7. McCaw (Latimer)
8. So'oialo (Read)
9. Leonard
10. Donald (McCallister)
11. Sitivini
12. Nonu
13. Smith (Toeava)

17. Tialata ( *** et)
18. Reed (Whitelock)
19. Evans

21. McCallister
22. Toeava

McCaw made a huge differnece alone in last years Tri Nations, so the impact of this many top line players will see a marked improvement to the team.

Nice team dirty, I agree with your call on setaphano too - he makes the adv line 11 times outta 10. Hes the kinda player that would be first pick in eng/saf.

I miss ab trial matches, thats the perfect place to try the likes of Cruden, Dagg, Ranger, McGougan etc
Let them show the big boys up!

Trinations

1. Woodcook
2. Hore
3. Afoa
4. Thorn
5. Ross
6. Kaino
7. McCaw
8. So'oalo
9. Leonard
10. Donald (combination with Leonard proven, could help improve his sub standard performances otherwise it's pot luck)
11. Sivivatu
12. Nonu
13. Smith
14. Masaga
15. Muliaina

16. Mealamu 17. Tialata 18. Eaton 19. Read 20. Latimer 21. Weepu 22. Cory Jane/Rico Gear would be nice but Jane can cover both positions

Woodcok has had a bad run with injury, hardly played S14 should improve through Trinations.

Combos of

Leonard, Donald
Nonu, Smith
Sivi, Muliaina,Masaga
Thorn, Ross
McCaw, So'oalo, Kaino

gives the side a more balanced look than has been able for the Iveco series.

I chose Tialata as a sub only because he can play both sides of the scrum otherwise I wouldn't have. Not mobile enough. Big farker though.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
You got the job Dirty. Make your way to the Eden Park car park immediately and take the spot marked Henry. It's not exactly how I'd line them up, but gee isn't it a positive & exciting line up.

The only comment I'd make is that you can't have Ritchie on the bench. His presence and leadership on the park is invaluable. I also don't think that McCallister won't make a great 10, but if he gets a few more runs there during the NPC this year i think he will surprise everyone at how good he can be in that spot. At worst, he'll be able to cover both positions.

Good thinking Dirty. Hope someone hears you.

1. Woodcook
2. Hore
3. McGougan (He is an absolute mongrel of a man, just what we need)
4. Donnelly (yes I know Brad is the man, but at 34 it could be time to blood a younger man)
5. Ross
6. Kaino
7. Whitelock (learn from PDV's mistake of playing Burger)
8. Setephano ( I can't understand why he isn't there already)

9. Cowan
10. Aaron Cruden ( talent is talent, and he has an abundance, and best of all he ooozes with confidence, throw him in the deep end, it is working for OZ with James O'Connor)
11. Sivivatu
12. McAlister (having Mac at 12 would help the young fella at 10 out)
13. Nonu
14. Ranger
15. Dagg

16. De Malmanche 17. Newlands 18. Thorn 19. Vito 20. McCaw 21. Weepu 22. Muiliaina

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
Holy shyte ado, I just posted this on the NZ threads not 30 minutes ago.......I am amazed, great minds think alike bro, and obviously so do ours :-)

I could be wrong (I have been known to be on many occasions :-)), but IMO we are going to struggle in the TRI with either Donald or McAlister as 5/8. Neither one has the criteria that we need for an AB 5/8. McAlister is a 2nd 5/8 who hasn't played 5/8 in 2 seasons, Donald is a 5/8 who at S14 level is a good player, but at international level struggles. IMO the single biggest factor to their failures is "confidence". I think Donald will forever feel he is just a 'stop gap' until Carter is back, and McAlister is not really happy running the whole show, he likes a little more space and time to maneuver.

GH is copping a lot of criticism at the moment because the players we have available for selection are not doing the job and stepping up. Should we just "concede" the TRI this year? nah nah, not in our makeup, but i do think there needs to be some radical change in the player dept., not the coaches, GH proved what a genius he was last year so no matter what anyone says the problem does NOT lie with him and our assistants.

People will detest my opinion because they hate the idea of "giving the jersey away", but it is my opinion that plenty of players have worn black that have been undeserved. It ain't going to happen but what I would like to see is some of the younger talent we have identified as future AB's to be thrown into the cauldron now, with that in mind i would love to see this team start in the TRI.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
You K1's might call me nuts, but I reckon its time Henry drafted a couple of kids like Aaron Cruden and one or two more of those U20's into the squad.

You got too much old wood and not enough depth in key spots to wait much longer. It's exactly what Dwyer in 89 did with Horan, Little and Kearns and they turned out OK. Won a world cup or two along the way as well.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
Disappointing game. However the Wallabies didn't do much better against Italy.

They will have a few more of the big boys back in a couple weeks, 2. Hore (although Mealamu is probably No.1 now) 7. McCaw 8. So'oialo, 10, Donald, 11. Sitivini, 13. Smith.

The ABs will be a totally different team with these guys back and with Carter and Ali still around Im not overly concerned in the long term.

Tri Nations will be tough though. Expecting a great contest with the Boks Favourites and the ABs second although theres nothing between all really

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
Sounds like one rule for the AB and another rule for all other teams Gale. By the end of the season I think you will be made to eat your words about Henry. Let me say it again, if a coach has a great record and the team goes through a bad spell, it does not make him a bad coach all of a sudden. That would be more la la land....... to think that. I am not obstinately standing by the guy, I just think the criticism is overly harsh and feel that someone needs to be the voice of reason. It seems like the "tall popie (sp) syndrome" to me. When a person rises above others in his field, there are those who want to cut off his head... figuritively speaking.

Blessings

disappointed Rhino.

You're goin soft bro!

Just posted this on the Scumbag thread...

<<The most important position on the AB team - No 7 - is not covered. Several other key positions are shaky at best: front 3. No 8. No 10. No 11. No 12... hell, I'm an Aussie so I can't count past that.

Mex. If you have key players injured, the team you put on is your A team. If you have no depth, they are in effect a B team. That is the AB problem. Wallas - for a change - have got a bit more depth - even with several big name injuries.

does that make sense, or are you guys still in la la land?>>

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
I agree the All Blacks are very ordinary. As an expat living in Australia I am embarassed by their performances so far especially with all our talent over home. And what is the public view on the amount of penalty goals per match? I find it an insult to the game and to the fans, that teams are resorting/relying on penalty goals to win the game. Bring back the traditional rugby where players ran with the ball, creating plays, and scrummed for tries.

Re:All Blacks 2009 Reply to this message
I would agree. I don't think Henry would do that intentionally. However, it is not beyond him to now use that to his advantage. I can't see why there is so much grief going his way. Just by the statistics he is one of the best coaches out there. To say otherwise is to deny the facts. His record backs it up. At the end of the year it will be interesting to see what kind of record he has. I remember two seasons ago the WAL, ENG, SA did not have such a great go of it because they were "rebuilding." The ABs can loose 15 players at the end of a season due to contracts off shore and injuries and heaven forbid that they could be "rebuilding."

Blessings
