And there were others

It had no bearing on the game but it was beyond laughable given the importance of his role.

Ref's war on sanity Reply to this message
Did a member of The Chaser TV team sneak his way into the video referee's box in Durban last Saturday during the Springboks v British and Irish Lions Test and commandeer the microphone to cause mayhem? That is the only logical reason for this baffling conversation between referee Bryce Lawrence and a misguided video ref over whether a Lions' try should be awarded, and if not, where play should recommence.

Lawrence: "Can you look at the grounding, and whether it's a try or no try?"

Video referee: "Bryce, I have a decision. The ball was not. Touch in goal. Scrum five Red."

L: "Touch in goal here?"

VR: "The ball doesn't touch in goal."

L: "Sorry?"

VR: "The ball doesn't touch in goal."

L: "OK. But it was carried in by Red?"

VR: "Yes. Scrum five Red."

L: "Why scrum five Red, though?"

VR: "Because the green player played the ball after, and going (garbled) . . . It's a scrum five Red."

L: "Why, though? You need to tell me why scrum five?"

VR: "Because the green player played the ball and errrr."

L: "In the field of play, or in-goal?"

VR: "It was in-goal."

L: "OK, it's a 22 then."

Lawrence then ran to the quarter line for the restart. What's doing?
