| Hasn’t Timana Tahu got a 2 match ban to serve before he is able to start playing rugby? I did hear the ARU and Waratahs were attempting to get out of this by selecting him for a 7s tournament. Is/was this the case? |

Out of the Aussie team, I dont think we should rule out Timana Tahu, swapping codes has brought new life to Timana and I think he will be one to watch..
Plus due to family ties with Timana its going to be hard when the Tahs vs the Canes I will be cheering my team aswell as Timana :) |

Well I thought he was big, but I just checked his profile and yes he is about Marshalls size. 179cm and 90 odd kgs.
Anyway I look forward to seeing him get a few starts. We have quite a few 9's in oz, but none of them stepped up and took their opportunities last year. Mind you its difficult for any number 9 when your pack going backwards most of the time.
Valentine, Sheahan, Berry, Phibbs....no one really impressed. I'd like to see Holmes start for the Broombs and Burgess for the Tahs.
Australia has to start blooding a few more youngsters right across the board this year.
New Zealand are very good at doing this, but we tend to let reputations hang around a little longer than perhaps they should. |

| Yeah I heard out of OZ that a couple of League Clubs had been hunting him, but he politely said no....However they were impressed with him too. And considering that in League you prob have less time to get the ball away from the scrum, thats pretty impressive! They also mentioned he had a good long pass something however that is sadly lacking in my game. You said he was big, you mean Justin Marshall size? |

Finally RC we agree on something. I post about Burgess a few days back. He had a cracker ARC. He is big, fast, loves running with the ball and has a strong passing game.
Hope he gets a few starts early on for the Tahs because he certainly has the goods. |

Yeah I have to go for an NZ team to win.
Most likely Crusaders with Auckland hopefully putting on a better show this year. Chiefs can't be counted out and who F@#king knows with my team the Huricanes. |

Aussie Super player to watch in 2008.
Waratahs halfback, Luke Burgess.
Absolutely awesome during the ARC, all he needs to do is prove he can step up another level.
I'm certain he will. |

That's so true my bro (Gabegiddens),If more high profile RU players did what Jerry does, bro NZRU would be at its peak 365 days a year and the game would go off big time with the crowd :)
But unfortuanltly once they become the big fish they tend to forget there roots and you never see them again.
My wife works with a fella who is related to Jerry (1st cuzzies) he told my wife that there is NO person on the Rugby field anywhere who has the heart like Jerry. No matter what he gives it 100%
Off the field he said that they invited him to a party they were having in Welly and when he rocked up people couldn't believe how laid back he was, you wouldn't even think the guy is a professional sportsman. He chatted, laughed was even signing t-shirts heheheheheheheh
He left a massive impression of himself to those that were there he made you feel like you are part of the team so to speak. That my bro is how you make fans and thats how you keep them through out your career.
Gab you might know, why do you think Tana gave up the AB jersey, even though he was like 31(I think) round that mark anyways, but he still had so much to offer NZRU. To retire from Internationals then to fly internationally to play/coach has me confused bro? what do you think? |

yeah bro he used to pick up my garbo...in Welly.
When he was at Uni, we(Uni-League)put him forward for a Uni Blue, did not go down well with the Uni RC as they thought blues were only for people who played for there club(or so I was told in no uncertain terms later), however he was at uni and was climbing through the ranks quickly at that stage. So League put him forward for a union blue. Agree totally Crewzin, again looking over the fence he is Porirua thru an thru! When North City Vikings(from Porirua) won the WRL comp in 2005, Jerry was up on the hill with the supporters, think it made us work harder, just to have him there. Wainuiomata might have had Piri Weepu as there Trainer but we had Jerry with our supporters. Made me realise that there is no greater game than our two codes, what ever we say about each other...Wish we had more of his sort in both codes plays for the love of his game as well as the bucks, in my book he's up there with Stacy Jones. |

Gabegiddens
Jez is an old school type person, will never foregt his roots & where he came from, The guy is a garbo at heart & will allways be a garbo. Jerry is the man in my eyes, could even be the back bone of the All Blacks or rather is the Back Bone....
When he broke his leg a few years back for recovery he went on a few rounds with his mates picking up garbage for the Wello city councel just to get back into shape + to make his knee(leg)stronger.
He is what legends are mdae from..... |

Yup I think Thorn was a casualty that the AB's should never have happened but for Henrys take over of the AB's.
Never once did he stop performing at the WC, could not understand for the life of me why he was dropped from the AB's in the first place, even Fred Allen thought he was doing well, and like GK said "A true gentleman of the(both)game(s)" I think Henry just used him as a scapegoat.
Compared to Unions answer to Willie Mason(Ali Williams)
Wonder where they will use him, love to see him in the loose with McCaw. Either at No8 or blindside...but guess he will be used off the bench. One way or another should give the other Franchises a stir up!!! |

