what i'm saying dwain will find it hard to actually run sub 10 secs after he moves to league. If you held your breath everytime you made a run the build up of latic acid will cause you to fatique quicker then a normal footballer. It's a noraml thing for a sprinter to do.Thus Dwain will have to change his breathing tatic so that oxygen gets in his blood stream.......training your body to live off one breath is takes time....
So what i'm really saying is if you don't do something for a while , you just can't pick up and be at your very best the 1st go..... |

Panther,
I am not saying that Dwain would be running sub 10 secs after 60 mins of rugby I am simply indicating that in sprint speed terms he is faster than anyone else. Your biology lesson is a fair point but every other winger etc would also be tired as well so the speed gap between an Olympic class sprinter and simply a fast rugby player is likely to remain fairly constant |

Sprinting involves muscles contracting powerfully and rapidly and utilises type 2 muscles
Sprinting muscles cannot receive oxygen quickly enough and so rely on non-oxygen/non-mitochondr ial based systems that produce ATP rapidly. For about the first 5 seconds of sprinting all the existing ATP in the muscle cells is used. Then for about the next 20 seconds creatine phosphate donates its phosphate group to any nearby ADP thus producing about four times as much ATP as was initially present (this is called the alactic acid or ATP-PC system where PC stands for phosphate- creatine). After about 25 seconds the system in which pyruvic acid from glucose, released by glycogen breakdown, changes to lactic acid is important (this is called the anaerobic glycolysis system). This system is limited by buildup of lactic acid in the blood.
Thus my proof Dwain chambers will not be running sub 10's.He will have to change his running style and his endurance to last 80 mins not 10 secs.... |

To panther1095,
Who is the dumbass? When I wrote that Dwain Chambers would beat All the rugby union guys I was talking about basic speed not getting past them. After all this is a discussion about who is the fastest player NOT the most elusive/powerful etc. If we were talking about actually beating an opponent to score, then over the last 10 years the only person who I would bet my life on to beat the fullback/opposite winger is Jason Robinson who was definately not the fastest but was by far the most elusive. He also did the same in rugby league , a sport that historically is defensively superior to rugby union. Who is the dumbass now? |

I agree jonarim.
Most people get dellusional watching these players run on tv, sure they are fast but its their acceleration that is fast and gives them the look that they can run 100m in 10 seconds (no way). How would some of these 100 and something kilo guys run olympic speed when they weigh 10 or more kilos more than an actual olympic sprinter.
Actual time them running the 50 metres they usually get run maximum on the screen, I think you will find Highschool boys can run the same speed espacially with how long it takes some of these guys to wind up (not including masaga).

Does anyone have any definitive proof of how fast some of these people have actually run , as reading the last 10 messages it is clear that Rocoko(sorry for spelling) is getting faster and faster. In 10 messages time he will be running a world record.
Personally I find it difficult to believe that he has run 10.16 as I am assuming this is probably the actual New Zealand record for track and field so why is he not running at the Olympics? At the same time if he could run that speed as a rugby player then what would he do as a track and field athlete with the specialist training they get.
By the way if Dwain Chambers does join Castleford Rugby Leage he would beat ALL the rugby union guys as even without drugs he was still running sub- 10 secs. |

| I can't beleive this thread isn't dead yet! So for the last time. Matt Dunning over 25 metres when faced with a free buffet is faster than any other player in the game. OK? |
