Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
Agree it was a terrific try...right from the start...with the intercept and the big FEND on Butch James...two passes and then a really good long pass...then the little shimmy and the run around Habana a great finish-although I think it deserved a bigger flourish to dot down with..maybe a 'Latham' dive?

@jam2pou

Are u stupid?
Obviously Habana would have run around Ngwenya if the situation was reversed. Dont be pessimist.

It can go either way, there is only 0.1 sec between the two of them with Habana the quicker over 100m

Sorry malintor, your viewpoint is slightly coloured too.

I read many articles re. 'the Flying Eagle' before I saw the vid. Guy was faster... and that's simply a fact.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
Habana was flat footed when the guy took off, and he seemed to catch up a bit. I wonder if it was another 30 metres. Never know though.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
Habana gaining on Ngwenya? Of course he was! HE had the angle!! It made Ngwenya's try all the more satisfying in that although Habana had the angle, he still had to dive to get anywhere near him! Put it this way, I doubt Habana wouldve run around Ngwenya.

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
a bit like 5 witnesses to a car accident and all give a different view point, eh Don? :-)

I only wrote what i saw, its possible its coloured with what I'd like to see, as is apparent with a lot of people who enjoyed hyping the moment and "seeing" that habana got burnt.

you'll notice that this thread is one of the longest running threads here. I wouldn't have expected that all. I mean what's the big deal?

but as i said in an earlier post, it has a lot to do with that male mentality of "my di*ck is bigger than yours"

everyone is here to try and outdo each other on the "comments"...and we're not even the ones running around on the field on WC level :-)

Finally, if mbeiki had any brains, he'd lure Takudzwa to play for the Boks, in exchange for getting rid of Mugabe :-)

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
actually, in watching the clip again, and in start, pause, start, pause mode, especially the replay part from a different angle, its clear that habana was actually catching up to Takudzwa.

watch the clip, about half way thru

Re:Fastest man in rugby? Reply to this message
i just watched the contentious moment on youtube (finally)

before i viewed it, the hype led me to believe that habana was like left for dead, that habana was left 20metres back, that Ngwenya just accelerated and habana couldn't keep up.

like all things hype, the truth is different when you see it, understand the facts, blah, blah.

there wasn't much of a sprint between the two, it wasn't like that habana chased Ngwenya for 80 metres.

it was a short distance, and Ngwenya had a running start. Very hard to 100% conclude that Ngwenya JUST burnt habana.

What i saw was that Ngwenya caused habana to hesitate (VERY CLEVER) and that allowed Ngwenya to have a head start.

I'm not saying that habana would have caught him otherwise. I would say that if they raced each other fair and square, over a period of say 6 months, they'd each win about half the races.

From their own individual records, they're basically neck and neck. Which means that's great for rugby and the spectators. Unfortunately, they won't be squaring off each other very often.

I'd lay off the tall poppy syndrome and just give credit to both of them for making rugby that more exciting.

and considering Zimbabwe are going thru the dark ages @ the moment, its good that Ngwenya is giving his people something to smile about.