Aido's dark horse bolter from Oz in this years S14. Look out for Luke Burgess. Eastern Subs half who has been signed by the Tahs. He looked very impressive in the ARC and could go all the way this season. Personally I think the Wallas 9 will end up between him and Josh Holmes.
Be interesting to see whether Beale will produce after a year of S14 under his belt. If so, it will make an interesing battle for the Wallas 10 spot between he and Barnes.
I dont think Deans will persist too much with any of the current front three in the pack. So opportunties for Faingaa and Polota Nau if they have a good S14. I wouldnt even discount a comeback by Huia Edmond either. And we will see if Blake and Robinson hit some form for the prop spots.
Cant wait to see how Tahu goes. He's being groomed at 13 for the Tahs but I ouldnt mind betting he could crack a 12 spot if he produces. |

| Just a note about Jerry Collins, he is Union boy but the measure of the man is a few years ago b4 he became a AB his mates rang him up and asked him to make up numbers in a premier club grade game(Parramatta Raiders)Jerry turned up and played, did alright considering the differences in games. Point is he didn't forget his mates, or where he came from. Put proffessionalism to the side and went into battle for his mates...pity a few other RL and RU players should remember when it comes to there clubs and freinds. |

| Looking over the fence from League I'll be interested in seeing how Brad thorn does, now he is back at the Crusaders, Tahu could turn out to be another Tana, though as RC pointed out somewhere they already have some great centres, on the wing, well Lote better regain some enthusiasm...Clinton Chikoski?(now that I know I've spelt wrong) saw him play the Canes game last year with the Reds, thought he showed some potential...also he's done State of Origin plus a year of Super 14, so this should be his year,(making or breaking). Yup Zeds I think Jerry is the man, and hope his hert is still in it, otherwise(LOL)he's welcome to come BACK to League...Agree about Nick Evans, in OZ will watch in interest the 1/2 backs, see who the heir to the throne is. South Africa? Ahh Jeckle and Hyde, which team will turn up? Will they kick on from the WC or will they do what they did last time again and self-implode? Individual Bryan Habana, One other thing I like the idea of a OZ Franchise for Argies and PI's, but will it happen? |

For OZ interested in seeing who takes over the halves, Barnes is just growing and growing, Kurtley Beale from what I have seen looks like he has the goods, where does Matt Giteaus future lie? As elusive and skilled as he is, I must admit I have always thought him too small for a 2nd five eight, but that might just be my image of a 2nd, I just see 2nd as a more robust player. If OZ can settle on the "engine room" and get parity in the set piece then they will be extremely hard to beat with the talent from the front 3 back.
1. Guy Shepherdson
2. Stephen Moore
3. Rodney Blake
4. Nathan Sharpe
5. Dan Vickerman
6. Rocky Elsom
7. George Smith
8. Wycliff Palu
9. Matt Giteau
10. Kurtley Beale
11. Lote Tuqiri
12. Berrick Barnes
13. Timana Tahu
14. Drew Mitchell
15. Lachlan Turner
16. Dunning, 17. Frier, 18. Baxter, 19. Chisholm 20. Waugh 21. Holmes 22. Gerrard
with Ioane, and Schifcofske rearing up.
Yeah I know, no Latho or Mortlock, I say get the cohesion going now, but then again this might just be a recurring AB follower nightmare. :-)
Can't wait for S14 kickoff.... |

Another couple of SA players I would keep my eye on would be Francois Steyn who I think might be SA's next Five Eight, he is brilliant, he has the sort of composure that is not usually apparent in someone as young as him, and he has a HUGE boot, also J.Peitersen who I think is a very underated winger and P. Spies who would have been at the RWC if not for injury, he is a monster of a number 8 with all the skills, and I don't know if you have noticed, but SA seem to have just soo many good half backs at the moment Du Preez who is in a league of his own, then Januarie, Conradie, and then Ruan Pienaar who also isn't exactly lacking in the skills dept either, HB will be hotly contested, does anyone think maybe Du Preez might take a NZ wife and defect? No disrespect to Leonard or Weepu but....
If not this year, then certainly the next SA might have problems replacing some of their more seasoned players, I am not sure who IS going and who HAS retired but players like Percy Montgomery, Bakkies Botha, Victor Matfield, Danie Rossouw, Juan Smith, Ollie le Roux, Bobby Skinstad, John Smit, must all be getting close, I so wish I could add Burger and Habana to this list FLOCK!!!. |

For OZ and SA I am just going to name a few and someone else can hopefully plug a few of there potential stars.
Oz
Chris Latham. Plenty left in him prior to departure
Dan Vickerman. Top player
Berrick Barnes. Is he the future?
Kurtley Beale. Or is he?
Tahu. Will he or won't he?
Giteau. Deans likes him. In S14 a proven asset, in International I still think he hasn't reached his potential
Lachie Turner. Pace to burn, expecting big things
Drew Mitchell. Getting better
Josh Holmes. Can he step up?
SA
Habanna
Habanna
Habanna
Habanna
Habanna
Yep that just about sums that up. |

Brendon Leonard. Chiefs
Has the front running as half back but will have to step it up a knotch to keep it. This will hopefully spur him on to greater things.
Mils Muliaina
A class act, plays centre for Chiefs but would like to see him stay at fullback. Expect him to have a big year I think he has unfinished business with the AB's.
Lelia Masaga
Another rocket ship that likes the try line. Another person to make the Joe and Sivi sit up and pay attention.
The entire Otago team.
Apart from Jimmy Cowan who had a good year last year, I don't really know many of these guys but am sure someone will step forward and make a mark this year. |
