Well maybe you were watching SBS instead of 7. They're the station with noticeably less ads.
I also noted that there was a 5 minute replay montage followed by 2 women's 100m sprint semi's then another replay montage in between commercials.
Fantastic Olympic coverage. |

glugglug@y7mail.com - How many times to have to tell people on this board I have no association with Seven at all.
Seems like you are very dense!.
Why is it if you don't complain about the coverage your labelled as a Seven mole.
Well I guess that makes all you whingers as Channel Nine staffers doesn't it? |

| icat, it' really good to see you're back on the job as Defence Counsel. As you obviously have a foot in the door, so to speak, perhaps you could wake up the moderator and alert him/her to the offensive nature of the some of the posts on this board. There's a definite lowering of the tone, so to speak. |

Well regarding the law not that I'm aware of. I think there might have been. Not 100% sure.
Anyway. I thought the coverage last night was good. |

There is no law, Seven is not a government run institution. They are a commerical network and ads is what they generate money from to buy the rights such as the Olympics.
How the earth do you think the ABC could ever afford the Olympics? Simply they can't without huge Government investment or increasing taxes. |

I though tthe ads were noticeably less last night. I did note that we got four gymnastic rountines before an ad break and that they showed all of the gymnastics last night.
No complaint here. |

Watched quite a bit of Ch7 tonight and noticed that they have between 5 to 8 Ad breaks per hour. Most are 3 to 3.5mins long (with an odd 2 min ad break here and there).
ANYWAY theres an average of 18 mins of Ads per hour.
They are only meant to show something like 12 mins per hour by law SO HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH IT?.
And to think there are viewers out there who actually think this is acceptable and think Ch7 are doing a good job. |

| We did see some gymnastics and I enjoyed the women's marathon this morning -- but it's like being humbly grateful for small blessings, ecstatic because they occasionally show something that doesn't involve water. And I love equestrian events but if they show that Japanese whose horse spooks once more I'll hurl my riding boots at the television. In the time they take to show it, they could show several events. |

So much on offer...so little provided! From the patently amateurish (almost embarrassing) presentation skills of Joanna Griggs to the studied avoidance of, and indifference to, regular on-air notification to viewers of scheduled times of upcoming televised events. How many times have we all walked away from the TV in disgust as the 16th replay of some swimming replay, or the 16th commercial in a row, or a swimming-hero interview is aired, only to return to find the event we were sweating on has been run and won!!
Channel 7 has to this point shown disdain and disrespect towards its viewers, and is doing its very best to perpetuate the impression that their advertising sponsors and shareholders, (gee...guess that means you Kerry...) rather than their customers, will always come first. |

Woeful, said it before, will continue saying it. F*ing AFL is on now between two teams I really don't give a damn about again. Honestly, you'd think that with 4 years of preparation and a change of gov't they'd have sorted out the legalities of multicasting or made a deal with the other stations to take up the slack and actually provide the viewer with quality coverage.
SBS is showing the tennis now, at least they know how it's done.
As for field events, don't hold your breath. They'll probably make a montage of super-slow-mo of some athletes we never saw perform live. |

"How much are you enjoying the excitement from the track?" the lady says.
Like . . . what excitement would that be then?
This is what we *haven't* seen - except for one or two miserable replays.
Mens Shot put
400 hurdles men
Womens Discus
Womens pole vault
Womens 400 metres rounds
Womens 100 m rounds
Mens long jump quals
Most of womens heptathlon
Mens hammer throw
Mens 1500 metre rounds
Womens triple jump quals
Senate enquiry anyone? |

So. The AFL game has started in WA. I love AFL and I've only lived here 2 years, but is there any chance that they'll show any of the 7 Olympic rowing finals that will be on at the same time with a delayed broadcast (irrespective of whether the 4 Aussie boats win or not)? A naive position of hope but in other countries I've lived at least the commentators know their sports (thank goodness for Phil Liggett in the cycling), do show the finals irrespective of nationality of the winners (I've still not seen a repeat of the men's 100m sprint final but I feel like I could commentate on every swimming race so far in my sleep), and don't spend around 50% of their broadcast time on ads.
Knowing how sports mad the Aussies are I can't understand how the scheduling and broadcasting can be so bad. Please Channel 7 - sort it out in week 2. |

There are a lot of AFL vs Olympics comments here BUT 7 CAN SHOW BOTH using its digital stations.. it simply refuses to do so.
They could easily show the AFL in AFL states and provide Olympic coverage there as well but have chosen not to.
7 management seems incapable of grasping that this is 2008 and not 1958!
7 has stuffed up BIGTIME ..either they are lazy or incompetent or both....but I suggest the real issue is money...it must have been going to cost them money to multicast ..and to hell with the audience this is about profits not sport.
In any case 7 has shown that it has no respect either for the audience or the Olympic spirit.
The fact that they removed the link to this web-board from the main 7 olympics site says volumes about 7's attitude. |

| hello, some more variety of sports would be great, and much less advertising would be even better. i was of the impression that is the main role of channel seven to show the olympic games but i think their sponsors are getting the gold medal. as far as channel seven is concerned are we watching THE ADVERTISING GAMES, THE SPONSOR GAMES or maybe even THE CORPORATE GREED GAMES. sbs is much more consistent and gets my vote. |

| if it was the womens match then it was softball, baseball is the mens sport - unfortunately the Aussie's aren't in it which will probably limit coverage but I want to see if Cuba & Canada can beat America because I believe all those countries are playing. |
