JONARIM

That some guy was Gordon Tijens NZ Sevens coach.Rokocoko was timed electronically but there were 2 differences.1 done on field in boots 10.66sec also timed for 40m in the same run 4.66,and 1 done on track in spikes 10.17 but NZ Rugby association doesn't really and so does Joe he's just glad he's playing rugby. When Rokocoko was (17) and was still going to school Saint Kentergens don't know if your heard of that it he set a Auckland secondary schools record with a time of 10.55sec and has not been broken since. Also Rico Gears former student at east coasts Gisborne Boys high yet to also be broken 10.63sec now does it in 10.51sec

Rico Gear said it himself that when they were playing in the Allblacks and NZ sevens together that Joe was the quickest in the sevens and the Allblacks and whats this Sivivatu is pretty quick yea he is pretty quick but i can tell you names that are quicker and knowing you,you probably would'nt even believe me.1)Isaia Toeava,2)Anthony Tuituvake,3)Lelia Masaga. And these guys are not quite up there with tose guys.

KIWI

Yes I know that was the same run but the funny thing is he was timed at 10.66sec on grass in rugby boots. If Habana *** ed 10.4sec is what they say he did in spikes on a track but he says only 11sec.Then imagine what Rokocoko would be on a track i'd say 10.3sec.Because former Crusaders wing Rico Gear timed at 10.51sec.At Queen Elizabeth park,Christchurch in 2006 and he was wearing spikes and on an atheletics track with team mate Caleb Ralph.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
Said by the man himself Joe Rokocoko that he has *** ed 10.17 but was not given to NZ rugby association. It was *** ed at the NZ sevens when they were out looking for speedsters.Gordon tijens said it himself yes Joe has *** ed 10.17sec because at NZ sevens training he said that Rocokoco had *** ed 10.33sec for 100m,and for 40 4.66sec but Joe said thatbecause the last time he was timed back in 2003 (20) where he *** ed 10.66sec for 100m and he admitted that, that was one of his poorest performances because he holds the 100m record at St Kemps 10.55sec.He's now says 2008 (25) that he is capable of *** ing 4.4sec for 40m,and 10.2 for 100m.

Gordon tijens said that Joe Rokocoko was the quickest/fastest NZ sevens player that they have ever produced followed by former crusaders wing Rico Gear 10.51sec,Soseni Anesi 10.53,4.53 for 40m,Zar Lawrence 10.72sec.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
As I said before we have to be careful about these times as they will not be timed according to track & field rules e.g. hand timing. I still find it difficult to believe that a 15 stone man who has bulked up to play rugby and has no specific sprint training can run in the 10.1 - 10.4 bracket for 100m. It seems wierd how Rokocoko can run officially 10.66 but then rune 10.17 and surprise, surprise it was by some "guy" , how was it timed?

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
How no Joe Rokocoko according to Stats is the quickest Allblack ever.In 2003 (20) Rokocoko recorded a New Zealand Rugby 100m record of 10.66sec and for the 40m 4.66.Last year 2007 he told the press conference in an interview that 2005 he *** ed 10.17sec for 100m but it was not recorded by the New Zealand Rugby association. It was recorded by some guy.Rokocoko himself says now (25) if he was to be timed he estimated that he could *** 4.4sec for the 40m and 10.mid 2's for 100.Also Former AllBlack wing Doug Howlett who was once a pro sprinter on *** ed 10.68sec the 4th best time ever in NZ rugby with the likes of Soseni Anesi 10.53sec and former crusaders wing Rico Gear 10.51sec.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
Shane Williams is the Welsh wingman who holds their try scoring record , he is VERY fast over a shorter distance but whether he has the speed of the best is difficult to know.

it doesn't matter how quick they are over 100m, it's the initial burst of speed that is most important. Give me Shane Williams any day!

Good point Grant but his return time to the Burger stand was 3.46 seconds into a head wind. A world record all the same.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
S LOCI,

Even though I except that Rokocoko is probably the fastest in the world (only until dwain Chambers actually starts a game for Castleford) , I think we have to be VERY careful about the stats you are showing as clearly the times are not timed according to track & field rules whick may make them inconsistent for comparable purposes.
To highlight what I mean, the current WORLD RECORD for the 100m is 9.74 held by Asafa Powell , his split times were 40m 4.005 , 60m 6.32 , 100m 9.74. So are we really expected to believe a 15 stone man with no specific training , no peaking at the right time etc is capable of running within 100th second at 60m of a world record that smashed the previous 9.77 ( the 60m split fot that time was 6.34).
The indoor 60m world record held by Maurice Greene is 6.39.
I am not disbuting these times but clearly to compare the times there has to be consistency and clearly issues like wind speed/electronic timing etc was clearly not taken into account.
One other point - where are all the non Kiwis e.g. Habbana, there is also rugby league (even though I cannot think of anyone apart from Dwain)
