The French team believe they can get something out of this tour , the players are showing a lot of confidence and lievremontr needs to make amend for a poor 6N ,for him at least one vicotry is imperative otherwise this could be it ...
Personnaly i don't believe in a Weaker AB side, for us the AB are still the AB no matter who is playing you guys are the best and at home , it would be a great result and a huge confidence boost for France

Ridds,I actually think Thorn and Ross are really good locks.Ali Williams has been p!ss weak all S14,your lucky Ross has been such a standout and is ready to fill the breach.
Blacks will will this week-end for sure, lots of new combinations as Zedds said but they will do over a weakened French team IMO.
They probably need to start well to have confidence though

There is no doubt that this is a very green team should be interesting. Combinations will be sloppy and there will be more than a few nerves. I am still confident they will win this week.

Masaga got the call up. Another with questionable defence.
On the other hand he is an attacking handful.

emok, what is the feeling in the French camp? Are you guys going into the game with confidence, or is it not really important because it is not quite your top side until the week after?

Quite a few people in NZ share your views here riddles. I guess the good news is that your favourite winger Wulf is out injured and Masaga, Ranger or Gear should get the call up they should have had earlier.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
This is the weakest All Black team I have seen in a very long time. Wulf is a hack. Rokocoko is out of form. I don’t rate Toeava. Thomson and Messam are nowhere near the class of McCaw and Soialo. Thorn and Ross? Is that the best we can do for locks.

I would say no fewer than 8 of the players are there purely because of injuries to others. Some of them wouldn’t even make a B squad for me. Having that many blues players in the backline is a worry because they cant defend for shyte. A full strength French side could take this team down and cause all sort of havoc in the backline.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
Some of the comments in the NZ media are a little harsh. Like "weakest all blacks team ever named in the professional era"
Ruthless.
Actually think that 11-15 is very potent. Mind you this side is weaker then the one that (can I say it) LOST to the froggies in 2007.
aarrrh my therapist will be so happy with me.
Stage 2 begins

Go ALL BLACKS!!!!!

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
First cap for Scrum half Dupuy and against the AB !! let's hope the occasion does not get to him too much ,
Note that Jauzion is on the bench for the first time with Lievremont , with Traille and bastareaud at center this could get quite physical !!
Chabal will most probably come on during the 2nd half
I'm hopeful for a good performance , and who knows maybe a victory ...

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
Gale I said 'weak' in context. If you put this AB's side up against an AB's side with Soialo, Carter, McGaw, Sivivatu, Williams and Smith it is a weaker side by comparison. Which was my point. Like I said its a side that will get over the frogs, but they will find it much harder against us and the jarpies without at least some of their world class players back.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
Ado,
Even as a die-hard Aussie, I find it hard to use the term 'weak' in the same sentence as 'All Blacks'. Perhaps the side a 'not as strong' as it could be, but I would hardly call it weak.
In fact, I'm surprised they are running as much new talent. Don't think that bodes well for us in 3N.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
It is certainly a green team but individually there is some real talent, it will depend on how they gell.
The Thorn/Ross combo should go well with there track record, first test gitters might be an issue for Ross but he certainly has the skills.
The lose forwards have the biggest question marks, all out of position accept Read. Thompson is a great pilferer with a great work rate but is no where near the level of McCaw and Smith.
I am still not sure about Donald, he went well with the Chiefs but in S14 final I think the occasion affected his game, you could see how wound up he was during the huddle whereas Carter and Gits always show a calm exterior in big matches. This is his opportunity to prove he has the goods for the Black jersy, apart from the fact there is nobody else at least no one is looking over his shoulder which may be good or bad.
It will be a tough year but then again so was last year, most people wrote us off after the loss to SA and Oz.
One thing is for sure they will be hard to beat so if the French do (and I don't think they will) they would have earnt it.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
It'll probably be good enough to get them home against the frogs but it looks very weak compared to the AB's side you'd roll out if everyone was fit. There's no way NZ would want to be heading into the Tri's playing two number 6's and the only true open side sitting on the bench. Forwards look solid, but against a pack with decent height they'll struggle at line out time. A few new combo's to get right in the backs may leave a few holes in defence too.

Put Ritchie, Carter, Sivi, Williams, Smith and co back in the team and you've got a deadly side. This one I'm not so sure about.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
McAlister is back in the squad as a replacement for Kahui and the loss of Smith.

After three and a half months out of the game and then a run against the Babaas he would consider himself lucky to be there. He went pretty well considering they had next to zero front foot ball and was facing an experienced three in Gits, Barnes and Morts whom had very good service from the forwards.
A couple of his trademark line breaks looked good. 12 is his best position IMO but played mostly 13 at Sale and with Nonu being the most devestating twelve this year he may get a run at 13 at some stage. Word is Toeava will start there this weekend.

Good move as we have had some injury issues and he is only 26 so plenty left in the tank.

Zedds, it is a real test of depth for the AB's, especially when you are already without Carter & McCaw, arguably the two best rugby players in the world!

As to the French, as we all know (and you guys only too well from past World Cups) it all depends which French team turns up!

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
They regather in Dunedin on Sunday in the countdown to next week's season opening test against France at Carisbrook with Kahui gone and fellow centre Conrad Smith (hamstring), lock Ali Williams (Achilles), halfback Brendon Leonard (hamstring) and loose forward Jerome Kaino (knee) all out of consideration for selection.

They also have senior prop Tony Wood *** still bothered by the inner ear infection and related dizziness that plagued his Super 14 campaign with the Blues.

Will be a very new All Blacks team against France, might even make it interesting.

Kahui out for season with injury to shoulder requiring surgery.

We had a thread going on all of this, don't know what happened to it.
