Jason Taylor left scratching his empty head again after making the Sharks look like a good team. LOL 0-6 for the bunnies! How about we bring NS Bears back and kick the bunnies out for crimes against football.

Have to go back to the defensive mind-set they had last season.

If Hegarty has to play,Im glad hes on the wing.
He still rushes out of the line and leaves his outside men stranded.
When hes on the wing he sometimes rushes up and in,which can work as long as they cut the ball from going wide.
Just has brain explosions sometimes that cost Souths plenty.

Minus superstar backrower Sonny Bill Williams the Bulldogs scored again just three minutes after half-time when former Maroons centre Willie Tonga crashed over for a four pointer after a second man play opened up a hole in the Rabbitohs defence. El Masri converted to even the scores up at 12-all.

The Bulldogs side scored again in the 46th minute through rookie centre Tim Winitana to hit the lead for the first time in the game. The Rabbitohs defence was breeched for the third time in the game on their right hand edge, and the Bulldogs led 18-12 with the El Masri conversion.

The Bulldogs then edged further ahead with a El Masri penalty goal from 30m out straight in front of the posts after Rabbitohs co-captain was penalised for interfering in the play-the-ball in the 58th minute.

Things got even worse for Souths when Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten crossed for his team's fourth try of the night in the 71st minute from an inside ball from five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth. The try came on the back of some good goal line defence from the Dogs when they repelled a number of sets of six on their own line at the other end of the park.

El Masri missed the conversion leaving the score at 24-12 and leaving South Sydney with a chance at victory.

But the result was put behind doubt in the 75th minute when Holdsworth landed an easy shot at penalty goal for a 25-12 scoreline.

Bulldogs 25 (M Utai, W Tonga, T Winitana, L Patten tries; H El Masri 4 goals; D Holdsworth field goal) def

Rabbitohs 12 (B Lowe, E Paea tries; I Luke 2 goals)

Bulldogs 25 Rabbitohs 12

The Rabbitohs have suffered their second successive loss of the season going down 25-12 to the Bulldogs at A N Z Stadium.
South Sydney dominated the first half and led 12-6 at the break but were held scoreless by the Bulldogs in the second half.

Much like last week the Rabbitohs failed to complete a number of their sets and were let down by a series of handling errors.

Souths started the game in impressive fashion and back rower Ben Lowe had a dream start to his NRL debut when he crossed for the first points of the contest in the 17th minute. After earlier knocking the ball on over the line in the seventh minute the younger brother of Rabbitohs prop Jaiman took a Ben Rogers inside pass on the short side and carried over Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten for his first NRL try. Issac Luke converted for an early 6-0 lead to the Rabbitohs.

In a first half punctuated by handling errors it was the home side who struck again in the 29th minute through rookie halfback Eddie Paea. The Mascot Jets junior beat two defenders at the Bulldogs line and then beat Patten in a powerful 20m individual effort. Luke again converted for a 12-0 Rabbitohs lead after the half hour.

Souths were denied the chance to go further ahead three minutes later when video referee Chris Ward turned down a John Sutton try after he ruled Nathan Merritt had knocked on in the lead-up while attempting to latch onto a Ben Rogers bomb.
The Rabbitohs dominated much of the game in the first half and would have gone into the sheds happy with a 12-0 lead before Matt Utai crossed in the final minute of the first half. With the seconds counting down to half-time the Bulldogs swung the ball wide on their left hand side 20m out from the Rabbitohs line and created an overlap for the winger to cross. Hazem El Masri landed the sideline conversion for a half-time score of 12-6 in favour of the Rabbitohs.

Vagana set for rehab not retirement

Rabbitohs senior player Nigel Vagana would like to clarify reports that he is contemplating retirement after a setback with injury at the start of the 2008 season.

"I've spoken to the coaching staff and the players and I've been granted the opportunity to undergo another four weeks of pre-season training and rehabilitation to get myself right for this season," Vagana said.

"I've got a lower back and hamstring problem which is holding me back, and rather than try and push on and play with the injuries, I'm going to take four weeks out and get myself right, which I think is best for the team."

"I didn't start pre-season training with the team until January this year after the World Cup Qualifiers and the All Golds game, and my body isn't quite ready for the new season."

"I'm 33 years old and need to make sure that my body is right to play week-in and week-out. I still feel that I have a lot to offer South Sydney and I want to be 100% fit so I can help the team make it through to the finals and play my best at the business end of the season."

"At this stage retirement isn't on the cards, but if it gets to a point where I can't perform at my best each week then it is something that I need to look at. In saying that I still feel as though I have a lot to offer and I'll be doing my best to get back on the field, 100 per cent fit, for the Rabbitohs in four weeks time."

