Lethal finishing skills!

Actually Lomu probably was but for sheer class you must go for Gerald Davis of Wales.
I have seen footage and he was truly amazing

| As an England supporter it pains me to say this, but Jonah Lomu was the greatest winger ever in my opinion. Easy Campese was a close second but Jonah's sheer power was special. (I still have nightmares about '95)! |

| Yeah, in his day he had the 'goose step', he was a good winger, side steps and all. He was fast, but if we're gonna open the door, well it could be shared with a multitude of names from the past and present. Goes with our own preference i guess. I liked Jonah, mowed em down like ten pins. |

To Mark Gibbson.(ignor the comment below- i hadn't read your response and so i repeated my previous comment)
Perhaps i was rash in my decision about Habana having overlooked those three other world class wingers. I do howover agree with the comment by jam2 in that, i feel Habana's strike rate would be higher if he was in Roko or Sivi's boots. Let's just agree to disagree in regards to the BEST winger.
Back to the debate, as i hace stated, i've watched Tonderai Chavanga at Newlands and he is on par with Tom Varndell as the fastest I've seen on a rugby field.
I'm pretty quick myself and i can assure you that both would skin me! |

I appreciate your opinion, but if you read my comment you will see that I ALSO think Habana's speed is massively exaggerated.
I do, however, think he is the most impressive winger that I have seen in a long while, based on the fact that he scores many amazing individual trys and has so many skills despite the fact that he is only 24.
In regards to the speed debate, I think that Tonderai Chavanga is the fastest rugby player in the world. I recently discovered that he runs the 100m in 10.27 seconds! To put this in perspective, there are guys at the world athletics chapionships in the 100m that cannot run as fast. I am not supprised by this as i saw him play at Newlands and he was RAPID!!! |

ru, strike rate has nothing to do with it, because Habana is hindered by the unimaginative backline that SA have. If Habana was on the end of the ABs backline, then he would have accummulated tries just like Sivi & Roko.
As far as best winger, the best allround winger has to be Sivivatu both for offense & defense |

Mattleed, I know you didn't say Habana was the fastest. I was simply pointing it out for people who think he is the absolute king of speed. Oh sure, hes quick. We all know that and I'm not saying hes slow because that would make me just stupid but not the quickest. I'm sorry if that comment appeared direcred at you because it wasn't.
Anyway, at the moment I can't be stuffed giving a long-winded argument but for the record, when on song Joe Rockococo, Sione Anesi and Lelia Massaga are better than Habana. Massaga is recognized as one of the best defensive wingers and quickest in NZ and I think his size edges him past Habana...hes a very very good young man and is being tipped as the next All Blacks winger easily. As far as Anesi goes, he is in fact the fastest man in New Zealand and his physicality and work rate speaks for itself. This too gives him an edge over Habana. This is my opinion....I don't think Brian Habana is the best winger in the world. But he is good, I'll give him credit. |

Over 30 metres, I think Habana.
over 100 he is definetly not. |

| Let's no get side tracked, the debate is 'who is the fastest' and for those Naive fans, Habana is not the fastest. In my opinion, the FASTEST is Tom Varndell or Tonderai Chavanga. I've been to Newlands and saw TC play and i can tell you that he is absolutely RAPID!! |

To Gibbson... Read all of my comment before replying, Jackass!
If you read my comment you will see that i also think Habana is not the fastest, so i don't know why you're using this as an arguement. But i will stand firm with my opinion that he is the best winger in the world. I too agree that his SPEED is overrated, but you cannot argue with his obvious talent. Consider that he is in the early stages of his career and has already scored many memorable tries. He has still many years to improve in ALL departments. There ARE many faster players, some you may have seen chase him down, but are those players even regarded in the same status...No. I do not think Habana is the Fastest, but i do think he is the best, if you don't believe me, look at some of his tries on youtube and then argue that he is 'overrated'. PS. Can you name me three wingers who you think are better? I'll argue any! |

Best Attacking winger to ever walk the earth, Jonah Lomu.
Fastest man in rugby has to be Matt Dunning.

Brain Habana is anything BUT the best winger in the world. He is extremely overrated and many players in our NPC competition have ran him down, and that includes the likes of David Smith and Lelia Massaga. He doesn't have the all-round game to even be considered "the best."
Throw as much track records in my face as you like but I've seen with my own two eyes many players catch up to him before....many players. And hes not that defencivley sound....he still gets ragged dolled a fair bit. |

Brian Habana is the best winger in the world, bar none. He is strong, agile, defencively sound and very fast; however, he is definately NOT the fastest. It is impossible to determine, for all you know I could be the fastest! The point is that the fastest is most likely someone low key. Here, however, are some notable players who ARE faster than BH.
Tom Varndell (100m in 10.3)
Chavanga (100m in 10.3 also)
USA left winger (forgot his name, but 100m in 10.5)
Paul Sackey...Yes... Paul Sackey (100m in 10.6)
This info demonstrates that even the most unlikely wingers are faster than you think. Although 100m speed isn't that relevant to a match situation, it does indicate how fast the top speed of each player is and Brian Habana, although he is a better player than the above, does 100m in 10.98...FACT! P.S. I run hundred metres in 11.2 aged 17 and play wing... Watch out habana! |

What are u smoking?
Habana does it in 10.4 sec...and what makes it better, is the fact that he can play rugby unlike Nigel "never was anything" walker |
