| Did it ever occur to you that seven only give them the dud sports to show. The thing with seven is they buy the rights to everything and show bugger all |

| Why would the Chinese have anything to do with getting the market share? |

lydsh - which wouldn't never happen.
What would be interesting would be to compare the market shares from Athens and Sydney against these games. |

| I couldnt agree more, and as for the "rating" stats listed earlier, of course people are watching channel 7. Its the ONLY network with the rights to the olympic games as such, and we all want to watch it, however if three different networks had all the same rights, i have NO doubt those ratings would be hugely different right now. :-) |

once you've bought the rights you have your own little monopoly.
the end product doesnt matter.
once you've sold your ad-space any other expenses are just eating into the profit.
the IOC or AOC or ACCC or something with C in it need to be very specific about any future contracts so the public arent shortchanged as they have been this time around. |

| there are a huge number of complaints regarding olympics coverage on a lot of different message boards and Judging by the number of posts and Olympic topic threads that were non favorable toward channel 7's coverage that have in fact now been deleted and pulled down in the last few days, I'd have to say that the real complaint stats overall regarding the poor channel 7 coverage are quite massive.....and rightly so. I would never gt away with delivering such an inferior product in my industry. why should they!!!! |

I, too, didn't know SBS was showing the Olympics until Ch 7 cut the last lap of the Women's Cycling to go to the soccer. Hubby, (a cyclist), was on top of things and tuned in to SBS. Thank goodness.
And WHO is that FOOL of a so-called "reporter" at the Track and Field?????
What a loser!!! He is an insensitive, rude, unAustralian jerk. Did Ch 7 run a reality show for wannabe reporters?? They scratched the bottom of the barrel for him. Not a big fan of Tamsyn, but he should know when to leave a woman alone. Hope his mother is ashamed. |

that's why I think the stats couldn't tell everything.
Of cos I think Channel 7 was doing better last night, no doubt about it. |

It would be irrelevant because SBS wouldn't have the same coverage as Seven 100% of the time. They are the complemantary broadcaster. SBS would have paid minimum if anything for the stuff they are broadcasting.
SBS wouldn't be able to afford the rights in the first place. |

hi Icat
But I think there'd be another factor we need to know is: which sports they were broadcasting during whole Olympics.
If both SBS and Channel 7 are broadcasting with same sports, and get same promotion, there'd be different story.
(I didn't know SBS was broadcasting Olympics until last Sunday) |

Ratings last night:
TEN: 17.3%
NINE: 17.5%
SEVEN: 44.4%
ABC: 16.5%
SBS: 4.2%
That's a huge market share. i think its even up on last week result.
Nationally 11 August 2008
Seven 42.7%
Nine 17.8%
Ten 16.6%
ABC 15.9%
SBS 7.0%
Yes. It is up slightly. So the many you are suggesting might actually only be a few if any.
It would appear that SBS has lost its viewers from its Olympic coverage rather than Channel 7. |

Last night I sat down to enjoy a few hours of quality sports programming.
Tuned into SBS of course - where one can watch an event in it's entirety - WITH minimal but expert commentary.
SEVEN on the other hand gives you 5 minutes of sports in the hour and then have commentators who just shout cr a p and distract the viewer.
And I so enjoyed the 2 Simpsons cartoons and Burn Notice last night.
SEVEN - you have shown us TV viewers absolute contempt during these games - and many of us have tuned out. |
