Lote's dropped his court action and settled.
I guess we'll never know for sure, but given that part of the deal is that the facts never see the light of day, it looks pretty bad for Lote. Perhaps O'Neil pulled the right rein!

| Interesting, I have head it was actually J O'Neills wife. Makes sense as well because this is embarrassing for both parties..... If a 16 year old Rugby can stand by their decision, if John's wife, well of course people are afraid to talk, they'll nbe the next in line to get the chop! |

Froggy....when Panther said it first time i really did not wanna believe it,it was too damn idiotic on Lote's part...
but last week i heard it again from a guy that works for channel 9,apparently they do a story about it that will air in the next few weeks....it was a pretty big coincidence to hear it from 2 sources...same story...but i still did not wanna believe the guy is so dumb
and today i heard it again, from somebody that is not a player, but works for the Waratahs...same story, the only difference being the age of the girl...17 and 16...
if is to believe the guy from channel 9,Lote payed for the expenses that the young lady required not with his personal credit card, but with a business card given to players to use for expenses related to travel when they are on tour...and that made the s.h.i.t hit the fan....but i repeat...if is to believe the guy...i guess i will see how reliable he is when and if the story airs on 9...
the guy from the Waratahs was very cryptic, kinda like Panther was when sharing the rumor on this forum, just told me what Panther said...16 year old in his hotel room...the idiot stuffed it up...now he has to pay the price...
i heard the same thing now 3 times from 3 independent sources...i think is now too much to be a coincidence... |

I really hope that's not true. Was at Lillyfield Markets early this year with my son and his family, Lote was there with his wife & little kids, looked just a typical happy young family.
What goes through these guys heads???
Very sad.

Lote came to Rugby from League and did bring new support and some excitement to both the Tahs and to the Wallabies. How he lost his contract with the ARU and with the Tahs is a question yet to be clearly answered fully and I refuse to be part of the rumour and innuendo brigade a few of us in this forum have joined.
Let the man have his day in court and let both parties tell their side of the story.
I, for one, feel for Lote and his family - especially so for his family as they will be really hurting together.
Goodluck to Lote and his wife and family.
The ARU and the Tahs have their reasons and let us hear them all out before forming any opinion. |

I agree Gale. However, he was not sacked because of this one incident but a pattern of behaviour that was deemed unacceptable. There was a code of conduct clause in his contract and he broke it on a number of occasions - not just this one. Now let's see, 1. You are not playing well and can't make the top team 2. You are the highest paid player to boot 3. You have a code of conduct clause in your contract and you keep breaking it. DUH YOUR FIRED.
This is not brain surgery. I heard a lot of criticism on this board about Loti over the years. However, now that he is fired a lot of the same people who previously critcised him want to jump on his band wagon. If you give your bosses reason to fire you and you are not performing to boot andddddd you are the highest paid player - what do you expect would happen.
Blessings

Killer,
I maintain it wont be a matter of whether or not Lote will be able to retain his contract - he's gone. And I don't believe he'll have sufficient grounds to save it.
He is doing exactly what anyone in his position would do: take it to the High Court and make it VERY public. He's out to secure as much of his remaining contract dollars as poss. |

Gale,
I don't think it is as simple as that even if the majority believe it to be. Right or wrong will come into it and if he is within his rights legally then he has a case.
I can understand why nobody has come out officialy with the story should it be true because it is a sensitive issue and there will be some brutal examination of all parties during the court process including the 16 year old. This will be the biggest tragedy because she has everything to lose and nothing to gain.
The other thing to consider is has this ever happened before within the ARU community and was the player/employee sacked because of it. This would set a precident and would be argued for Lote's case.
Given all the usual craap that goes on with high profile and not so players I would be surprised if it hasn't no matter what he has done. |

If the story is true, I would think ARU has grounds for sacking as his behaviour is bringing the code I to disrepute. It's not about illegalities, it's about how he conducts himself off the field.
Ask yourself, as an ambassador of the ARU, is it acceptable to be cheating on your wife and sleeping with a 16 year old? Don't ask if it's right or wrong, ask if it's acceptable.
There's a great reAson to sack him. |

The lack of any reliable information on this matter means there's really very little to say until we know more, which could be months.
As you say killer, looks very messy. I hope the ARU are getting good advice!

http://news.rugbyheaven.com.au/breaking-news-sport /tuqiri-sues-aru-in-nsw-supreme-court-20090708-dcv b.html
Part of latest article. This is going to get messy for both parties.
Lawyers for sacked Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri have commenced legal action in the NSW Supreme Court against the Australian Rugby Union for breach of contract.
The action came on the very day the Rugby Union Player's Association (RUPA) said some Wallabies were feeling fearful and intimidated in the wake of Tuqiri's sacking.
The RUPA on Wednesday announced they were launching an investigation - headed by an unnamed "high-profile" retired judge - into the reasons why the dual international had his contract worth up to $1 million a year ripped up by the Australian Rugby Union (ARU).
On the same day, Tuqiri's manager Les Ross released a statement confirming the superstar's lawyer Mark O'Brien had commenced proceedings in the NSW Supreme Court against the ARU for breach of contract.
The statement said due to the court proceedings, Tuqiri could have no involvement in the inquiry announced by the RUPA into his termination.
"As the matter is now before the courts there will be no further comment," the statement said. |

Yes, it becomes a moral issue which is very different to a legal issue and can be a very grey area.
Of course this could be miles away from the truth so we will just have to wait and see. |

your right killer.
IMO if that is the story it's not grounds for sacking.although his missus would be p!ssed
Lote must feel he can mount a case against his sacking or he wouldn't be taking legal action. |

The age of consentual heterosexual in Australia is 16 years apart from South Australia and Tasmania which is 17 years.
Where was this supposed to have happened? Interesting the age differance between states.
Not condoning by any means but it is not a legal issue if he was in the right place at the right time so to speak even if he is married. |

Thanks for that Panth, and lets just hope it just a rumour as you say. That would make things veeeeerry interesting. In which case (if true, of course), I would swing back to the ARU side of things. But lets just hear the truth though!! Remember the police were not involved here. But I'm waiting for more.... |

It's sad to see him go the way he has, but I will personally miss him only at the Tahs. Not at the Wallabies. Even at S14 level Lote has been covered in D for years... nowhere near as many linebreaks and metres gained as some of the other more dangerous wingers in World rugby. Deans had done the right thing by dropping him this year, would much rather see Turner/Hynes/Mitchell/Ioa ne in the wings than Lote.
Poor guy though, way to go out, huh? |
