Rabbitohs head coach Jason Taylor says his team have lost concentration at vital times in both of their matches so far in 2008 resulting in them having no wins from the first two rounds.
Souths trailed the Roosters 34-4 in the opening round of the Centenary Season before fighting back to salvage some respectability with a 34-20 full-time score. And in this round's Good Friday encounter with the Bulldogs at A N Z Stadium the Rabbitohs led 12-0 until just before half-time before going down 25-12 without scoring a second half point.
"We're certainly not an 80 minute football team at the moment and that is our biggest concern," Taylor said.
"And I don't think we are a 40 minute football team either. There is not enough consistency in what we are doing. The issue for me is consistency, as a team we are not sticking to the plan that we set out. It's a discipline thing and we have to work harder and harder to improve on that. When we work together and play as a team we are effective but it's not enough, the game goes for 80 minutes. They are the issues we have had in our two games this season."
Rabbitohs co-captain Roy Asotasi said he was frustrated with his team's start to the season. Last year in Asotasi's first season at the club the Rabbitohs claimed victories in their first two games over the Roosters and the Eels, but things haven't gone that way this year. Asotasi is yet to taste victory over the Bulldogs club since leaving Belmore at the end of 2006.
"It's been a frustrating start to the year," the Kiwi international said.
"We let the Bulldogs back into the game. We were playing in patches, we weren't disciplined enough and that's how the 'Dogs got us. It's a problem the way we are playing at the moment but it is still early in the season and we have plenty of time to work hard and get it right."
The Rabbitohs next game is the round three clash against the Panthers on Sunday March 30 at CUA Stadium Penrith with kick-off at 2pm. |
