1 hour to go !!
Might crack a beer and get myself ready for an epic.
I hear it's a bit wet and windy in Auckland this arvo,so ball handling and accurate kicking will be paramount.
Lets hope Gits and Barnes boot's are on song tonight.
History is up for grabs for the Wallabies.
1/4 of a century since we last won there and the time has come.

It seems Victoria still doesn't want any support for Rugby!
NSW get to see it live from 5pm - while Victoria have to wait until 1:20am.... PATHETIC !!!!!!

Melbourne Channel 7....you leave a lot of supporters fuming!

Not sure I understood your comment Rhino, but I've backed Wallabies to win by at least 7.

Killer, I can't wait till the Teletubby makes the Woodpecker look like a hapless, foundering, featherless kiwi... LOL!!!!

And I love that delusional Kiwi love of all things Nonu. Wonder what brand mascara the big *** will be wearing on Saturday night?

The best thing about this game is, Australia's not the underdog. For once they are the favourate deservingly so i guess the pressure is not on the ABS. The pressure is on the Wallabies to beat a weakened side AB side. Abs will win this very close game...by 13.....

Gale

On alot of previous posts you've come across as an alright person, but the Teams for Saturday, i read it, got balls or get balls. What you were trying to say was the Wallabies are gonna kick the Allblacks @$$.

Personally i find that very disappointing.
Personally myself i think Australia have a good chance of winning at Eden Park, but hey, i gotta go with the ABs.

So i guess you Aussies have got your @$$ kicked once again.

Re:2009 3N Opener - AB v Wallabies in NZ Reply to this message
Mils v Cooper. Mils better
Jane v Turner. Turner better
Smith v Mort. Mort better
Nonu v Barnes. Nonu better as shown all year
Sivi v Mitchell. Even only because of Siti's time out
Donald v git. No contest Gits gets it
Cowan v Burgess. Even and that's being nice to Burgess
Rodders v Palu. Rodders, better hands higher work rate.
McCaw v Smith. Even only because of game time
Kaino v Brown. Even although at home expect Kaino to dominate.
Ross v Sharp. Old and slow verse young and enthusiastic. Sharp wins on experience.
Thorn v Horwill. Thorn wins through mongrel. Horwill shades
Tialata v Baxter. Even
Hore vs Moore. Hore, much better at the break down, throwing in and gives away far less penalties. Moore will be good for 6 points for lying all over the ruck or his usual trick of coming in from the side.
Woody v T.Tubby. Woodcake better, loves to score against Oz.

16. Keven v Tatafu. Kev wins both on form and experience.
17. Franks v Alexander. Not sure call it even
18. Jason v Mumm. Mumm
19. Kieran Read Best eight and six back up option
20. Piri v Genia. Weepu
21. McAlister v O'Connor. O'Conner
22. Josevata Rokocoko. Specialist best wing option

David Po *** Best seven option
Phil Waugh. Second best seven option. Both specialists and offer a mediocre 6 option, no 8 option and no line out option.

Re:2009 3N Opener - AB v Wallabies in NZ Reply to this message
Teams for Saturday:

Have matched each position by rating individuals either (A), (B) or (E) for 'even'.

New Zealand: 15-Mils Muliaina (A), 14-Cory Jane (B), 13-Conrad Smith (B), 12-Ma'a Nonu (E), 11-Sitiveni Sivivatu (A), 10-Stephen Donald (B), 9-Jimmy Cowan (B), 8-Rodney So'oialo (E), 7-Richie McCaw (captain) (E), 6-Jerome Kaino (B), 5-Isaac Ross (B), 4-Brad Thorn (A), 3-Neemia Tialata (E), 2-Andrew Hore (B), 1-Tony Wood *** (B).

Australia: 15-Adam Ashley-Cooper (B), 14-Lachie Turner (A), 13-Stirling Mortlock (captain) (A), 12-Berrick Barnes (E), 11-Drew Mitchell (B), 10-Matt Giteau (A), 9-Luke Burgess (A), 8-Wycliff Palu (E) , 7-George Smith (E), 6-Richard Brown (A), 5-Nathan Sharpe (A), 4-James Horwill (B), 3-Al Baxter (E), 2-Stephen Moore (A), 1-Benn Robinson (A).

(A) - NZ: 3, Aus: 8
(B) - NZ: 8, Aus: 3
(E) - 4

McCaw only scores an E because he's a legend. On form, he's a definite B, and Smithy's a legend too!
The remaining 'Evens' I have been soft on NZ for 2: Baxter is in better form than Tialata, Barnes better form than Nonu.
So'oialo & Palu would be on par for from.

Aus bench looks better than Kiwi as well.

Real question is: to what extent is the 'paper' score rubbed out at Eden Park? Answer: Will possibly be totally irrelevant.

