Yeah Rids,,, who???
Anyone who can score 43 test tries by the age of 26 can run on for my team any day. If not for that assist in the 26th min, the AB's would not have faired well. With a bit more game time, I'm sure Roks' speedious ways will return in time,, providing he stay injury free this time.
Individually, this green machine has alot of outstanding players,,, however their execution is very poor as a result of cavalier forward play and kraptastic playmaking.
This is a good period for the fill ins to get some test level experience. They've fared well considering this is the beginning of the AB's season in contrast with the French post season. Who knows if this team will get it together in time!
Great sh!t list by the way... |

riddler, usually I appreciate the knowledge in your postings, this is not one of those times bro. It's okay to say "he's hopeless, he's hopeless", but who are the alternatives? Lauaki?? You can't be serious LOL I know of seals that can catch a rugby ball better than him......and more consistently.
So what are your alternatives? I would really like for you to name a starting team. |

Killerwhale, Mealamu was ordinary at best. To have clearly the best front row player in NZ this season sitting on the bench for the full 80 minutes is a disgrace. De Malmanche should have come on at half time. Getting sick of Henry and his pro Auckland selections. Kaino and Rokocoko should never have been in that side. Mealamu should have started from the bench and Malmanche given a start.
Time for the sh!!t list
Rokocoko is no longer All Black quality. He has struggled for close to 2 years now. You cant pick players on past reputation. You get burnt that way. Jane and Wulf are hopeless. Waste of time perserving with either of them. Toeava is a hack. Donald is a poor replacement for Carter. Kaino is useless. Lauaki should have got a run well before Kaino. Only reason he got a run instead is because he plays for Auckland. McAlister needs time in the NPC to get up to speed because he is out of form. |

"I cant believe you guys reckon Mealamu played well. Delusional. de Malmanche hardly got a run! RIDICULOUS!":
This is either a windup or this bloke is as delusional as his statement. I will go for wind up because you would have to be blind not to see Mealamu played well ( I am not a big fan of his but he played very well). Either that or he did not watch the game at all. |

Gale,
Another point, for most sides the drop goal is always a lottery. You have more of a chance with a penalty because you have the time to make the kick. With drop goals the percentage is a lot lower. It is low percentage football in order to win the game. Don't get me wrong, they can be game winners and if the ABs win from a drop goal, I would celebrate the drop goal. However, they are low percentage point makers. Case and point is the French - how many and attempts and how many points did they make from drop goals? I do not give and attempted drop goal the same significance as a penalty kick.
Blessings

Hey Gale,
I am happy that it was a win. At the end of the day a win is a win. Last week there were plenty of people celebrating the French win. I am celebrating the AB win. Did they play to their potential and look brilliant. NO. However, it was a win and a good starting spot for the next test. One of the weeknesses of the AB s in recent times is the no 7 spot. When McCaw is injured, we have had someone to step up. Latimer could be the one - so I am pleased with him. Of course he plays for Waikato - a mooloo man. My point can still be made - ABs are having a slow start to the season and are blooding a number of new players due to injuries and overseas contracts. That is not an excuse, just a reality. They need to rise above that and play better and they will.
Blessings

Yeah,,, Nick Evans went to the boneyard (Kipland that is), plays for the Harlequins now. There aren't too many test 1st 5s in NZ at present. But I foresee some great prospects.
Gale, You're as critical as a kiwi these days. As for Kev,,, he knows how to hustle. Had a good game,,, but I've seen him play better.
Hate to say it,,, but the Blacks won't win any titles this year with the 2nd XV. A good development for the future though!!! |

Ha ha ha!!! Jimmy Gopperth? Ha! JOKE!
Mex,
If you are happy with that performance, good for you. AB shoulda won by over 20. The amount of possession, ball retention, breaks, turnovers, line out steals blah blah blah.
This is an AB side that doesn't know how to finish. It took a good cross field effort from Smokin Joe to send Nonu in for the only try.
On stats, france left more missed points on the paddock in terms of missed DG/Penalty attempts and a few bombed tries.
I cant believe you guys reckon Mealamu played well. Delusional. de Malmanche hardly got a run! RIDICULOUS!
Latimer (Im a fan) was excellent. |

| Shoulda coulda woulda, missed penalties and pot shots at goals have no effect, on that theory the All Blacks should have had a 16 nil lead at half time. Great game from Mealamu and Thorn. Much improved breakdown and mauling, Latimer stole some sweet ball. The scrum got munched at times but finished well pushing the French right off the ball at the end. Plenty of work to do there.Great first half mediocre second but they did enough in the first to win. They had plenty of opportunities to score but lack of patience and extreme conditions put an end to that. The funniest part was demalmanche running on only to run straight off.Great try from the french winger, probably the best I have seen this year in internationals, turned them inside out. Jane made a poor decision in defence which gave him the start he needed and his pace and step did the rest. All Blacks still off the pace but a game against Italian which hardly constitutes a test match unless they are at home should help combinations. |

| It was a test match that we never going to have a high score because of the conditions. A shame really as I wanted to see a running game of rugby. |

