It is looking bleak over there in the West..
Dave Mitchell..if he hasn't been already..looks like he could be sacked..and support for the Glory isn't good..
What will the impact be if the glory have to pull the plug!?
Here's hoping things pick up for the Phoenix..support wise..they seem to be playing reasonable football at the moment..(: |

GLory have struggled ever since Tana said he wanted to sell the club. They took too long to build their list up when the A - League started, allow Mitch D'ray to take a cossie job instead of the risky job of head coach. I guess it was easier for him to take on a team that already had players then to build one up from scratch.
DOn't know if location goes against them when they say Perth and then there is the added costs of having to travel over east every 2nd week but them are the apples they knew when they joined the NSL.
Oh those were the days!!!! |

SBS chief football analyst Craig Foster has recently come out in recent articles raising many questions regarding the NSW soccer federation..Craig Foster is a brave man and one I applaud...finally someone has had the balls to question/challenge the NSW soccer federation on a number of issues..stay tuned.
Perth Glory are as we speak in crisis talks...the club is in some serious shiite..will they survive or close shop!!
How will this effect the a-league..if they finish up..or will the FFA come to there rescue..perhaps they are already unsalvagable..
These issues effect the game..I'm not a news breaker golsgift..nor do I think I know shiite...but I do love the game and I am interested in what others have to say..cheers. |

Perth Glory could end up giving back there a-league license when there current contract expires if things don't pick up...recent reports have suggested!!
To expand or not to expand!!
It has to happen I gather but...
It would be interesting to see how all clubs currently in the a-league are going...
Melbourne Victory have the highest average attendances with just over 22,000 turning up to games on average..but how much is it costing them to hire out the stadium that holds over 50,000..
I don't know what do others think?!! |

Let's not forget channel nine's investment in the game (AFL) as well..
The three networks are so intertwined these days..
The water has become very, very mirky..
But when will people say enough...when all three networks split the coverage..
When one entity has such a powerful hold...it just is wrong...unhealthy..
I could go on..but |

Oy crabby, step back and take a look.
The networks are rubbishing soccer. Why? because now it is a fair dinkum threat. 7 and 10 have all their $$ invested in AFL, nine with NRL... they cant have soccer, so why let it flourish?
Mate, they are scared. And rightfully so. |

| I think corporately it DOES matter if the Socceroos qualify for 2010, especially broadcasting rights. Local interest in the league may not grow from it but international partnerships can be forged on the Socceroos brand name more so than Sydney or any other club for that matter. I'd suggest most if not all clubs are building "sister" (ok "brother" if it sounds more manly for youse lol) relationships with overseas clubs but will gain more sponsorship and the game and the FFA will grown from the success of the Socceroos. |

The sports reporter said this, or words to the effect, before he went to the break..the other night..
SOCCERS REPUTATION HAS BEEN DAMAGED..
The unbias (what a load of bullshiite!@$) reporter was referring to the spitting incident regarding Ney Fabiano..who plays for melbourne victory..
Let's talk about the rights that channel seven have with AFL..is this just another example of them exploiting there position/power...
What's wrong with this kind of behaviour...perhaps you could see it as bullying...i reckon it is..
When it is the only news they present on the local game..
But folks the water has become so murky..with secret handshakes and friends crossing over on different channels...who cares i guess.. |

| Why is it that when ever some shiite goes down with an rugbue league or AFL player...the news broadcaster comes up with some obscure shiite (incident) with a soccer player..seemingly to level up the scores..wouldn't haven't anything to do with what I term as 'special interests', would it ladies and gentleman...but those that have been around for a while know this kind of shiite has been going on for some time... |

And dont forget the Asian Champions League revenues (already announced) are going thru the roof.
Football revenue will be coming from a number of sources, and I have no doubt Foxtel will be increasing their coverage - more teams) and expanding funding more next time contract negotiations come round.
I dont think everything hinges on the Socceroos IMO.
Cheers |

Krunker, I don't regard crabman as 'Sydneycentric' at all!
He is a Melb. Victory man thru and thru, he is just generating an interesting topic regarding the FFA and NSW Soccer's reaction to the muscle that the AFL will bring to bear on this new club.
I agree that being proactive is the way to go and that if soccer doesn't plan for this move it may get caught with it's pants down in one of the heartlands of the game.
Frank is very important but I also think that the move into Asia has generated a sh1tload more cash than we previously enjoyed under the Oceania deal.
The next TV deal will be greatly impacted by the success or failure of the Socceroos in the 2010 W.C. qualification, and it will be a lot more lucrative if we are there again. |

Just trying to provoke debate Krunker!
I don't agree with your comment regarding the present foxtel deal is holding the game back..
When the initial deal was done a couple of years back it gave the game's administration money to work with to develop the game..the results are what we see today..
Personally, there is to much negativety surrounding the deal..when in fact I believe it help save the game.
If the socceroos don't qualify for the next world cup..will it have an effect on the next broadcasting rights...shiite yes! What will be closely monitored is the public's interest if the socceroos make the next world cup..because if it is near or there about's with the last world cup campaign..the FFA have good muscle to rely on when money is talked...it wiil all be about potential!!
If the socceroos don't make the next world cup..and I believe they will..in my opinion they are not going to have as much muscle...think about it...the less money there is..the harder it is going to be to develop the game further..
My comments about Frank Lowy and how much is the man putting into the game..financially...are genuine...and by no means am I having a go...
I again ask...I'm hoping that the nsw soccer federation is working alongside the ffa to counter the work that the afl are going to be doing..or what are they actually doing..we already have a strong foot in the market..for me we can only lose ground..and if we do that means that the people involved either don't have the resources or the money to do the work that is needed...because the afl is here.. |

socceroos were terrible in '07 but A-League attendances and TV ratings just went up and up.
if anything the current 3 year foxtel deal is holding the comp back.
if you took off your sydney-centric glasses you would see that 2010 qualification will have little or no effect on the a-league |

Or how reliant is the game at present on Frank Lowy?
What would happen if something happened to Frank Lowy?
I'm not having a go here...just curious?!
The local game needs to expand..but is it affordable?
If the socceroos don't qualify for the next world cup..how would this impact on the next television rights...fu#$cking huge I say... |

It wasn't all bluff and smoke screens..the AFL are going to land in the West of Sydney...
The NSW Soccer Federation is the largest in the land...football in the state is popular..we already have our feet firmly planted..so how are the FFA and NSW soccer federation going to react and to the point are they already doing enough..to get the word out there..
Don't get me wrong here...I think Ben Buckley has done a stirling job with the various soccer federations in the country...at least now there seems to be more harmony and cooperation here.....
But why aren't Sydney FC getting bigger crowds...
There's talk again of expanding the a-league competition..which does have to happen..but there are clubs still not paying the bills..
How much of his own money is Frank Lowy putting in!!
How much of an effect would it be if the socceroos don't qualify for the world cup!!
I don't know just putting shiite out there.. |
