Re:Eye Gouging Reply to this message
When Drewc-o-c-k was in NZ last with the ENG team and they were playing the Wellington side, I was in Wellington and know a number of the players. I asked them to do me a personal favour. If they found our good friend Drewc-o-c-k on the bottom of a ruck, make sure he knows that he has been there and that rucking is still a good part of the game. Unfortunitely, that did not happen. Oh well.....

Re:Eye Gouging Reply to this message
Yeah he did not mind using his fists but he was a good player as well. Not that that justifies the filth. It has been pointed out that Sheridan on the Lions tour has got a way with a number of sneaky punches. Not smart against the BOKS. Smit said this week that the BOKS would have acted different than the Lions under the same circumstances. They would not have whined about it. I had to laugh. Never a truer word spoken. Commit a foul act against the ENG/Lions and they will whine until the cows come home. However, when they do the same to their SH counterparts, you don't hear to much about it.
They need to learn to leave it on the field and let the powers that be take care of acts of indiscretion.

Blessings

Re:Eye Gouging Reply to this message
Mex,

How about his little mate Lewsey? Similar, martial arts expert with a temper and tendency to try to hurt people. Can't say I ever saw him gouge anyone - not sure that was his bag, but he sure tried to hurt people by punching, stiff-arming, head-highing, spear-tackling and anything els ehe could get away with.

but hey, in the end, it is a tough sport.

Re:Eye Gouging Reply to this message
In recent years, the dirtiest player that I have seen was Danny Grewc_o_c_k . He was a martial arts expert and did not mind using his fist, fingers or feet in off the ball play. He also was a bad tempered son of .....

Re:Eye Gouging Reply to this message
There was an article in a NZ paper this week listing the 10 most dirtiest players from each country. Loe was listed as no 3. Obviously the list was subjective, but I don't think Loe was as bad as some have made him out to be. Over the years there have been plenty of dirty players that have not recieved the same condemnation as Loe. That is not a vote of confidence for Richard Loe, just an observation that there have been plenty who could warrant the title, "most dirtiest player every."

Re:Eye Gouging Reply to this message
"Unintentional contact' WTF? He should have been instantly marched and IMO he is very very lucky to get just 8 weeks. He has a history of dirty play, not the least of which is his over use of the squirrel grip. He not a bad as Loe, but then who is?

Schalk Burger comments at his disciplinary hearing probably fairly represented his career. Normally he is not a dirty player but a hard and uncompromising player. He went on to apologise to his fans and to his team. It would have also done him well to apologise to the Lions and to his victim. The committee stated that it was reckless but unintentional contact. For that reason he was only banned for 8 weeks. I for one believe that to be fair and acurate but think he should offer some kind of an apology to his victim. With the rash of eye gouging lately you would think that the players would be a little more careful. When Richard Loe eye gouged a player he received a 26 week ban.

Blessings
