Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
chavanga does NOT have the zimbabwean 400m record, Lewis Banda does. If you are going to make a statement at least make it accurate. 10.2 training times do not count, and never will. Chavanga does not now, nor has he ever, held a zimbabwean sprint record, and his best recorded time is 10.27 seconds, that is the only admissable time in this discussion, and is the only time he has broken 10.30seconds. Hand held times do not count, training times do not count, times recorded by mates watching a dvd do not count.. End of story.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
im not taking anything away from these rugby league players but these times you guys are quoting, 10.xxsecs, how were these times recorded? were they official races?

I do athletics, the 100m in particular... i can understand why these rugby guys have tremendous starts over 40m, the more powerful the legs the faster and further you get out of the blocks, top sprinters would have powerful legs like rugby players... have you ever googled how much ben johnson could squat? he is a freak

the reason the players you spoke of that have tremendous 40m take off and then drop off to the end of the race, is most likely be tecnique, alot of sprinters get found out over the 100m. power and stregnth is a big part but not everything

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
I reckon 'tombutcher ' would have to be the fastest lol. However, tom you have forgot to mention Chavanga hit 10.2 on three 3 different occasions during a weekend training camp, he still has the Zimbabwean 400 meter record, Habana has averaged 10.4 and Joe definelty has the endurance to run the 100. The difference between
'lining up against quick runners" at a regional meet is that these guys can change direction and speed a lot quicker can any sprinter can .Most of the weight that these guys put on is to aid their athletisism and they shed any weight that the nutritionist deem bad, thats the reason for the fortnightly piss test. Differnce between wannabe and talented mate .You can add your ownmessage on your "rubbish list"

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
Fastest with the ball in hand or without the ball? That is the question. Need to consider speed with evasiveness. Ron McCarten is the answer.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
"Fastest man" in rugby can only be determined when they undergo the 100m sprint test....

But in an actual rugby game, a 120kg prop or loose man could beat the fastest backline opposing player during any of those rugby "greatest moments"...

your not as quick with the ball in your hand as you are without it so unless you you get the jump of a couple of metres you can be caught.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
as a person who does both athletics and rugby some of the rubish i have seen writen is amazing.
chanvaga (i know spelling) is the fastest. give it a few years in top flight rugby and 10 kilos later he wont be.rico gear did the 100 in 10.7 official with howlett not far behind.howlett did the hundred in 10.68 at school however i bet after placing 14 kilos on him he aint there now. these guys had speed endurance meaning after 50 there speed remained for longer than most. rokoco..is rapid over 40-50 but has not the endurance over the whole length of the 100m to do times of sub 10.5. let alone 10.7
i have lined up against people who do these times and the main factor is that i am 2 stone heavier than these guys. when fit i am around 10.7-10.9.....however after joging for 10 mins on the pitch no where near this since am a lazy.
brian habbana has *** ed 10.2 weather this is stop watch or not who knows. cullen the legand had great speed endurance.
and lets not forget the french....the carrot bothers for brive qualified for olympic 4x1 low 10s in the hundred fact!
my point is that you would be suprised how little wingers are doing the hundred in less than 10.8 only the special ones.....they dont train for it no point if you cant get away in the first 20 meters. not that they dont have the tallent to.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
"Anyway, going off point. Mini has run 40 in 4.1, 30 in 3.5. Nfl players have recorded sub-4.5 second times on an extremely regular basis. It can be done. It has been done. It will continue to be done. i dont care what timing is used, more people play and are interested in footy than athletics, so maybe its athletics that should adapt"

Sorry big, but it is utter garbage. The world best for 40m (not record as it's not an official event) is 4.21s by Asafa Powell. Mini has and will never run 4.1 for 40m, especially not since his surgery, it is chinese whispers at it's worst. People lie because they lie and whoever told you that one is as full of it as they come. When I worked with the Bulldogs over a summer I was given all sorts of 'stats' on the players, which after a week of testing I discovered to be utter rubbish and threw in the bin, same with Brisbane Lions in AFL. It is all smoke and mirrors that clubs put out to get people talking and other clubs worried.

"toderei chavanga hold the zimbabweyin 100,200 and 400m national record and currently plays for chiefs"

Incorrect again. Very Incorrect. Lewis Banda over 400m (44.68) and Brian Dzingai over 200m (20.12, and 10.19 100m) are well ahead of chavhanga whose best recorded time is 10.27. The Zimbabwe 100m record is 10.15 by Fabian Muyaba in 1992..

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
id vote for christos fiotakis as the fastest man in rugby.
he plays for nice rugby club in france and for the greek national team.
he represented greece at the sydney olympics as a reserve 100 metre runner and then ran in the 4 x 100 metre relay at the athen olmpics before taking up rugby.
