<<The audience expectations have grown, sevens coverage is stuck in the past and has stagnated>>
Having watched many Olympic coverages over the years I agree with this observation. Compared to what could be done and what is being done overseas the effort from Ch.7 is very amateurish indeed. They seem to have approached the Olympics not as a sporting event but as another 'lifestyle' program aimed at the lowest common denominator of viewer. |

At least they could have kept the Olympics on the HD channel. I guess that's just too much to ask of Channel 7.
Does anyone know if live streaming of the swimming or cycling is available? |

Brazil v Norway is definately better than Port v Collingwood.
Still pretty disgraceful that I will have to hear about any Australian Gold medals over the internet... |

| I am sooo angry. I put up with the AFL taking precedence over rugby union, Wallabies, having to wait until after 10pm to watch my preferred code of football BUT to have to miss the once in every 4 year events for Port to play Collingwood is making my blood boil!! There is no alternative!!! What about the swimming and the hockey and the cycling!! I'm fuming. SBS seems only to have access to other events ie Brazil playing Norway in the womens football, soccer.....doh!!! |

So, any other poor suckers in Adelaide and Melbourne who have to sit through Port v Collingwood in place of the ???tful Olympic coverage?
We we are sitting here watching a game no-one gives a flying toss about and has no significant bearing on the competition with a TV with 4 HD channel 7 channels and what have we got - 4 channels of AFL.
Channel 7 you are complete morons.
Definately the worst coverage of the Olympics ever - no doubt about it.
Cheers

| I absolutely agree that it's the worst coverage ever - inane commentators, bad timing of commercials and to make it even worse they are stopping the Olympics coverage to show 3 hours of AFL - shows zero commitment to Olympics broadcasting. |

| Why have Prime done it again? We're all settled in to watch the swimming, athletics and cycling on Friday night and the mongrels are off air showing afl for 3 hours! What is the point? I'll have to settle for SBS coverage but that is only showing soccer. Poorly done Prime & 7. |

<<I have watched the olympics for a lot of years and this is the worst ever coverage >>
I think that is very debatable. 7's coverage is certainly no better than in the past but its no worse either. The difference now is that we have progressed in our expectations, we know what the tv possibilities are and what the coverage could be like but seven are giving us 1980's / 1990's standard coverage.
The audience expectations have grown, sevens coverage is stuck in the past and has stagnated. |

Does everyone reaslise that 7 is going to the football live at 8pm for some of the state? this will surely be a big mistake. especially when families settle down to watch olympics, then to hear griggs "now were going to go to some LIVE football"
Bad choice 7 |

| I have been noticing alot of fast forwarding during the coverage, funny when Sandy Roberts says "WE ARE CROSSING BACK". Crossing back to what? The video tape? The coverage is poor and to make it even worse is that rediculous show they call Yum Cha! I'm put of chinese food now after having to watch that, why put on a show which is meant to be funny with B grade hosts. Andrew Daddo and the rest of them are light weights compared to The Dream and its host Roy and HG. Piss poor channel 7 just another disaster since Athens. |

| The Channel 7 coverage has been appalling on a number of levels. In their attempts to do too much they have cut and paste live team sports such as hockey, soccer and basketball which makes the games pointless to watch. The ads for their own upcoming shows being placed into the periods of live play has happened during many of the sports but was particularly bad during the soccer. You just cant put ads in soccer, its a low scoring sport and if there is a score during an ad break well it ruins the whole game. The other issue i have is with the placement of people that will feature in upcoming shows on the network commentating on sport. I dont want to hear Tom Williams commentating on any sport, i want professional sports journalists or former players/experts of the game. The sbs coverage has been far superior at least they play games in their entirety and go to ad breaks at the end of quarters or sets. Channel sevens commitment to sport is nothing short of being laughable, even the coverage of aussie rules, rugby union and the australian open is poor and littered with self promotion |

From the teaser for TT:
"we've watched every second of the games" to bring you the bloopers.
We'll i'm glad somebody got to, because we didn't. And of course they watched the footage so they can find the bloopers. So heyt can try and make lame jokes about athletes have had things go wrong after working extremely hard to get to the Games.
Now cmon 7 we al know who the real joke here is. That's right YOU. |

Wendy, there's nothing worse than a "never was", and I'm sure Daniel knows it ;)
Did you see the men's road race? The first Aussie home came 6th after cramping up and being unable to make the sprint for the line. The interviewer said to him TWICE "you couldn't have tried any harder I suppose, but do you think you could have done it?". I thought yeah, rub his nose in it you mongrel. |

| I am very disappointed with the swimming commentator Daniel K who is interviewing the swimmers poolside. Who the hell does he think he is? Who is he to ask Libby after winning her silver medal in the 100m Freestyle 'people are asking what is wrong with Libby Trickett?' This coming from a ex-swimmer who should know better. Oh wait - he didn't actually ever win an individual olympic medal but feels that instead of congratulating our swimmers he should ask inappropriate questions to people who are nothing short of champions. If he can't ask anything positive to our swimmers who have done their best for themselves and their country then don't do the job. Channel 7 - is this the best that you can do? I can think of a number of former swimmers who would do a much better job than him. And maybe lets get a woman on the team - after all its the women swimmers who are outperforming the men. Lastly - I agree - Michael Phelps may be a legend swimmer but it was clear from his interview that he doesn't care about Australia and I can say - I'm not behind him so thanks Daniel but you don't speak for me. Go Aussie! |

I posted earlier in the day on another topic heading
Why doesn't CH7 use all their digital channels (they do have 3 or 4 available) and show specific events in their entirety. I remember them doing this during the Sydney2000 games via their Optus Sports TV channels. Surely this would enhance the take-up and highlight the benfits of Digital TV rather than their stupid TIVO ads. More coverage.. more commercials... greater reach .. oh and of course happier consumers!! |

| The Olympic coverage by Channel 7 has been disgusting. We have given up. I love the swimming but can do without the 20 replays of the same event. Australia is the defending Olympic titleholders in Mens Hockey..we have had about three minutes of a match with an add right at the time of a penalty short corner. Where is the coverage of all the other sports that Australians are competing in right at this moment. Then of course in some places of Rural Australia if one is unlucky enough to have upgraded to a digital television there is no coverage at all...we had to borrow an old anaglogue television from a friend. This is one family that will not be bothering to watch anymore of this garbage coverage. |

Question to the MODS - does Channel 7 management get any feedback from these forums?
I'm impressed that this thread is still going since I haven't really followed it since Monday since my anger and frustration just turned into a state of resignation that this is the way the 2008 Olympics will be televised.
What I don't understand is why Channel 7 didn't take advantage of their extra digital channels to offer their viewers more choice (which is the underlying gripe that most people on this thread have had). Not only would they have been able to satisfy more viewers, they would have been able to earn more revenue by creating more advertising space with only an incremental outlay. Needless to say that I think Fox Sports and Channel 9 probably already have plans to do this. |
