| Again who cares who is the fastest winger..... Habana is just an apprentice - Joe Rokocoko has scored 43 tries from 47 tests..... he is a tradesman and as he has always done will take your SA pup and spank him......this is a self gratification threat for Saffers........... |

| Alright, it is time we gave up on this. Maybe we should start a thread “Who is the best Rugby player”. If you argue this much over how fast someone can run, the “best” is going to have some great input. |

| i agree wid jetrocke but i rekon over 100m bryan habana will beat ngwenya by bout 2m but in a sprint that is a thrashing by any means. thats juss like asafa powell getting blown off by 2m by tyson gay. so i rekon they shud get the 8 fastest men in union to have a 100m sprint to settle it once n for all |

"I bet some money making kingpin, is going to get them running a 100 metre race after the world cup.....my money will be on ngwenya"
------------------------- -------------------
we were talking about this at work yesterday. ie get them to race. But not for profit. For a charity fundraising thing, or to assist the smaller rugby playing nations, etc.
On the other hand, it would be pretty nutty. Habana and Ngwenya taking time out from rugby to train with an athletic coach, cos they won't want to lose. They're "stupid men" after all with egos and the like *lol*
And a Nation's pride will be at stake...
And they could open it up to all wingers etc and make it bigger than Ben Hur. Getting crazy :-)
I do think it was overhyped though with no consideration to the players, or to the facts, etc. Just the media seeing a good story and blowing it out of proportion. And people who might not be so affectionate of the Boks, it gives them an outlet to throw a few kicks in. And there's the tall poppy syndrome. The David vs Goliath thing. Good to see the underdog have its day in the sun, etc, etc, etc.
I would still maintain though that Habana was catchig up, and he had considerable distance to close. But ngwenya was carrying a ball, so it slowed him down.
And on any given day, I'm sure they'd outrun each other a few times each. One day ngwenya might have a headache and lose, the other day Habana might have had a fight with his wife and his mind not be on running. Many things affect your performance in sport or day to day living.
There's not much difference between them so there's no absolute truth here as to who is fastest overall. Unless one consistentantly ran 10.5 and the other 13 secs. |

| The only thing faster than Habana is the rugby ball, but he will see that against Fiji, he has to watchout for the strength, style and speed of no.s 4,5,6,7,11,13,14 strike weapons. |

ok here goes a females opinion.
I am a crazy sprinkbok fan, and a very patriotic fan....but Ngwenya outran Habana.......not only did he suffer a facial injury on sunday but a badly bruised ego. the billboards in south africa read....'the man who beat habana' .......I bet some money making kingpin, is going to get them running a 100 metre race after the world cup.....my money will be on ngwenya |

I am not stupid and wont resort to name calling such as yourself.
However, Don's right, maybe you should watch it from a rugby purists eye rather than that SA one. It was a great try, Ngwenya ran AROUND Habana on a curve, beat him for pace and scored what is the best try at the World Cup to date - THAT you cannot deny. |

| This threat is giving me a headache.... all these ALLEGED times being thrown around.....did any of you actually have the stopwatch on these players you are talking about or are you relying on something you read somewhere. If some of these guys are so quick how come you dont see them in competition......as ado says who cares - I have seen some very quick useless wingers.... one named Bruce Hunter even played a couple of games for the AB's back in the 70's. |

Zedds its simpler.
One runs the 100 in 10.7
The other does it in 11 flat.
The other is Habana. End of story. He got smoked! |

Habanna clearly new he was beaten he did the old desperation dive to try and lay a hand on Zimboy 8-10 metres before the try line.
You can't say who is faster than the other by a 0.1 sec differance over a 100 metre race. They didn't ever race against each other and they both would have secured there PB's at different times and different conditions. It is not an apples for apples comparison.
Also Zimboy was running a curve whilst Habanna was running a straight line to cut him off.
Non of it is conclusive but on this occasion there was only one winner and that was the man who ran around the outside of Habana. |

I can't beleive we are up to 13 pages on a subject that means donuts. Campese, & Jonah were never the fastest wingers. And the current day speedsters wouldn't be good enough to lace their boots.
Lets name a few more not so quicks. Kirwan, Wilson, Grigg, Egerton, Burke, Inga the winger etc etc
So what's the point? Martin Offiah was an all time speedster. Could he catch a ball? No. Could he kick a ball? No Could he tackle someone? No
Speed on its own means nothing. Dumb thread. Move on. |

| Habana was catching up but only slightly. Still you run faster without a ball in hand than when you have one in hand so he was favored by that. Very little between them IMO based on that. |

hey don
watch this clip from youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1NSbvopI7A
when you get to the 2nd replay, around the 1min 06 sec mark, hit the pause button and play button etc.
you will see that once habana realises he's been outwitted, he hits the pedal basically from almost standstill position.
Keep hitting the pause play button and you will clearly see Habana catching up.
I showed it to 5 people at work today and all agree that Habana was gaining.
When you watch the last replay, you will see how Ngwenya sidestepping outwitted Habana and caused him to hesitate.
The commentator says so too, and Ngwenya has said that himself in postmatch interviews.
That gave him a split second headstart, which only p*ssed habana off to give chase and close the gap.
at the end of the day with atrocious things happening worldwide, this is a minor quibble. However, it is worth a shot in trying to see if two different perspectives can find an objective viewpoint, via dialogue. Because in this case there can only be one truth. Either Habana was catching up, or he wasn't.
How to prove it is the interesting part, and for most people, they'll only see what they want to see.
Its why some court cases can go for months. Humans are complicated creatures.
We might have to send the clip to Mythbusters for them to do the whole scientific thing *lol* |
