Good summary Ado.

I think the squad looks really good for next week... Unlike the All Blanks.

Deans played that game very well I thought. Gave the second stringers 70 plus solid minutes before pulling the reserves out. Smart way to build combinations and keep the match fitness up.

Lineout was ordinary, but I'm not sure that was Polota Nau's fault as much as it was the italians infringing and hassling the ball. Also untried combo's always going to make a few errors.

Loosies lacked a little punch, but once Rocky, Smith and Palu or Brown return to their proper spots it wont be an issue.

Dont agree on Burgess comment Posts. Thought he was crisp all night. Barnes and Cross were great in the second half.

Over all pretty decent performance.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing as close to Tri-series selection as possible next week. I think Adam AC should get the nod over the apprentice for next week. It'll be a step up in class and intensity and we'll need a few old heads.

I'd also start with Valentine and Waugh instead of Burgess and Smith, just to see them get a bit more game time.

Re:Wallaby selections Reply to this message
The Wallaby game was pretty much what I expected. Some areas for concern are....the breakdown. The Italians were very competitive here and I think the French will be much the same. We should have George back in his favourite position Rocky and Browny to come back.

Another area...the lineouts. Put that down to Poloto-Nau's poor throwing. He was very good around the paddock, though.

The front row gradually succombed to the power of the Italians. They were holding them early, but when fatigue set in, they were going backwards. Thought that they were very mobile though. Pek Cowan had some good runs.

I also think Burgess stands too upright behind the ruck/maul and his eyes are too busy looking for a receiver. He will get caught a few times doing that. A very good game otherwise.

There was that period after the break where they expected things to happen rather than create things. As a result, Italy had a lot of possession and almost controlled the game. It's pleasing they can up tempo when really required.

And I am an Ashley-Cooper fan. Thought he looked dangerous everytime he got the ball. O'Connor was okay, but you can see he is a little too raw. Would like to have seen him have a few more runs though. He will be good off the bench, I feel. Don't rush the lad.

Re:Wallaby selections Reply to this message
Froggy,

The comparison started with TSP if you read back further, I was responding to that and also fishing a little. No big deal.

Gale,

Last year we started the season without a number of players from the 2007 seaaon, 17 players were introduced to the team in 2008, 12 forwards and 5 backs. This year a further 6 new players have been introduced so far.
GH has certainly blooded new talent, some have worked out and some haven't. He has been battered by injury this year not to his new group but predominantly to his core team.

The situation is what it is and we will get on with it and develope.

Frog, Ado, Z, KOB & anyone else,

<<Zedds,
If you look through my posts, I have never critcised GH for last weekend>>

I have. But my criticism wasn't so much for his performance on that day because he didn't have too many options. My criticism is much worse: He created that situation by not having more talent available at that level by running conservative sides for the past 2 years.

Re:Wallaby selections Reply to this message
Ado,

settle on the praise for 2-Dads: One swallow a summer does not make (and when I say 'swallow', I'm talking about the flying variety LOL!!!).

Ashley-Cooper has had 2 really good games, which is a relief. And his kicking out of hand has been very good. I want to see a bit more consistency before putting him in the same class as the other 5.