Chop & Ado,

Thank God for a NSW win! BK did have a great game.

MissingSinkovich,

Dobre, djakujem. Have Wallabies ever beaten AB on a wet track? You bet mate! Pretty sure one of the sweetest ever victories in the 03 RWC semi when Mortlock took THAT pass from Los was on a wet ground.

Re:2009 3N Opener - AB v Wallabies in NZ Reply to this message
Yeah me too Chop. Must say I wouldn't mind seeing a few of those Storm lads turning out for the new Melbourne S15 side in a couple of years. Cooper Cronk one of the few storm players who we haven't seen in a maroon jersey at SOO level was actually a Oz Union Schoolboy rep. Carmichael Hunt and Craig Wing were a junior union rep players too.

Maybe we can even lure the likes of Gaz and Craig Gower down here when the time comes.

In the meantime, here's hoping the Wallas take a few of those angry pills Bellamy handed out to his lads last night.

If we turn up with even half the intensity it will be a rip roarer on satudray.

Hi Ado,

I can finally hold my head up high after NSW won last night, I'm nut a big fan of Brett Kimmorley but he had a huge game last night and maybe deserves a test spot.

BTW I think our biggest reason to expect improvement is because McCaw is a real leader and his Captaincy (aside from breakdown skills)will make a real difference to the team.

Re:2009 3N Opener - AB v Wallabies in NZ Reply to this message
Not a big fan of Donald, don't think his penalty kicking under pressure is not good enough and he does not take control at least in the All Black jersy. He does deserve another chance however, in the first game against France he had zero front foot ball as the forwards were woeful, conditions did not help in the second match but the forwards at least went forward.

Looks like at wet track again which will mean the right tactics will have to be applied, expect a lot of territorial kicking from both sides so safe hands are required. The breakdown battle will be interesting and will probably determine the outcome. We are fortunate to have McCaw and So'oalo back even a game or two short of match fitness.

Sivi is a notoriously slow starter but can break a game open at anytime as he did last year and during the super 14. Not sure about the Jane selection, it is more to do with kick return than attack, would prefer to see a winger there instead. Smith and Nonu are a very good combination, defensively Smith is sound and goes looking for work. Nonu has the Xfactor but the minute he drops his head and starts sulking I would pull him from the field and put McAlister at 12.

I actually think the line out options are pretty good with Thorn, Ross primarily but Kaino, So'oalo and McCaw can all take good ball and offer different options.

AllBlacks to win but I do think Oz are in with a good shot at this one and a lot will come down fitness and desire. Who wants it more! Both teams have real reasons to get up for this game, it will be a tense afair.

Gale: Kako ste?

My parents were Kiwi born from Croatian/Yugoslav background (don't get into this). My wife is Chinese and we will move back to Australia soon (to Melbourne, thanks to a successful job application) and our future children will be future Wallabies.

Now I am concerned about the weather in Auckland. Eleven of the last fourteen days have had rain in them. Looking at the forecast, it reads (NZ Herald)...today, few showers; tomorrow, rain, easing to a few showers in the pm; Friday, showers with fine breaks; Saturday, further showers, strengthening southwesterlies. Boze moj!!! What krap weather! What is more important is what will the ground condition be like?

Now, let it be known, I have never seen the Wallabies play good wet weather rugby. I can't recall them ever beating the ABs in heavy ground. I could be wrong, but someone would have to point it out to me. And I know we have been thumped before on heavy ground by the ABs. I was really confident we would win the 2003 World Cup against the poms, but when the rain tumbled down during the day, continuing into the evening, I knew we were gonnas.

However, I believe we will be competitive this Saturday. I think Gits and Berrick will pin the sidelines with some accurate kicking. Lets hope the forwards can slog it out for the 80 minutes. It will be close. Prediction later.

Hey Kip,

Thanks for the advice but I think I will pass. My son still watches rugby with me and supports Waikato and the ABs. My daughters could not care less. However, there is now my grandson - and he will be an ABs supporter. (Although his father is Mexican and crazy about soccor).

Blessings

Mel

Re:2009 3N Opener - AB v Wallabies in NZ Reply to this message
Have an uneasy feeling about this game. McCaw and Soioalo will be lacking a lot of match fitness. We have no decent lineout option. A lot of players coming back from injury and a few struggling for form. We are scr-aping the bottom of the barrel when someone like Jane makes the starting line-up.

Hore, McCaw, Soioalo and Sivivatu could all struggle to see out a full 80. Haven’t been convinced in Donal this season but he is the best option we have at 10. I feel Giteau might show him up. We have looked anything but good in any of our games this year struggling to score. Only positive is the defence has been pretty solid but you need to score as well as defend to win games. Might come down to who has the better boot and Donald has been less than inspiring in his AB appearances in this regard.
