You guys sound altogether different in your attitude towards the WALs after that win. As I said before, I think they are a good team and are only a year away from proving it. They will be a force to reckon with in the WC.

Blessings

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
Hey Posts,

good comments mate.

Am a very big fan of Gits, also try to be objective. Perhaps I sounded a bit harsh. I stand by my comments though. He should have done the jinking runs when he was running @ 12 - which was quite a few times. When @ 10 I felt he shoulda concentrated on releasing the outside backs - not taking on an awesome defender in Wilko. He never once looked like breaking thru Jonny or offloading. IMO he still has a ways to go as a solid 10 & I think that's why Robbie didn't want him as VC.

Like Cooper & Ioane combo in attack. Quade has A LOT of work to do on his defence, both in the tackle and at the ruck.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
Just saw the match myself. Gale, what are you going on about with Gits? My mate did okay. One day, you'll come back to me and apologise for all you inaccurate comments. Well, so I would like to think......LOL.

Thought Gits 2nd half was very good. Very sound. He and Quade shared responsibilty very well. I didn't see Gits put a foot wrong. (Were you expecting him to perform something miraculous??). His first half was okay, although not his best, but give the guy a break. He is one tough, talented cookie who would be first pick in my team.

Sprou, England played well in the last 10 min because they were desperate. They were more cautious early on, because they were put under pressure by a swarm of green and gold jerseys. Diggy and Quade were coming at them all the time in midfield. Palu was unrelenting up the middle.

This is the makings of a good team. We don't need the overrated Cross, or the inexperienced Oak (YET!!). I believe Oak will be good off the bench at this stage of his career. He will make his mark later on. AAC is now developing into a good, consistent player, whether it be centre or fullback. Sometimes you have to persevere with talent like this before they mature into reliable matchwinners. Gee, I just can't understand why you guys want to keep changing the team every week!!!

Back in Melbourne now for a few months. Hope to see some good rugger here in the autumn. Pee-ed off with that BS exhibition match in Japan. Thank God it mattered little...no further comment. Had a great holiday before that.

Next week will be tough. So will Wales. Only a slightly (and I use that word cautiously) weaker Scotland will give us a "breather". Not an easy tour, but we are capable.

Rocky is going to be a good leader.

Finally got to watch the match.
Was a tough game and never really in the bag until the final whistle.
England played well but they only started to play footy in the last 10 mins, why not play the whole game with that intensity.
Palu,Genia,AA Cooper,Robbo and Moore were stand-outs although I think Mitchell,Hynes,Quade,Elso m all contributed.
Smith was quiet and Chisolm and Horwill are struggling to compete. They are trying but arn't adding to the game.
Can't complain.
Oz beat England.
I'm Happy !!

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
Agree about most things Gale except Smith being flaky and Wilko for MOTM. Not even close to Genia in my books. Best POMby far but there were three or four Aussies ahead of him.

Great effort to keep the poms try less at home. And I can't help but think the Cooper Ioane combo will only get better.

They still have a lot of improvement to do, but given this side is lacking match fit and a quite a few new combos picked, they will only get better.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
Also Bad were Cooper's defence and rucking and AAC kicking out of hand and fwds rushing breakdowns and running away from suppor to be isolated unnecessarily on several occasions.

All fixable - bar Coopers D

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
A great 2nd half win by Wallabies. That mustve felt good following many tes where they couldn't maintain the rage

if my assertion about match fitness is correct, and they stay injury free, Wallabies should only get better:

THE GOOD
Genia - great game. Great everything by him.
AAC - looked dangerous all the time and defended heroically.
Palu - ran and defended like a man possessed.
Robbo - destroyed both his opponents - even with ref slowing him down and had a great loose game as well, including many times as acting half.
Elsom - had a solid match in attack and defence.
Cooper - showed some great skill and vision with ball in hand
Ioane - damaging in attack & D.

THE BAD
Lineout was shaky
George looked flaky - Losing his pattern in defence and lacking speed & intensity to the breakdown on as game wore on. As soon as P0k0k came on the there was a menace at the ruck.
Gits - who decides to back themselves running at the world's bean defending 10? On several occasions. Plain dumb when you have strong outside backs and 15 lined up to carve up inexperienced Pommie midfield.

THE UGLY
Martin Johnson

Some areas to work on for sure, but all can be corrected. Overall a great effort by Wallabies.

Jonny Wilkinson shaded Genia for MoM IMO. Evertime he touchedthe ball he looked dangerous or sublime. Without him, it wouldve been a rout. What a player. Just awesome.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
who cares if it wan't englands strongest side. They have a bigger comp than australia and should have the depth...So suck it up....

Great to see jonny back though...thought a few things that he did was insperational to the Englands side.

Genia awesome stuff...you can tell how much he wants his jersy and AAC should stay at fullback. The team is coming together but the next test is Ireland. A hard fought slogg...I think theere was some great breaks from both sides...great to see some running rugby......

Rocky elsom deserves Captainency though....see how he talks to the guys...all intensity...

Go go Wallabies

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
how good is this Will Genia...great game by him,he improves every week...Palu is also coming back to form and Ashley Cooper showed great power o carry 3 defenders on his back for his great try.Quade Cooper also maintained composure and tried to get himself involved a lot in the game,he seems to be a much more mature player now.
the only changes to the team that i see for next week are Polota Nau to start, lineout really improved when he came on the field and also Dean Mumm to replace Chisholm in the starting team,Chisholm was really quiet lately.
i know England missed a whole lot of players...but if the Wallabies can keep the 2nd half performance level for the rest of this tour i think they are in with a really good chance for this Grand Slam.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
I know most of you will take a win over the Poms anyday but they are hardly the toughest English side you've faced....

we're still behind South Africa and New Zealand and this tour should give us an idea of where we rank against the Europeans...

Ireland and France are question marks but we should be ahead of Wales and Scotland....

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
they deserved to win by the performance they put in the 2nd half...whatever words were said in the dressing room were the right words,it was a totally different Wallaby team that came out after the break, and to keep England scoreless in the last 40 was really good to see.
in the 1st 40 was a different story,England dominated clearly and they deserved the lead, they had more commitment, more structure...so yes...not a brilliant(see the 1st half by the Wallabies) win but a win so well done Wallabies.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
not a brilliant win but a win by the Wallabies after all...well done.
lineout needs a lot of work still, discipline needs to improve a lot...also a worry the number of attacking opportunities the Wallabies had in England's 22,especially in the 1st 15 minutes of the 2nd half and they failed to score.
but again,a win is a win so well done Wallabies, really big test coming next week against Ireland.
well done England too, they put a lot of heart and commitment in their performance.

18 - 9 to Oz 72 minutes, have had to record the second half as kids getting TV time before AB's game.

Looks like Oz have turned it around.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
I think this continuous swapping of Gits/Cooper, Gits/Barnes at 10 and 12 depending on attack or defence is confusing only the Wallabies.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
what is with Giteau just trying to do everything himself, and not passing the ball when we have an attacking opportunity?just gets himself isolated and gives away penalties...it will be a tough second half,i really hope England can't keep up the intensity....or better i hope the Wallabies step up the intensity big time, otherwise the game is gone for them.

Re:Aus v England Reply to this message
9-5 to England half time.

Big respect to them, they played very well and had good structures. Can they keep it up for another 40?

The Wal looked shell shocked and have given away stupid penalties because of pressure. They don't seem to have any structure. Robbo and palu playing well. They have a lot to do in the second half like winning a lineout for instance.
