| Of course it's the correct decision - NZ would pay anything to ensure they don't play France in a SF. |

| I've always been a fan of the one off Bledisloe Match given to the holder at home. Leave the other games as just tri nations fixtures. I understand that these games are just for the coin, the point I was trying to make is Japan hosting the WC is gonna be a struggle. When you struggle to sell out 2 of the biggest teams in the world how are you gonna sell out Scotland v Portugal in Japan? |

Ado: >for one reason - money
Thought that's what I said. The issues, I'd have thought, were (a) whether making money is what the Bledisloe Cup was established for, and (b) How playing 4 games (regardless of where they are played) advances the competition. I just don't see the arithmetic.
That said, I'm quite happy to have an AUS-NZ test pretty much any time and anywhere, and having a serious game before the NH tests seems to me a very good idea (especially for AUS). Just not sure it needs ot be (or should be) Bledisloe.

| You guys seem to be missing the point. The ARU and the NZRU have agreed to hold this game in Tokyo for one reason - money. The entire event is being underwritten and I would suggest that despite slugish sales, you'll see a packed stadium on the weekend. |

Lets assume their are limited expats
Would people in NZ watch a SA vs Aus game
Would people in SA watch a Aus vs NZ game
Would people in Aus watch a SA vs NZ game
You will have minimal attendance for those fixtures to be quite honest i think NZRU and ARU were a little bit optimistic to say the least!!! |

markbishop: >Calling it a Bledisloe games a joke.
Agree entirely. What is the point of more than 3 Bledisloe games? Oh yeah, to make a bunch of money. Well then, maybe we should go best of seven? Like the World Series in baseball. But 4?

Calling it a Bledisloe games a joke.
Rocky Elson turned upto the press conference and was asked to hold some foreign object up with Richie McCaw, poor bugger looked confussed until they told him it was the Bledisloe Cup, Something he had only heard of in stories told by Australian rugby players many years ago LOL
Possibly to do with the Squads, but (and no offence) would the Japanese even know?? |

England would sell it out Mark
I think the lack of support for the SH duo is interesting
Maybe the Bledisoe is not what it was given the current squads

For the 2011 RWC a lot of countries including Australia voted for Japan to be the host.
I argued that Japan needs to prove itself with a smaller comp like a sevens comp before its given the No.1 event the game has to offer. They somewhat did that now with the U20 WC.
I think the fact that Tokyo, a city with nearly three times the population of NZL is struggling to sell 48,000 tickets to a game featuring 2 of the biggest teams in the world shows that the decision was correct.
I live in a city of 70,000 and we would sell it out in hours if they brought it here.
