Agree with riddler.
Also why compare Elsom to So'oialo? Rocky is a blindside flanker and Rodney is a Number 8. |

ROTFLMAO at you UnderTheposts
<<Carter V Giteau. Nothing clear about this at all. Personally I would have Giteau in my team, but that's me.>>
Personally I think you are clueless but hey, thats whats I think. Carter is a better kick, more prolific try scorer and better tackler than Giteau. There is not a thing Giteau does that Carter does not do better. If Giteau achieves half of what Carter has already in his career I will be amazed.
<<<Conrad Smith V Mortlock. Doesn't Sterlo use Smith as a turnstile?? "Nuff said.>>>
Mortlock is best in the world at his position. I will give you that. Never been much of a Smith fan myself anyway.
<<<McCaw V George Smith. They are both superb scavengers. Last occasion, George buried McCaw in the Wembley turf last December.>>>
McCaw has it all over Smith in bucketloads. Rather than pointing out a barbarians game, why dont you highlight Smith and his track record against McCaw when he is playing for the AB's. McCaw wins hands down. If Smith achieves half of what Richie has in his career I will be amazed here.
<<<So'oialo V Elsom.....I rest my case.>>>
You rest your case? You didnt even make a case. Elsom is a star against teams like Italy and Japan but at the highest level he has been found out more often than not. So'oialo is far more consistent against the best teams. |

Just back from NZ. Went over for a week so havent had time to check the message board until today. Have to laugh at this
<<<Typical over reaction from Riddles.
Toeava finished season strongly. Old heads like Smokin needed to balance new blood.
I think it is dangerous for the rest of us that AB are blooding new talent now.>>>
Over-reaction? The AB’s where humiliated. They were smashed in many aspects of the game. Once again Gale you end up with egg on your face. I can read and analyse the game a hell of a lot better than you. Toeava is not AB class. Rokocoko is so badly out of form it is not funny. Both are just biding time until injured players return. The AB backline was a joke both offensively and defensively against the French. The forwards were man handled as well. Of the new talent being blooded Gale I doubt any will be good enough to secure a full time spot. |

I think that the ABs will come back with a vengeance. It would not surprise me that the score was a blowout against the French. The ABs pride is wounded by a team that just seems to be our nemesis. As with the last WC when the French beat the ABs, in the next game the French received a drumming. That is what I am hoping for anyway.
Gale, you don't seem to think too much of GH. IMO if a team has a good coach they achieve good results. Needless to say if a team has great results they have a great coach. The Wallaby's are a good example of that. Robbie Dean comes on board and all of a sudden the Wallaby's start winning away from home. The difference maker for them was the coach. That being said, you have to give GH some credit here.
Blessings

Sorry, but I understood ""..who are clearly four of the best players in the world" to mean - "easily the best players in the world", or even "without doubt the best players in the world". That was my interpretation of what Vismyr wrote. But I guess there is another context there, if one looks deeper into it. *sigh* The syntax of the english language confuses yet again.
Sorry again, but I don't have a problem recognising Carter, McCaw, So'oialo and Smith as being up there among the best in the world. They are great players. If you asked me two years ago, I would rate these AllBlack four ahead of any of their opponents. These days, however, things are a bit different. Other players have matured.
Back to Saturday's game, I think the French tight forwards have an edge. Their set play in the first test was good and they have added Chabal to start, as well as Nicholas Mas in at tighthead. I think The AB lineout is good and a lot hinges on the no.7 this week. But I'm not going to make a prediction...... |

That said, I wouldve thought Elsom, Vickerman & Palu are 3 of the world's best too. And Ioane would be the best performed centre in S14 in 09.
The point is not 'who's better, it's who can manage best without their key 'world-class' players.
Even you die hard K1s will agree that Wallas are doing that better than AB at the moment. |

Under the posts,
I'm an Aussie, but if you don't realize that DC, McCaw, Smith & So'oialo are '4 of the best players in the world' then you've got a problem. |

undertheposts,
by "clearly", I meant not viewing everything through one big marsupial eye LOL. But I agree...it's a good French team, so we'll see what happens this weekend.
and Ado, you're last sentence essentially sums up my point. Well done:-) |

