Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
Listened to the game on radio and Pohang again the better side but couldn't finish (not many chances for both sides anyway. Vidmars good structure and a bit of brilliance from Diego got Adelaide through. Just a draw against Yatai in China will do. Tough task considering they held Adelaide at home but after last nights ordinary game from Adelaide I expect a much better showing from the boys in red.

for some real football, try this game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/signup.pl?ref=588337 7
No matter what you want to call it, it is Gridiron. Cant call a game football where only one man kicks the ball. You can call it chuck the ball or padded up ball due to players being padded up but not football.

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
Bl.o.o.dy great news coing out of Korea.Pohang Steelers have only 4 first team regulars playing against Adelaide United in their next AFC match Wed night. United will be without Constanzo and Cassio at the back and Djite is still missing but this is a chance to pile on the goals if they keep their heads. Win this and only a draw is needed in China against Yatai. Woo hoo 1/4 finals here we come!

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
To tell the truth, any J-league team passed the group league untill last year.
Somehow, all J teams were beautifully defeated by Koreans, Chinese, Iranians and Arabs, every year.

Last year J-league started offering support for the team participating AFC champions league.
It must be something to do with last years successes by Reds and Frontale.

SBS reporter Scott mentions "mihgt of J-league" from time to time.
Past history bravely denies his comments.

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
I've never thought a club team based in Thailand upsets J-league and A-league team.
Upset, upset and upset.

Next game between Gamba and Victory is quite important.
If Victory loses this game, there would not be any possibility to come out on top in this block.
Losing twince in the group league is end of the AFC champions league.

For Gamba, they won against Korean in away game.
But Korean coud be come out as the weakest in the group.
Gamba also cannot lose the away game against Victory since they failed to win against Chombri at home.

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
what an awful result from melbourne :( they were well and truly outplayed by chonburi who they were expected to beat. i can't see them having much hope of beating gamba osaka twice because they're going to have to if they want to qualify now.

also a missed opportunity for adelaide to take charge of their group.

Hope u all noticed I forecast 2 - 0, further down this thread.

Very good wins both clubs, maybe A league is not so bad as some seem to push around Oz eh?

Thought Victory looked extremely good. Well done to both.

Bring on China and Japan!

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
I'm glad we won too sportzgal but not quite my sentiments including Bruce D. He is getting better all the time and I think he took over from Burnsy this year as a young player of great promise. If there is an A League squad of Socceroos that lines up in a WC qualifier then he should be in the squad, but I expect a better Aloisi after having a look at ALeague with CCC last season and of course there is Archie Thompson. I think Scott McDonald needs to prove himself away from the Scottish league but long term it is he and Josh Kennedy who should be partnered up front.
All we need now is to win our 3 games at home and take a point in Vietnam and we're through. Long road to travel before that though.

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
great wins :) hopefully they can keep it up and progress out of the group. good crowd in melbourne for a wednesday night.

the correlation between melbourne and the other two clubs is that they are a-league clubs... both clubs had lower crowd levels in the champions league. i think that will be the case also with melbourne with them expecting their largest champions league attendance in last night's match.

Pohan were suppose to win easaly pre game.

They have 1/2 the korean national team playing AND we were 10 men down for 40min

That was a gusty win, our BEST win to date!

And if Bruce doesnt play for the Soccerooo then Pim needs his head read!

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
Pohang Steelers - $150 million clubrooms/hotel complex Adelaide United- Leased Hindmarsh stadium from the government. One Denilson lines up for Pohang whilst Adelaides best credentialled is Paul Agostino who is not playing this match. As much as Adelaide is up against it I look forward to them putting up a good show. At least Aurelio Vidmar will not leave you wondering on the attcking front. As for crowd comparisons, people tend to forget the population disparity and probably the way last season A League finished for Adelaide might have something to do with the crowd factor.

Toad

Cannot see the correllation between Victory and the two clubs u mentioned.

There will be good crowds as long as Victory play well (to their potential) and the opposition are competitive, especially against SKorean and Japanese sides IMO

Cheers

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
Will Melbourne be able to sustain big crowds throught the Champions League? I know they are expecting a good crowd for tonight's first match, but Adelaide United and Sydney FC struggled to get crowds around their A-League average level last season.

Crab

Very important for a first up win here.

Looking forward to see Victory at their very best.

Thompson will be important imo, needs to be creative and open up those fickle Asian defences.

Forecast 2 - 0 to the home team.

Cheers

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
The move into asia is such an important thing..
For club and country..
If anything it gives us some gauge to where our players are at..compared to what the best in asia have to offer..
I was recently encouraged by the interview on SBS's the world game program with technical director Rob Baan..(a sigh of relief)..to know that we are moving forward..with player development, amongst things...most importantly the desire to see the game grow was evident...

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
It's going to be a tough ask for both Adelaide and Melbourne. My hope is that one of the two gets through to the next round. Hoping for another big crowd for the Melbourne game!! Victory at there best could pull a few surprises. I know it's a big call, considering the teams that line there group but I believe quite strongly that the team can go further than all before them....it's still to early..Carn the Victory...

Re:AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Reply to this message
From all accounts, the Chinese are the team to beat in Adelaide's group, with the Japanese the obvious favourites in Melbourne's group.

Only one team from each group qualifies for the knock-out stage, so little room for error.
