Even if Cassisi has been worse Tredrea has lifted greatly.
If thats the price and reward for the captainship changing hands I'm all for it! |

My problem with Cassisi as captain was that he wasn't really a good enough player. The captain doesn't have to be the best player in the team but he needs to be good enough to have a big influence on games...Cassisi is a battler but not much more. Unfortunately, Port didn't have a really good candidate for the job so they had to choose someone.
Cassisi's first 5 weeks were terrible, he hardly had a touch and had no influence whatsoever. His last couple of games have been better, working hard in the packs and getting some clearances. Hopefully he'll continue to grow in the job. |

Well Cassisi is doing the job well so far. Overall I think our leadership is much better this year and its getting results.
Now we need to become consistant. We can afford to be a little shakey now but in September we need all cylinders firing all the time. |

I think Cassisi will develop into a great captain, seems to have his head screwed on. Just hope he can help sort out the inconsistent form we're showing. Burgoyne led from the front when stand-in skipper but Dom was still the best choice I think.
Tredrae seems to have a new lease on life since giving up the captaincy and finally getting fit. Hope he can keep it up.
Let's just hope Cassisi doesn't get hit by the curse which seems to hit anyone with the No1 on their back. |

| I wasn't overly happy with the choice at first, wanting Cornes for the position, but after the last couple of games im all for Dom in the role, his playing has picked up since he became captain, and his courage and 2nd attempts.....I think they made the right choice. |

Burgoyne would have been a bad choice. Cassisi is a much better choice.
I would have liked to see Kane Cornes get the job. who knows - Cassisi may turn out to be good in a captaining role.
In any case Tredrea needed to go. |

DOMENIC Cassisi will captain the Power in 2009, with many AdelaideNow readers questioning whether he is the right man for the job.
Midfielder Cassisi, 26, a veteran of 128 games for Port Adelaide since being drafted in 2000.
Shaun Burgoyne and Kane Cornes will be his vice-captains.
Cassisi, Burgoyne and Cornes were all picked in the same draft, and all three played in the Powerâs 2004 premiership side.
âWe have run an exhaustive process, with the on-field and off-field leadership abilities of the players all taken into consideration,â said Port Adelaide president Brett Duncanson.
âWhile we had an outstanding field of candidates, in the end it was a clear decision for us. Dom has emerged very, very strongly over the last two years, and in the last 12 months in particular.
âHis club-first and selfless attitude, both on and off-field, has won the absolute respect of the playing group, management and coaching staff.
âWith Shaun and Kane supporting Dom, we now have a young and dynamic leadership trio in place which will serve us well into the future, providing long-term stability at the footy club.â
Cassisi said he was overwhelmed by the support of his team-mates.
âI take great honour in being named captain of the Port Adelaide Football Club,â he said.
âThe support I have received from Choco, the leadership group, the coaching staff and my teammates has been overwhelming to say the least."
Power coach Mark Williams said Cassisi would be "an outstanding captain".
âHe is a typical Port Adelaide captain â a hard and tough player who leads by example," Williams said.
âDom has enormous respect within the playing group, and has always shown great interest in the welfare of other players."
As captain, Cassisi will take on the No. 1 guernsey, as is the long standing tradition at the club. His No. 25 jumper will remain vacant during his time as captain. |