Hey Gale,
" A little kid at lunch time?" A bit rough. Bizarre has a right to celebrate in victory and all power to him. I think all kiwis on this thread have given the French that and have agreed they deserved the win. However, it does get a bit old when all kiwi supporters are told how bad they are at loosing when a good measure of grace has been demonstrated. That was what Bizarre was saying. I don't think that is a little kid complaining...... just defending what I thought to be a good attitude shown by the kiwis on this thread.
As for this weekend, I am glad Conrad Smith is back and they have changed up the loosies. I wished they put Afoa and DeMelmanche in as starters as well.
Blessings

Sorry, Vismyr, I cannot agree with everything you say. Carter, Smith, McCaw and So'oiaolo CLEARLY four of the best players in the world? CLEARLY HUH? What complete BS!!
Carter V Giteau. Nothing clear about this at all. Personally I would have Giteau in my team, but that's me.
Conrad Smith V Mortlock. Doesn't Sterlo use Smith as a turnstile?? "Nuff said.
McCaw V George Smith. They are both superb scavengers. Last occasion, George buried McCaw in the Wembley turf last December.
So'oialo V Elsom.....I rest my case.
CLEARLY......NOT!!
No-one was crowing about anything last year. That's just Kiwi talk for dorks who read newspapers and believe in the journalists opinions (see Chris Rattue, Duncan Johnstone, Richard Loe, et Kiwi al...) I, for one, always had reservations about the Wallabies capturing the TriN trophy and Bledisloe last year. I would have been happy to see an improvement on Connolly's rubbish appointment (remember, knockers, I am a Queenslander). Deans had a very good first year and I expect him to make inroads this year, to peak at World Cup time. I am hoping more wins than losses in the TriN/Bled period. And, frankly, I think he has a darn good chance of doing it.
Yes, they were beaten by the tenacity, speed and desire by the Boks in SA last year. But they did also beat them the week before. Call it "taking the foot off the accelerator", but they didn't perform in the second week. It wasn't about depth. I agree with you there. But, I also think the ABs depth is not quite the same at the moment. This weekend, I don't know who will win, but while the ABs have better players, picked in their right positions............ so have the French!!! |

The French team is looking very strong. With confidence riding high and a very solid pack they will be hard to beat.
The All Blacks are low on confidence and are experimenting with positions in the back row again. Read is out of his depth at 8 and will be under the pump. Three new players against a very competant French back three especially Dusautoir who had a blinder and far exceeds them in experience.
Thorn and Ross held there own and our lineouts went well but the scrum needs work.
They will all need to hit the ground running to win this, they are capable but they do look fragile. The French will give it everything as they know they have nothing to loose now.
To be honest I feel another loss on the way but am hopeful the AB's can muscle up at the breakdown and defend better than last week. Should they do that the attack should take care of its self.
Still worried about Donald, if he doesn't get the front foot ball he doesn't have the nouse "YET" to make good out of bad at this level. Also I think the Captain should be up in the front somewhere but we do not have anyone with that level of experience.
Anyway thats the last I can say except good luck to all, I will not be commenting anymore we are packing up and moving on tomorrow so internet is out for the next few months. I wont get to see these games and probably wont get to see the Trinations. no I am not going to jail but will be at sea.
It will be a rocky year for the All Blacks but I will support them through thick and thin, good luck to the Wallabies and South Africans and may the best team win.
Oh and good luck Kip ! |

Vsmyr, I would suggest that the Aussies who are out are equally important to their sides as their injured K1 counterparts. Gales point totally stands and to be honest its one I haven't even considered. Elsom, Ione, Gerrard, McMenniman, Palu, Hynes... that;s a lot of test match horsepower.
The Aussies certainly have a lot more depth at the moment than the K1's. It will simply be a matter of who is better on the day, because you can have all the depth in the world, but you can only put fifteen on the field. |

| Zedds ,i agree , it is really the best team we have to offer and i think it can match up to the AB team lined up for saturday but it's gonna be really tough to beat you guys again we will have to defend even better than last week because i don't expect AB to make so many mistakes in their offensive phases This game is Huge for both teams |

