I can never understand why the crowd always goes bonkers for Lote Tuqiri. Not anymore anyway....
I mean -- whats so great about him? He KICKED the ball to no one when he could of kept running and if not scored a try, then get his team very close to the line. He didn't back himself very much. He also, if I remember correctly, conceeded a try for his team when he lost the ball forward. I'd be very surprised if Robbie Deans puts him on the wing for the Wallabies. If he continues like this anyway. |

1. With 2 extra players on the field, it is 15% harder to make a line break in Union than League
2. You require extra skill (not necessarily talent) to actually then make the breaks.
Point taken here Gale, allways found that the openside was someone I didn't take into account when I was playing centre in union, however on the otherside I found the front on tackling skills when I was playing of union backs was not of the same skill as in League, however this has changed these days and both codes practically use the same defence manual...havn't actually seen any S14 games this week watched the Rabbits play the Saints, and Leeds vs Melbourne...Will catch up this week on S14 recorded the games catch others on replay.
Tahs seem to still be doing okay though a win is after all still a win!
Cheers !!11 |

I think there's a pretty strong case to be made that NSW haven't had a decent no.10 for 25 yrs (Mark Ella).
Norton-Knight is injured. When he's back, maybe Beale can go to fullback, Turner to the wing and Tahu to 13.
Or maybe slot into the backline that cat of yours Ado. It could tackle better than Kurtley and surely has to be quicker that Sheehan. |

| Beale is a defesive joke. My 3 year old siamese cat could run through him. Halangahu isn't much better either. If I was Link I would do a swap with Mitchell. Give him Valentine and send back Lachlan Mckay. He was the best fly half the Tahs have had in the last 10 years. Also where's Sammy 2Dads.. Get him into the show. Beale is not the answer to anything for NSW. |

| Putting beale on the wing won't do any good for his confidence...But thats just typical waratah Selection....Some people just don't have to go through Club rugby to actually make the cut...I was whining about this last month...this is a typical example...why isn't Hallangahu from Sydney Uni not getting a run (is he injured).... or are they scared Beales gonna run off to league because he's too good to sit on the bench...If They had half a brain...play Hallangahu for 50mins...and put beale on for 3omins...he will be more of an impact player around tired defenders...what do you think??That could be an option!! |

And another thing. I have seen plenty of little halfs in rugby league defend out on the wing (Preston Campbell, Benji Marshall, Kimmorley), but I have never seen it in rugby. Tahu defended at 5/8 in the set pieces and Beale on the wing.
The funny thing was that the first Otago try come from phase play after a set piece with Tahu at 5/8 , who smashed the first guy who ran at him. Later the ball goes out to the wing, and Beale, like a turnstile, just goes - admit one - to the try line.
I really, really wanted to like Beale, but the bloke has just got to go back to grade footy and learn how to tackle and kick properly. Too many years of being told how good he is. Perhaps not enough work ethic to back it up. |

The try that Thomson the reserve Otago lock scored said it all about the Tahs.
Beale drifted across field threw an unbelievably obvious pass to Tuqiri, who must have been watching himself up on the big screen, because he wasn't watching the ball. He coughs it up (albeit under the pressure Beale had put him under with his drifting), Otago toe it down field, and almost all the Tahs look at each other and think someone else will chase. Where Beale and Tuqiri were on the chase, I just don't know.
So you have Sheehan in a foot race with a guy 20kg heavier and a foot taller. The lock completely outpaces the halfback, embarrassment for any back. And the only other bloke chasing was Elsom, who was making plenty of ground on both Sheehan and Thomson (if only we had 14 more of him).
Being a Tahs fan is submitting to 2 hours of masochism each week during the winter..... |

MG,
The ref was absolutely USELESS! some of the pedantic frees he gave were close to unbelievable.
That said - as bad as the Tahs were (and they were trash) - the better team won on the night. The only Highlander who looked really dangerous each time he got the ball was the Islander winger. The number of professional fouls they committed was ridiculous. They play negative footy which will doom them to the wooden spoon. At least the Tahs played a krappy form of attacking football. |

Well Sprout,
It was far more entertaining than the Waratahs Highlanders debacle and the Bruumbies played some fantastic running & defensive rugby. I reckon you missed a pretty entertaining game in the end.,, |

| I started watching the reds and *** bies but got so sick of it decided to let the kids watch spider man instead. To be honest i don't think Aussie rugby has come to far from last year and that said i think (aussies) are in for a long year.Saying that SA sides seem to be in a hang-over from the WC.So maybe,it will be a good year for the Kiwis. |

| Right. Now that I've had a chance to calm down after such a shocking referee display I would say the Highlanders are doing nothing to help themselves either. The poor refereeing will not relent and they'll have to work on the little things otherwise they'll be like the Reds from last year and really struggle to win anything. Although much better than in previous weeks and I thought the defense at times was brilliant. |

| Tah's win but a penaly at the death could have drawn the game.Waratahs kicking game is really bad.Not just kicking for goal but all round tactical kicking is woeful. They really don't play as a team, and don't seem to know what sort of play is on.They did defend quite well but on that performance they have no chance of making the finals. The highlanders hadn't won a game and looked the much better side,in a rubbish game with a rubbish ref....They won i suppose, |

| Mark, Dunning should get penalised for impersonating a footballer. |

I'm sorry....how is it that Dunning DOESN'T get penalised for going to deck in the scrum but a flanker does?
Most useless referee I have EVER seen based on that fact alone. My little brother could get that call right. Second time now a referee has cost the Highlanders their game. |

| Half time.bwt Tahs and Highlanders.Highlanders well on top.Luckly late try by the Tahs but they are playing rubbish footy. Can't win a lineout to save themseleves.Highlanders looked the better side even with a player in the bin...Not over yet and conditions are not great but they will really have to lift to win this one |

I was probably tired & emotional Ado. suppose I'm just really worried about whether next Sunday arvo v Saders will be a repeat of last year's black mark-in-the-book shocker or the last game of 06 season.
There's gonna have to be a massive improvement to even be in the match... |

| Be happy with the four points Gale. Not easy to come by over there. Also the Force has one game at home before they're off again. So the last part of the season will be played a lot at home. So if they can stay in the top half of the ladder until then it'll put them in good stead for the finals. |

Force played abysmally to win a game that they should not have. Lions were robbed of a certain try off a Force mistake.
Force had most of the possession and made half the tackles, less than half the missed tackles and simply did not have the talent to close out numerous opportunities.
Maybe I'm being too harsh because I'm a fan, but I thought it was a game they should've posted a bonus point win in. Woeful. |

Scoreline didnt give much justice to that game, handling errors killed the chiefs, best Super 14 match of the year so far, thouroughly enjoyable.
Chiefs campaign will continue.