PAEA REPLACES WING, HEGARTY REPLACES INJURED VAGANA.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their NRL and Toyota Cup sides to take on the Bulldogs in round two of the NRL's Centenary Season this Friday 21 March at A N Z Stadium.

Head Coach Jason Taylor has named South Sydney junior Eddie Paea at halfback replacing the injured Craig Wing. Ben Rogers returns to the side at five-eighth, with Shannon Hegarty also returning to the starting line-up. Germaine Paulson will shift to the centres with Nigel Vagana sidelined with a lower back and hamstring injury. Second-rower Ben Lowe will make his first grade debut this Friday night with Luke Stuart reverting to the interchange bench. George Ndaira will fill the bench position left vacant by Paea's promotion to the starting side.

Fans should pre-purchase their tickets to this blockbuster match to avoid queuing at the gates on Friday night and to save money on each ticket purchased. A special Right Royal Easter Showdown ticket package is available for pre-purchase from Ticketek, giving fans entry to both the Royal Easter Show and the Rabbitohs vs Bulldogs match. Tickets are available from Ticketek agencies, online at www.ticketek.com.au or by calling 132 849.

First grade kicks off at 7.30pm with the Toyota Cup starting at 5.20pm. Gates open 5:15pm.

Rabbitohs flyer Nathan Merritt showed his knee injury last season has cost him none of his pace when he crossed on the 19th minute for the Rabbitohs first try of their Centenary Season. But that was to be the only points scored for the half for the home side.

A couple of defensive misreads on the Rabbitohs right hand side allowed Roosters back rower Anthony Tupou over for tries in the 25th and 32nd minutes and the Roosters led 24-4 at half-time.

In a match somewhat reminiscent of the Roosters final round win last season the Rabbitohs fought back in the second half but ran out of time to snatch the victory.

In the second half Souths scored tries through Yileen Gordon (59th minute), Merritt (63), Luke (65) and Paulson (72) against Roosters tries to Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Sa in the 48th and 51st minutes for the eventual scoreline of 34-20.

Souths co-captain Roy Asotasi said it was not the start to the season he had hoped for.

"It was pretty disappointing," he said.

"We didn't really do what we had trained to during the game and we need to fix that but credit to the Roosters they were the better team."

Wing told reporters in the dressing room post-game that he bore no ill-feeling for the tackle.

"I'm gutted, it was just a really unlucky thing," he said.

"But I'm not blaming anyone for what happened. I'll be back."

Wing will have diagnostic scans tomorrow to determine the full extent of the damage to his should and Rabbitohs Director of Athletic Performance Errol Alcott said at first diagnosis he could be out for between six and 12 weeks.

Sydney Roosters 34 (A Tupou 2, S Sa 2, N Myles, S Kenny-Dowall tries; C Fitzgibbon 5 goals) def

South Sydney Rabbitohs 20 (N Merritt 2, Y Gordon, G Paulson tries; I Luke 2 goals)

Toyota Cup

Roosters 14 (A Cherrington, S Waqa, G Teo tries; B Cronin goal) def

Roosters defeat Rabbitohs
Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason Taylor has denied a Roosters 'cheap shot' on halfback Craig Wing cost his side victory in their first game of the NRL's Centenary Season.

Wing was taken off in the eighth minute with a dislocated shoulder in the 34-20 loss after being felled in a three man tackle. Roosters hooker Riley Brown was the main aggressor in the tackle in a hit Taylor described as a 'cheap shot' but stopped short of calling it illegal.

In his first game since switching from the Roosters to the Rabbitohs at the end of last season Wing did not return to the game and his is expected to be out of action for between six and 12 weeks.

"It was a cheap shot I don't think there was any doubt about that,"Taylor said.

"They held him up in the tackle and then the other guy came at him. It's not illegal but teams are coached to hold up the player in the tackle and I think that is something that needs to be eradicated from the game. It's about fair play and sportsmanship."

The loss of Wing compounded the loss of five-eighth Ben Rogers in the halves in the lead-up to the game but Taylor said it did not cost his side the game.

"It impacted upon us but at no stage did we lose that game because Craig Wing wasn't there, the Roosters were too good for us on the night."

The Roosters opened the scoring in just the 4th minute through a converted try to centre Setaimata Sa and then added to that with another converted try to back rower Nate Myles for a 12-0 lead after 10 minutes.

Players to watch

Craig Wing

Back in the red and green after eight years with the Roosters and faces his former side first up. Has slotted into the playmaking role comfortably under the guidance of head coach and former first grade half back Jason Taylor and scored the match winning try in the Charity Shield. Sure to be fired up for a big one to start the season.

Willie Mason

Been talking the talk and says he can walk the walk. Loves to fire himself up for a big game and has been instrumental in building the hype in the media this week. The cheer as Craig Wing runs onto A N Z Stadium will probably only be matched by the boos for 'Big Willie'.
