If you have halves that catch-and-pass then a flat backline is OK.
Sutton likes to take on the defence and slip a pass.By the time he does this,the flat back-line is alredy 2 steps ahead and he has to take the tackle.
An old style deep back-line would allow him to do his thing and also put the defence in 2 minds. |

John Sutton took the Sharks line on during the game and whenever he looked wide the backline was usually in front of him.
Play deeper lads to give Sutton the options he needs . |
