I think Gower could be in for a lesson playing at 10 in an international test match. It's a bit of a joke really, he played at 12 for Bayonne in his first season of union, they finished mid table and now he is an international 10.
Good luck!
This should be a hiding to nothing, 60 -70 points maybe more. |

Ado,
forgot to take issue with you re Justine Marshall and your ridiculous comments that he was somehow better than Cowan.
Did you not see Chris Whittaker on the field in the Baa Baas match? The old bloke showed Marshall up for what he is these days: an ageing, once-great halfback who can only play dirty and complain like a girl. Yeah, he's got mongrel, but not a patch on the mongrel that Cowan has.
Marshall is a club player at best. |

Sprou, these days of league recruits are not over yet by a long shot. There are a host of guys playing NRL that have played rugby and there are those who would love to have a crack at the world game.
Watch out next year for Will Chambers the Melbourne Storm centre who has been signed by the reds. He is a cracker. And dont be surprised if the reds go after Tomane from the Storm as well. He's an ex red who is killing them at the mo and he's off contract this year.
I read today Chris Walker from the Titans is also having a look at union. And my mail is that most player managers are being asked by their RL clients to look at rugby options (both here and OS) when they go off contract.
There'll be more Luke Rooneys and Craig Gowers bank on it. |

Benny Robinson looked dangerous every time he touched the ball against the Baabaas!!
But seriously, I thought plenty of them looked just as dangerous as O'C, particularly Mortlock & Mitchell. Still, I'm happy to see O'C get a atart.

Frog,
I think Dingo will have told the 2 of them he will alternate. And in particular, he will give O'C time in the early tests to see if he is at the level.
Despite 2Dads having a cracker, you'd have to admit that outside of Gits, O'C is the only Aussie back who looks dangerous every time he touches the ball... |

Two changes to the Wallabys for 1st v Italy, Mumm in for injured Hodgson (Kimlin on the bench) & O'Connor starting FB, Adam A/C on the bench.
While I am sure everyone is keen to see O'Connor get a go, it's a tough call on 2Dads, I thought he had his best game for Aus last weekend.

Zedds,I think ARU has probably learnt their lesson with expensive league recruits.Although I don't class Tahu as a mistake. The guy legitimatly wanted to swap codes and now is now starting for the Tah's,and isn't far off Wallabies selection.Sorry but I personally rate him.Yes that SA game was a disaster, but it is a learning curve.
Lote is probably another issue,he was probably signed for too much and for too long.He is here now and will be used in the upcomming series.
As for SBW,I reckon the Kiwi's will offer him big time, and entise him to play S14 and hope to show case him for the WC. |

SBW was a great marketing ploy for the game but to say he is world class 13 is a joke (whom ever said it) He went pretty well and nearly cracked the line early which would have been great for the game but otherwise he was out of his depth. He is a great athelete for sure but has to prove himself at lower levels before consideration for International duties.
I hope the NZRU don't fall over themselves to sign him for a possible All Blacks career, S14 maybe.
That is the ARU's style and look what happened to Tahu, he has only just realised after a couple of years that he plays for the team that is wearing the same colour as him and not the others. Last year he thought he was South African and scored 30 points for them.
Good luck to SBW though, he certainly is a presence on the field. I also though he handled his politics quite well and came out in a fairly positive light considering his departure from League. |

| It's good to see Lote dropped. Happy with that one... think we've got far more dangerous outside backs than Lote. Lote may be fast, but he's not quick off the mark and have the elusiveness that guys like Turner & Hynes have. Mitchell too to a lesser extent... Such a shame Ioane isn't playing. He would have had a cracker of a Test season this year. One word - BUGGER! |

Z,
I realize you are a Macca fan but come on. He was average.
To K1s who reckon SBW is world class 13, ask yourselves how he rates compared to Kahui & Smith: no comparison.
I'd prefer to see him as a loosie. He could do some real damage there. |

for no means i'm putting th concept down.I'm just pissed i had to go to a family dinner and had to listern to my wifes step mum talk sh!t.....It would of been a great game to watch and it's been a while since they've had and international at the SFS.At least i would been able to look at the Aussie side and see how much they have improved. It would of being a spectecale and for the Aussie fans something to cherish as this was probably a once off....
They beat England week....just reflects how good Eggland really is!! |

Have another look there Jam. Mortlock was a very clear and decisive winner of that contest. Also Gits and Mitchell both toasted him for speed a few times. I think he's a great footy player- got some good offloads and hits at different stages of the game, but he aint a 13's rear end. Well not yet anyway.
If I were K1 I'd be looking at him as a 7 or 8. Oh hang on a sec, he might not want to be one, given he can qualify as an aussie or samoan as well. |

SBW did a great job....got touched up thanks to hospital passes, but it seems the only time SBW and Mortlock were one-on-one was when Mortlock missed him...
Great potential.....if thats how good he is from playing club rugby to the a top 3 team in the world |

| Thought James Oconner showed he could be dangerous at O/s centre at 60 minutes to run at holes especially tired forwards in open play. He's strong, quick can kick smart and pretty good in defence, although not proven to Stirling standard yet. A great player to have on the bench tho. In fact if I was a selector my first player selected would be Oconner from 16 - 22. |

I would have been happy with that, gets the combinations going.
The BaBaas forwards didn't do the backs any favours that's for sure and there defensive lines were hopeless.
Bit rough on McAlister Ado, he hasn't played for months and frankly if Gits hadn't done the business on a night like last night he wouldn't be worthy of any international jersy. McAlister did his own shredding at times and on back foot ball so he did OK. Collins was everywhere and never gave up, got into everything he was very impressive on the back foot all noght. SBW can hold his head high, not bad especially against a full strength Oz side. You can see his potential.
For Oz, Gits and Mortlock were excellent and Morts did not have an easy night containing SBW. The forwrads were hungry and it showed. Lote should be out looking for some colourful yet comfortable new trainers for the oranges he is going to run out this year.
The Wall look like they have a good team and will be tough to beat. Which makes it all more worthwhile. |

As I said in my earlier post, baabaas were disappointing but to say it wasn't as good as a training run is just stupid. It gave Deans a chance to look at some things, a great first hit out, not too hard but against genuine opposition, now two games against Italy, presumably not as individually talented but better org*nised and then we are just starting to get ready for the real stuff.
I might be a little cynical here, but could I suggest if that was the AB's last night a few of the knockers would be declaring it a great start to the international season!

I' m not taking it too serious panther, but I'm not writing the game off as a hit and giggle game of rugby either. Remember this Baa Baa line up (minus 3 or 4) absolutely smashed England last week. So they're not mugs. Even their coach was disappointed because they came to compete, not just thrwo the ball around.
Yes, it was loose. It wasn't massively intense, but it was a great way to shake the ring rust for the Walla's.
Don't just dismiss some of the good things that came out of that game last night. Barnes & Gits kicking combination that led to territory domination was gold. Gits absolutely shredded McCalister (Who by the way needed to impress) Mortlocks angles were spot on, the outside backs finished well over their counterparts. In the forwards it was great to see Horwill play as well as he did. Smith as usual was best forward on ground.
Personally, I hope they find a spot for this kind ofgame at the begining of every season. Great spectacle for the fans, especially when you can march out a side with so many great international players. |

exactly panther1095 ...
I find it funny that people you are trying to get something out of this match for the Wallabies...
it was hardly any sort of ideal preparation for the youngsters and Robbie Deans would have gained more from a training session... |
