked laboured at times.

Thought they did quite well against No 1 team in world IMO.

Having said that - I am of the view Arnold would be best removed from national teams duty - as the stigma of failure is there.

Cheers

Didn't Arnold have a major influence on the team that was picked for Beijing?

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
You have no idea what you are talking about. Arnold has extensive experience both as a player and coach working under Guus. Australia played open and creative football throughout the Olympics but as usual, just don't have the strike power and the finishing required to take on the big boys. At no stage were they outplayed. Would you rather another import coaching our young guys. Give Arnold a striker that can finish and I think you will be quite surprised.
Please, you are sounding like Craig Foster..

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Arnold is taking Aussie soccer back 10 years, H e coaches like a coach who is afraid of losing,He would rather play 11 defence and lose 1-0 than allow the players to show their skills and play attacking soccer even if they were to lose 4-2. for the sake of soccer in australia FFA neeed to sack him and if Pim Verbeek thinks he did a good job then he also is not the right man for the job .

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
yep Arnie picked the wrong players. 1 goal in 3 games is pathetic!! No strike power. Always looks like we are playing for a draw while the other team is playing for a win... C'mon Aussie International soccer get you act together!

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Do not blame the players or Arnold (as hopeless as he is).

The players are just products of our Youth System - our elite pathways having been for so long dominated by the so-called "English Mafia", with their primitive "When in doubt, Kick it out!" and "Get it into the Mixer Son!" mentality of long-ball rubbish.

At least FFA has started to do something about bringing us into the 21st century - progressive football minds like Hiddink, Baan and Verbeek, and small-sided games at junior level.

But change is needed at all levels - junior, youth and senior.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
Arnold failed to select the best players leaving out Djite and Burns. It cost us because we created chances but lacked that fire up-front. Now for the A-League and the World Cup qualifiers. Football season has begun- at last!

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
You are right, we cant just blame the coach for everything, the players are to blame too. But Arnold picked this team, he left out players who should have been in the squad.

Against Serbia they played 'kick and giggle' football, this is when everyone is totally uncomfortable with the ball and the final outcome of any move was a long punt down field. Against Argentina they were a little better but still only wanted to hold on and not lose by too many.

Arnold is just another aussie coach with no idea about football, if the game against serbia had been a training session and i was the coach I would have stopped the game 100 times to teach these boys what football is really about. The amount of mistakes, bad decisions and just dumb dumb play was unbeleivable.

Re:Sack Arnold Reply to this message
If you didnt see the game how can assume they did well based on just a result?

That game against Serbia was one of the worst performances by any Australian football team ever! They got a draw because Serbia are rubbish too.

With Arnold leading the team we are going backwards, nothing against him as a person, he seems like a good bloke but his knowledge of the game is reflected by the pathetic performances of all his teams.
