I would love to see the chiefs in the finals. Unfortunately the odds are against it. It could happen but it is unlikely. Being from Hamilton, I am a huge supporter of the chiefs. I was there this year and saw a game live. They have all the potential in the world but potential does not win games. I am still hoping that things work out and they manage to get in. However, I think it is wishful thinking. If they do get in, and the game is against the Crusaders, it will be a good one.
Blessings

Sorry to say, but the Crusaders were well off their game that day against the Cheifs. Take them on in Christchurch with their team at full strength and they've got as much chance as the other top teams. They probably play the most similar style (to the Saders), so can damage as easily in broken play.
BUT if they were as good as some of you Chiefs supporters say they are, they'd be higher up on the ladder. That's the truth...
PS I still love seeing them do well. |

Hey Mel,
I was offering my congratulations to the Saders in a mood of defeat. Really wanted to see the Chiefies make the semis. They are the team that could topple the Saders and realistically I don't think anyone else is in the frame. If nothing else, a chiefs/crusaders final would make for a great match. So what's your thoughts Mel? Who do you support?
Blessings to you too. |

| Mel your right bro. any team is beatable at any given day but if history has any saying in the matter, the Saders at home in the finals is going to be a monsterous under taking. I can't see the sharks , stormers or the tahs beating them at home. Reckon only an Aotearoa team can beat the Saders in the final rounds > Canes maybe |

Hiforhim,
That is not the point. It is not good enough to be the favourites. You still have to win. I think the Cantabs are the best team in the contest but they still have to have a higher score on the day. .... Until then, they are beatable. Probably not a likely chance but a chance none the less. So to announce them champions already is premature - that is my point.
Blessings

I agree Jimmy, still you got to play the hand you're dealt- Rain, Hail or tropical storm. More interesting to read about Gasnier making the switch. Word is he is mightily pissed about non payment of $$$$.
I think a year in France before joining the Wallas could be a nice introduction to the game. |

| I disagree Mel. The Chiefs win over the Crusaders came as no surprise. Yes, I know the TAB were paying over $3.00 on the Chiefs to win that match (in which I had a small flutter)but if you'd seen them take the Brumbes apart in Canberra a couple of weeks earlier you wouldn't have them placed as underdogs. Actually, they stil underperformed in both their victories against the Brumbies and Crusaders - should've beaten them by more. Yes, of course anything can still happen. The Australian cricket team got beaten by Bangladesh in a one dayer a couple of years back, the Kiwis beat the Kangaroos 24 - nil in 2005. No one's infallible. But given the Cantabs have secured a home semi, I'm prepared to say it's done and dusted for another season. Since they started their winning streak way back when, you can almost count on one hand the number of times the Crusaders have been beaten on their home ground. The Blues, the Canes and the Chiefs are the only teams that have achieved this. Had the Chiefs not beaten them in the last round in 2007, the Cantabs would've gone on to take the title again that year. |

Hifromhim,
It is not a matter of specifics. It is just the nature of the game. You can be the best and loose a game and be out of the contest. The Cantabs were meant to win against the chiefs but did not. They were probably the better team on paper but in the paper they were the loosers. Ask the ABs about being the favourites but not making the finish line. I bet there are about 30 of them who tell it aint over until the fat lady sings..... soooo don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Blessings

Just watched the replay of Tahs/Stomers, and I thought NSW played really well and probably should have won. They were definitely more exciting to watch, particularly in attack, and in my opinion were the better side. I'll take a draw though...
Bring on QLD!!!!!! |

| Come on Mike and Mel, be a little more specific. Bearing in mind that the Cantabs have secured a home semi at Jade stadium, Who from the current top seven teams do you think can knock them off? |

Hey hifromhim,
A little premature congratulating the crusaders... They can be beat - just as the chiefs.

| KOB, I was always confident of the Canes reaching the semis, even when they dropped a few of their home matches. They have a good record in South Africa and they didn't disappoint this year either. I was also tipping the Blues to qualify for a semis berth. NZ has four great teams and anyone of those teams have the POTENTIAL to go all the way. Problem is the Chiefs don't tour overseas well, the Blues simply haven't lived up to their potential under Nucifora (Why oh why was he selected in the first place)and the Hurricanes have a ceiling over their head in the form of the Crusaders. This would be Coopers 4th or 5th season in charge of the Canes and under his tenure they haven't beaten the Crusaders once. As I said on here a couple of months back. If they can't beat the Saders at the caketin in Wellington, forget it!! As for the Stormers chances, if they cannot secure a home semi berth they're stuffed. Just as the Crusaders and Blues were last year, although I remember that scorching break that Toeava made...Put Pat Lam at the Helm. He will bring the best out of those polynesian players and then we'll the Blues at the top of the table. That's where they should be now. |

I think the Canes are up to it. If the Chiefs played like how they have half the season they would have been beaten anyway. Very dissapointed, Stormers are up to it.

Another super title coming for the Crusaders.
The only team (the Chiefs) that could've beaten them don't look likely of making it. The Warratahs, Blues and Hurricanes aren't up to it.
Congratulations Crusaders!! |

The only thing im going to be saying 'what if' about is was Mays boot intentional, or does it not matter as Aussie Stu says, it was the outcome that mattered, didnt seem to have any effect on the match anyway.

Alas, they did indeed. Another appalling defensive performance, and Ben May will be twiddling his thumbs and working on the exercise bike for a good long while.
In the States, we call this "a few bricks shy of a load". Where to start rebuilding?

| about a couple of months back I criticised the coaches of the Hurricanes, the Chiefs and the Blues. But the Chiefs really turned my expectations upside down when they beat the Brumbies in Canberra. I know the Brumbies aren't the side they used to be, but what the Chiefs achieved was no small feat considering that historically they're an awful team on foreign shores. Their victory over the Crusaders was no fluke and neither can it be attributed to the Cantabs having an off day. The Mooloo boys beat the Saders down in Jade last year as well and I think Deans and co would have had extra incentive to avenge that loss. I know it sounds picky to criticise a team that beat the Crusaders, (afterall it doesn't happen that often) but really the Chiefs should've been able to secure the bonus point as well. That match is indicative of where the Chiefs are at now. Since Canberra they've lifted their game considerably, but they're still not nailing the opposition as well as they could. If the Chiefs could make a few more tweaks to their game, and barring a turnaround from the Blues and Canes, there's no reason that they could not go all the way. They're the only team capable of stopping the Crusaders, and what a fantastic final that would be!! Hate to say it, but I have this nagging feeling that those one or two extra tweaks the Chiefs need will see them missing out on the semis once again. The next couple of weeks in South Africa will be very tough for them. Not only do they have to contend with history, but they are now fighting for a spot when every team is determined to end the season with a fighting flourish. They've already proven me wrong. I hope they can do it again. Go the Chiefs!! |
