Just being ironic, that's all. I'm all for the British and Irish Lions really, no matter what their nationality.

It's just that in the past few tours where the English usually field the greatest number of players, the "British" [English] papers usually write some rubbish like I spouted about how the Celts don't make a contribution to the Lions and is the notion of assembling a squad from the 4 home unions a waste of time. Another example is when the English don't win the Six Nations, pretty much all the [English] journalists write stuff like it wasn't a "vintage" six nations (it's only ever Vintage if the English win).

So i thought i'd throw some comments in there to see what reaction the English / Kip would come up with. Simplistic parochial ranting is how he described it, which is true, it is. I just wish the English journalists would show a little humility once in a while.

As for the game, I thought alot of positives to come out of it. I can't wait until the autumn internationals and think the welsh and irish will take alot of comfort from the tour, even though they lost.

I think with home advantage in the autumn internationals the welsh will have a lot of confidence in getting a result. Of particular note, players like Adam Jones, Gethin Jenkins, Alun Wyn Jones, Mike Philips, Jamie Roberts and Lee Byrne have grown in stature from the tour. We also have alot of talent coming through, and don't agree with the notion that at age group level the English are setting the benchmark. They may have done well in the world cup, but at age group level the welsh are regularly beating the english in home tournaments. We have some very fine talent coming through from the academy systems.

I just don't reckon the Lions have the cattle to win this. I could be totally wrnong but I think the Boks will really shut them out today. Like they should have last week.

No problems

There are times when you need to bury differences and support the greater cause.

Simplistic parochial ranting by Geraint etc saddens me greatly and must cause no end of fun in the SH.

GO LIONS LETS WIN THIS ONE

Geraint you will probably reconsider your comments come the next Lions tour.
Good times only last so long and by the looks of the last 2 U20 World Cups where England has made the final both times. It looks like the bulk of the young NH talent coming through are English.
Mind you I understand your enthusiasm, it is quite funny.

One bit of advice, your leaving yourself open for a bit of a lashing if the Bokkes give your celtics a bit of a slap around this weekend which Im expecting will happen.

With the team announced for the second test, and only 2 English players in the starting line up, is it time for the core Celtic nations to pull out of the British Lions and create their own Lions team, leaving England and Scotland to create a lesser team, possibly the P.ussycats or 'Pussies' for short?

With Wales winning the Rugby World Cup 7s and the EDF Energy Anglo-Welsh Cup, and Irish teams winning the Six Nations Grand Slam and the European Heineken Cup this year, there seems little point mixing with the English these days, maybe we need to look at broadening our horizons?

Leave that one for you to ponder Kip. By the way, the Celtic Lions v Boks kicks off at 2pm if you fancy watching some decent rugby.

Can't see Boks winning by that margin Bish.

I think it will be closer than you think. If Lions can tweak their pack and put some pressure on at the breakdown, they are a big chance.

They have the backs to punch big holes in Bok midfield.

13-13

The boks will up there game now. De Villiers will be under some pressure, he cant afford the emerging talent team to dampen his (over) enthusiasm.

ABs 30+

Yo Gale,

Your comment "On the face of it" is spot on. As stated in message to Kip, the Lions could have and should have done it.

The fact that they did not, as well as that they came back so well in the end can be blamed on both teams coaches.

Vickery was a force in previous years but his sell by date has long gone and he did let the team down.

I am concerned about the next test but being the Bok supporter, my faith that my boys will pull it out of the bag will not waiver.

Going to be a cracker of a game. The Lions have the series to lose and will not go quietly.

AMABOKKE BOKKE!!!!!

I think Stephen Jones is a better bet defensively and usually kicks them over. Ronan has a revolving door defence policy.

O'Gara is captain today against the Emerging Boks so a chance to stake his claim.

Goeie dag Bok,

Hoe gaan dit? That's about it for my Afrikaans mate.

On the face of it, your comments are spot on - if you look at the team that faced up last weekend.

However, there were a few crucial issues that saw the scenario play out:

Vickery was worse than Alison Baxter in 07. Had Murray or Hayes been playing I suspect it would've been a bit different.

In terms of lineout, it will be interesting to see how the jumping goes this week with Jones replaced.

And the deadliest scoring weapon on the planet didn't even play last week: Ronan O'Gara. He'll knock over as many DGs as any current Jaapie will. Is he injured? got no idea why they would pick Stephen Jones over ROG.

Heita Kip,

I was surprised at the decisions made by your caoches as well as mine.

The Lions could have and should have taken this game. Their scrum and boot let them down. The Springboks have a good team but not as oiled as the Lions. I think that the loss might have done them good and makes it worry time for me.

Good luck for Saturday, amy the best team win.

Yo Gale,

Springboks lose? No, not having watched the Lions struggle against them as they did for the first 70 minutes.

The Boks have a scrum that walked their opposition, at one stage for 35-40m?. They have Lineout jumpers that are argueably the best in the world, a dynamic backline and to boot the bain of everyones life, kickers that can kick a mean drop as well as convert tries and hoof penalties.

The Lions were given six more games to prepare than their opposition and bombed out, had the situation been reversed, the outcome would have been much higher in Bok favour.

"The Beast"? MoM again? He might just want that cheque enough.

Now for the Juniour Boks. A interesting meet. Lets see what our up and coming are made of.

Well,
Considering the Lions bombed 3 tries over the line and they had to field that washed up Pommie joke of a prop Vickery, I would have to take Kip's side on this one.

Phillips scored the easiset of tries and every time Lions backs had it they looked good.
Beast had MoM performance but can he do it 2 weeks in a row?

Springboks nearly gave it away in the last 15 minutes, but were definately the better team on the day.

Good gutsy game by the Lions, well done.

Re:British & Irish Lions Tour - Comments Reply to this message
Bit disappointing.

We played the far better rugby - particularly in the second half.
No great shame to lose the odd line out to the best row in the world today but we lost far too many.
Scrums were a big problem as well and Vickery was all at sea. Cost us 9 points and I'd be stunned if you see him play next saturday.

Worries me a bit we're gonna have the Aussie Dickenson referee one of the games because he clearly hates us with a passion. He's proved that so many times.
Anyone see him run about 30 yards from his touch position when we had been awarded a penalty in front of the sticks to highlight a punch thrown and the Saffas ended up with a penalty!!

Re:British & Irish Lions Tour - Comments Reply to this message
boks won through the forwards dominating the breakdown and lineouts, and by dominating the first 10min of each half. beast had a blinder in open play while smit and rookie brussow were also impressive. scrums also went their way though i don't know how much the referee is involved in that.

the lions probably suffered psychological blows from stephen jones' early missed penalties and a pretty skeptical TMO call. They didn't manage to assert themselves into the game except in the midfield, where BOD looked dangerous all night. could have won the game in the last twenty minutes but missed opportunities cost them (i.e. monye dropping ball on line).

following on what you said dirty, it will only gets harder for the lions in pretoria. boks will continue to grow into their combinations.
