In that case it makes sense he'd want to go to the Crows. Still it feels like Port practically gave him away.

I do hope Symes does well for the Crows. Next year could have been his year at Port but he'll never know now.

i think you people have all missed something. symes grew up as a crows supporter, he felt he wasn`t getting a fair deal at port in terms of playing opportunities, he asked to be traded to the crows believing he would get more game time. with the departures of torney and mattner i think he may be onto something.

Lonie plays a different role than Symes, but he could be categorised as a fringe player who'll probably be on thin ice by the end of next season. Haven't heard anything about North not wanting him.

will lonie now be their first option?why play symes, then get rid of him and keep lonie.i know we are not privy to the ins and outs of a footy club, but it just seems strange to me.has anybody heard what team lonie is playing for in the sanfl-i think im correct in saying that north adelaide wouldnt want him any more-does anybody know???

Because he was the best option they had to play in defence. Who else were they going to bring in, Lonie or a rookie?

It seems weird they'd play the guy in the grand final then ship him off. Why do that with a player who seems lacking?

just interested in your opinions on symes.i thought port were happy with him,he got picked before a few others, notably lonie, for the gf and suddenly hes off to the crows.there must have been something there they didnt like, port surely wouldnt have given him up otherwise.torney had a good year at the crows,an established player, not too old, symes comes in,unestablished, whoosh torney gone.symes would want to play good footy cause the pressure is well and truly on!!

Re:2008 and drafting Reply to this message
There always seemed to be a suggestion that Port saw deficiencies in Symes' game. Don't know what they were but I don't see him being more than a run of the mill player. He definitely needs to beef up a bit, been in the system for a few years now and still looks like a skinny schoolboy.

Defenders - can't think of any delisted ones worth having, there's no point taking players just for the sake of it. Have I overlooked anyone?

Now the trolls and haters have stopped bombarding us we can get back to talking about the team we love.

First up I think trading off Symes was a mistake. We need defenders and all we got for him was pick 28. Unless there were some underlying issue regarding Symes the trade just seems bad to me.

As for how we draft I can see us giving a few lifelines to delisted players. We have a strong side who only need experience to be better so raw recruits are only going to slow us down. We will probably never find another Rodan but we have a strong base that only needs minor adjustments - especially in defence.

I was suprised Port didn't try to aquire some more defenders in trade week to strengthen our main weakness.