Gale,
Didn't Donald miss the first three penalties in a row. As the French said afterwards, "the ABs played better than us tonight." That must be hard for a number of you to admit but it is true. It was not a convincing win but the better team won on the day. Kind of like last week huh? I overstated my cases when I said he had the winningest AB record of all time. However, he has coached a lot more games than his next best competitor and still has a 87% winning record. I do not think he is the messiah but I do think he is one of the world's best rugby coaches. Again, by his record, why people can't admit that is beyond me. If he wins the next WC, that will seal the argument and until then he will rack up and impressive number of victories.
Latimer played well tonight and has answered some questions for the flanker options.
Blessings

I was just about going insane watching that game tonight
FRUSTRATING!!!!!
Hey gale, I am happy with the talent that GH has brought through over the past 5 years, (not so much the last 2 years), as previously stated he has had a few limitations in the last 2 seasons on just how many new players could be blooded due to defections, retirements, and injury. IMO has just stuck with the wider training group who were already in the AB system, which was probably the "safe" option. |

Dirty,
Seeing as Kip is the only sane one left, I suppose that make's me insane.
If you reckon GH has brought thru a lot of good talent in the last 2 years, then I'm happy to be the insane one bro.
All Blanks lucky to win tonight. Frogs missed 4 penalty shots and 3 DGs.
A with's a win, but I'm far from convinced.
Well done at not losing 2 tho. |

ado and gale, I just don't know where you 2 are coming from.
Hasn't blooded enough young players? Are you insane?
In 2007 we virtually had 2 full AB teams. If I remember rightly 1 played Argentina one week, and the other played Ireland the next. Do you KNOW how much criticism GH came under for that? Apparently he was "giving the black jersey away"!!!
Now, after the RWC (I am not sure if you noticed) we lost a "few" players to NH teams, a lot of these guys were still first choice players. We lost roughly 10 players from the RWC AB squad, and as said "mostly" these guys were first choice. Then last year we lost about another 5 players from the run on AB side, and yet NZ still managed to retain the Bledisloe, retain the TRI, and win a Grand Slam.
This year we have had so many injuries during the S14( and DC) that the bulk of the team is made up of the second stringers from the 2008 season. Now due to so many injuries GH obviously didn't feel he had the luxury to pick "on form" in many cases as to do this he would lose valuable "test experience", he weighed one up over the other and came up with the selections he has, and IMO (bar a couple of selections, which there always are) he has done as well as he could given the players available.
You guys keep on going on about his selections, but as yet I have heard neither of you come up with viable alternatives. Unless you can do this and justify the reasoning behind it, then your opinions about GH and the AB's really means very little. |

I'm with Aimee. He took the Lions to defeat down under and failed at the World Cup. And you K1's think he is the coaching messiah?
He selected badly last week and failed to address the rule changes. He improved his options this week, but only marginally.
I hope the players have had a good hard look in the mirror too. I'd just hate to see NZ lose 2 in a row! LOL. |

But what are statistics and do they hide a reality?
Sir Clive Woodward's record is good but in reality he built a World Cup winning team from pretty dire beginnings.
Won 59
Lost 22
Draw 2
71% win rate
"He has said that his success in winning the rugby World Cup was in part down to his willingness to "question everything, change anything and leave no stone unturned".
A favourite maxim of his is that, rather by improving teams by 100%, he improves "100 things by 1%".
He was the man who fast-tracked Jonny Wilkinson into the England side at an age when most coaches would have deemed him too inexperienced, and also put together a huge and meticulously-selected backroom staff, from scrummaging and kicking coaches to a visual awareness expert and kit technician."

Riddles,
<<main problem for the AB's at the moment is injuries.>> LOL! Never heard you accept that as an excuse for a Wallabies side mate? All Blanks seeming to be drawing... well... blanks, when it comes to new talent.
<< Ironically over in NZ nobody really got too upset by the result. Many expected a loss.>> Where exactly in NZ are you living bro? |

kiwimexican wrote : It is hard to argue with the winningest record of any international coach ever.
not quite true. and these are only AB's coaches.

Len Clode 1951 3 3 0 0 100%
Richard Everest 1957 2 2 0 0 100%
Ron Bush 1962 2 2 0 0 100%
Fred Allen 1966–1968 14 14 0 0 100%
Alex Wyllie 1988–1991 29 25 1 3 86.2%
then
Graham Henry 2004– 64 55 0 9 85.9%
John Mitchell 2002–2003 28 23 1 4 82.1%
henry is one of the best, no doubt. but he cant have long left in him as coach - he has been around for what feels like forever. we should have never let robbie deans go, in my opinion he is the best coach in world rugby. and its bad for us but i think over the next decade he is going to prove that. |
