Players dont want to go to Canberra, the same problem souths had of attracting top class players.
Might take one big name to get others there.
But with the young talent there now, in a few years they might be on top. |

Moo if the broncos had come in 82 as canberra did or 84-85, Meninga, Belcher, Jackson and the rest would have stayed in Brisbane.
they have done pretty well this year considering the injuries and other problems. Phil Graham is back after 10 weeks out and is the raiders best attacking option outwide.
With Zillman, Milne, Campese, Graham, Carney in the backs they have a very exciting future.
They need, like souths did a couple of big name guys in the forwards and they can be one of the top teams in the future. |

With the establishment of Brisbane, Mal Meninga had an out clause in a 5 year contract that ststed if Wayne Bennett left Canberra, he could go to. Mal chose to stay as did the rest of them and preierships were won under Mal's leadership.
Gary Belcher stated that he was never approached to play for Brisbane even when his Canberra contract was due to expire. He was a Kangaroo and I think Manly and Easts made big offers, but he stayed in Canberra.

Roll on permierships to the mighty Green Machine |

As said in a recent player poll, they dont wont to go to Canberra.
In the 80's and 90's they used to get a lot of guys from Qld and NZ. Since the Broncos and Warriors admissions into the ARL those avenues for getting players has dried up.
If the Broncos had come about 3-4 yrs earlier, Meninga, Belcher, Jackson, Walters, Coyne wouldnt have been there.
They have to hope that a batch of promising juniors come together at the same time.
The only guys they get these days are guys wanting a second chance in the NRL. |

| Any thoughts on the Raider's ever buying some big name players or is it that they wont, and they are trying to build through juniors. |
