| I feel sorry for Jon Smit. He has had to become quite the diplomat in order to cover the senseless drivel from his coach. He was interviewed and asked about his coaches remarks. They will probably still be there for the WC - the players that is - but some of them will have some hard yards on their bodies and their age by that time. | No matter what kind of coach he is, his people skills off the field of play are lacking. He needs a PR officer and should never be allowed in front of a microphone. That being said, I still feel he must bring something to the coaching realm. A poor coach will achieve poor results and a good coach will achieve good results. He is achieving great results at the moment. If indeed he is a poor coach as reflected by his publically embarrassing statements, then the BOKS will implode before WC. Of course, that would be fine by me as it increases the ABs chances. So help me, the ABs need all the chances they can get during their nemesis - THE WORLD CUP. LOL Blessings mel |

| In another interview he has clearly done us a big favour by completely alienating the Hamilton crowd. Not only that he says that he wants to stay away from negative press. As a result the Boks will stay in Queensland until later in the week before traveling to NZ. This is a bit annoying for the locals as the kids love to get a chance to see the Boks and get some autographs etc. The man needs to give it a rest and get on with promoting the game. A game which has been sold out for weeks. The Kiwi supporters respect the Boks as there biggest challenge love to get a chance to see them around town etc, and he has just gone some way to destroying that respect. He obviously doesn't read the Aussie press because guys like Spiro Zavros lambast him and the Boks at every opportunity. As a result I expect the Crowd to be merciless with the Boks and add another dimension to the Allblacks game. |

| I take your point Mex, but it's hard to be one thing in public and another on the coaching field. Just ask yourself: "If I were in that team and he were my coach, how would I feel about him saying stuff like that?" The guy has limited ability and has been provided a lot of quality support in the coaching and senior playing ranks. I hesitate to guess that's why the Bok team is aging as well. They need Smit, Matfield, du Preez & de Villiers to lead the team - on the field and off. Bok, I really feel for you man... |

| Regardless of what type of coach he is and whether he was a political apointee or not, he sure lacks good judgement. He reinforces the strong sentiment against him by his rediculous allegations. What a sore looser. I hope that the BOKS get thrashed on Saturday by the ABs. I hope it is by 4 tries and that the ABs get the bonus point. If the WALs were up for the win for the tri nations, I would hope they would also thrash the BOKs. | Now that I have said that, I just read the interview with him where he stated that the referrees conspired against the BOKS to bring them down to the level of the teams that they were playing against. He offered as evidence their body language. I can understand the passion this guy engenders against himself. He really takes the cake for saying the dumbest/stupidest things that I have ever heard and international rugby coach say. If what he is saying is true, then the ABs have consistently had referring conspire against them for decades because they have been consistently rated as the no 1 team more than any other. Of course, I don't believe that and neither should Mr PdV. He truly needs to be censored by his own rugby board. Such an outlandish statement is worthy of being fined. If he continues to say such outlandish statements, he needs to be removed. He brings the game into disrepute with such statements. I also noticed he only makes such statements after he has lost..... | Even if all you say is true Gale, there is one question that begs answering. I am a firm believer that a team will fair better with a great coach. This being said, how do the BOKs have a number 1 rating in the world if PdV can't coach. My suggestion is this: perhaps in front of a microphone he suffers from foot in mouth but on the coaching field he does a good job. If he was such an idiot, surely you would see a revolt from amongst the players and certainly you would not see the results that the BOKs are achieving at the moment. Blessings Mel |

| PdV had many established white rugby coaches doing much of his work for much of his time as an 'apprentice'. But it's not the fact that they are white that is key, it's the fact that they are great rugby coaches who were there to make him look good. instead of picking a group of bright, black potential coaches, the officials picked an idiot whom I imagine they thought they could control. And they sacked the most successful coach in the world at the time - Jake White - on the way to their political ambition. Well, it looks like it's taking shape: SA may have hit their rugby pinnacle, having replaced a union stronghold with a house of cards that appears perilously close to falling apart. I hope someone with some ballscan get in there and pull it together. |
