We aren't exactly overflowing with options in defense. Its in defense where we lost as we couldn't clear the ball.

Part of it is because the Saints are that good. Part of it is because we need to improve. We definately need to go harder at the ball.

I'm getting sick of seeing players standing there waiting for marks only to see them cut off by a running player - usually leading to an opposition goal. Don't wait for it - attack the ball! Grab it like you are meant to have it.

Kudos to Brogan for going hard at ground level. A big man doing that puts the crumbers to shame.

The same old glaring deficiencies on show again. Poor workrate (no hard running to provide options or backup), terrible skill level, complete inability to handle pressure and a disgraceful lack of fight and spirit.

I don't believe Mark Williams is a coach who can mould a team into a tough, disciplined, hard working unit. Port continually fail in these areas. I'm doubting more and more that he's the one to make them a top side.

There are a few players who have overstayed their welcome too. I don't understand why Michael Pettigrew seems to be an automatic selection, his constant clangers and dumb decisions drive me nuts! Try him as a leading forward or get rid of him, he's not a backman's a-hole.

Re:Saints at home Reply to this message
your are far too kind trav, far too kind.
I rate it as the worst game I have ever seen a Port Adelaide side play.

Example: I can still see Pearce waddling with disinterest under some dark cloud, in a fatalistic, non-trying, already-beaten manner, as if the ghostly "footy gods" were against him, and so he had no chance. That is the attitude I can not tolerate.

You are meant to keep trying in football. That was what I learned as a kid, and I saw Port do it year in, and year out.

But this stuff is not the Creed.

And kicking backwards - put a ban on it! It never helps us.
(Maybe in the last half-minute of a close, tight game, just maybe kick it back once then. That is all, I reckon.

They have skills, yes. But need the old fighting ethic, they really do.
They have lost it. The bruising from the Cats Grand Final has still not delivered its lesson. It is only a lesson, when it has been learned.

I am very disappointed in Port's lack of character.

Even though it was a heavy defeat, it was nowhere near the carp that was dished up against WC. It certainly showed them the level they need to strive for.
As much as I admire Choco and what he has brought the club, I think it may be time for a change, and from what the papers are saying (which you can take with a pinch of salt anyway), it looks like he may be looking elsewhere anyway. If this does happen, the position would be pretty appealing to prospective coaches I would have thought. I reckon Buckley or Hardwick would be a good fit.

Re:Saints at home Reply to this message
Port didn't choke they were thoroughly outplayed by a superior team.

St Kilda deserve to be in top spot with their current form and it will be a tough ask for any team to beat them.

Re:Saints at home Reply to this message
Well Cornes kept Dal Santo quiet by his standards, as usual, pity we got flogged in every other facet of the game. Ho hum bring on next week.

Re:Saints at home Reply to this message
Heard on the news Kozitschke (I think that is spelt correctly) is out for about 2 weeks from injury. That can only help the Port Adelaide cause.

I agree - shut down Dal Santo and keep Riewoldt under wraps and we're in with a good chance.

Re:Saints at home Reply to this message
St Kilda have generally been one of our whipping boys over the years, no matter what positon on the ladder either team are. Having said that, they have beaten us twice out of the past 4 meetings, but not at AAMI for years. For whatever reason we seem to match up well on them and I hope this week is no different. Cornes will shut Dal Santo out of the contest like usual, so hopefully our midfield can take advantage of this and get the ball to the forwards efficiently like last week.
I think we will learn a lot about Port this week, hopefully it's something positive!

Its a daunting task playing St Kilda right now. Any team thats 4-0 with over 200% percentage will be tough to beat even at home.

I think the boys can do it but only if we bring our A game on the day. We need to show some consistancy and prove our terrible performance against West Coast is the exception and not the rule.