Hey guys French line up for saturday
Médard - Clerc, Mermoz, Traille, Heymans - Trinh-Duc (o), Dupuy (m) - Ouedraogo, Picamoles, Dusautoir (cap.) - Millo-Chluski, Chabal - Mas, Servat, Barcella
Remplaçants: Szarzewski, Domingo, Martin, Chouly, Yachvili, Jauzion, Bastareaud
3 changes Mas ,Mermoz and Chabal , This is probably the best team possible to play the AB , i'm really looking forward to watch Mermoz at center He's been Perpignan 's best player who won the Top 14 against Clermont 2 weeks ago , a great talent , let's see how he rates against the mighty AB
In any case no pressure for les bleus , they 've won a test in NZ already , so in my experience a french team that plays without pressure can be fantastic to watch or absolutely dismal so let's see which one will show up on Saturday |

You can maintain all you like Gale (in this and just about every other thread), but it still doesn't make it true. There's a big difference between replacing players like Hynes, Palu, Elsom, Ioane, Gerrard, Vickerman, and having to fill the boots of Carter, Smith, McCaw and So'oialo, who are clearly four of the best players in the world . The All Blacks went through the same thing in 1998, when we lost Frank Bunce and the leadership of Fitzpatrick.
No, the All Blacks lost last weeks test because France saw an opportunity to play an All Black team without several super stars and got themselves up for it, wanted it more, and played superior Rugby for the first 30 mins. The All Blacks still could have pulled out the win, but didn't have the skill to do so. The coaches made some selection errors last week as well which contributed to this, and this week have been able to bring in a few other players who hopefully will be up for the job. That, my friend is depth.
But this is dejavu to me -- weren't you crowing about this last year after New Zealand had lost by two points to the Springboks and then to the Wallabies at ANZ Stadium? You had the wind in your sails and were running around like a kid who had too many sweets LOL. But what happened? The Blacks came back, retained the Bledisloe (again), and wrapped up the Tri-nations for the 9th time in the 13 years since the tournament started. They made several changes (Cowan for Ellis, Smith to Center with Kahui to the wing for Tuitavake) and got the combinations right, kept their composure and won going away. Just as they are doing this year...
Meanwhile the Wallabies were beaten by an embarrassing score at Ellis Park. And the reason? It wasn't about depth or any of that nonsense...it was because on that day Australia were unable to match the ferocity, speed and desire of the Springboks.
This weekend I expect the All Blacks to win by 10 points, but even if they don't its got nothing to do with "depth". |

Wallabies have had Hynes, Palu, Elsom, Ioane, Gerrard, Vickerman injured/unavailable but it hasn't - at this stage - had an impact. Stalwarts like Tuquiri & Waugh haven't had a gig yet.
Still maintain the depth is not there for NZ this year. Yet. |

Andrew Hore (hooker) -- rib cartilage. Next week against Italy, otherwise Tri-Nations.
Ali Williams (lock) -- Achilles. Next week against Italy, otherwise Tri-Nations.
Brendon Leonard (halfback) -- hamstring. Next week against Italy, otherwise Tri-Nations.
Richie McCaw (flanker) -- knee. Start of Tri-Nations.
Rodney So'oialo (No 8) -- Neck Start of Tri-Nations.
Sitiveni Sivivatu (wing) -- shoulder. Start of Tri-Nations.
Rudi Wulf (wing) -- shoulder. Middle of Tri-Nations.
Adam Thomson (flanker) -- hand. Middle of Tri-Nations.
Anthony Boric (lock) -- toe. Middle of Tri-Nations.
Daniel Carter (first five-eighth) -- achilles. Air NZ Cup then end-of-year tour.
Richard Kahui (centre) -- shoulder. Next year.
Our injury list is improving and with a bit of luck a lot of these guys will be ready for Trinations. The downside is that they will be a bit rusty but it will be great to get them back.

Good to see you firing up KOB!
Agree with Ado - a much more balanced side.
I've been a fan of Latimer since his Canterbury days. He's come along really well this year with Chiefs. He'll add a good dimension to the pack and the experience will be good for him.
Front row seems to be the problem for AB these days - Kevie's past it at this level. de Malmanche has a great opportunity to impress and should do.
Not sure about Kaino - he's unpredictable: a bit like Cliffy Palu.
It's a more rounded back row, but tight 5 still looks shaky to me. Hore is a loss in the front row and Woodie/Tialata need to pick up their workrate.
Good luck. |
