| Totally agree that the seven broadcast of the Games was shocking. Just hope all the sports executives were watching the ABC broadcast of the paralympics to see how it should be done. Broadcasts of lots of sports, highlights package twice nightly on their other channel-- why could seven not even provide a highlights package on another of their networks. Absolutely disgraceful coverage and too many bloody ads for their own programs. For goodness sake how many times do you have to see it???? |

Those missing Roy and HG should've tuned into triple j each afternoon during the games as they had a 30min show each day called the Golden Ring show.
You can still download them from the website:
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/thissportinglife/pod cast/tsl.xml
Those whole lot should still be on the site just not linked from that page. It's pretty easy to work out the filenames.
eg. http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/triplej/tsl/goldenring _08_15.mp3 |

All I'll say is this: http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=24889343 147 and the following..
Since the first commercial break in Seven's opening ceremony "broadcast" I am proud to announce I no longer watch Channel Seven and allow myself to be subjected to disrespect, waste of time and now I can restore my dignity.
It started with Seven wasting the rights to the NSL, and the continued incompetence in Olympic "broadcasts" and general TV programming (and the lack of quality content and credibility)
I will NEVER watch Channel Seven EVER AGAIN. |

Hey ch7, thanks for the worst coverage ever of any olympics.
And guess what I am doing now?
I am watching Time Team on ABC Ch2.
Yes, thats right, I would rather watch a bunch of Brits trudging around in the rain, dredging up ditches and exclaiming in raptures over shapeless bits of old pottery, than anything you offer.
And guess whose news I will be watching in a couple of minutes, at 7pm? ...hint...it aint yours, mate. |

Great point sledge_oz!
Instead of cutting the Olympics for the AFL, why couldn't they show the AFL on 10 std digital and show the Olympics on 10 hd digital?
I know not everyone has digital tv but it is getting more popular, also, you don't need a hd tv to watch hd for those who may think you do. |

brat, they had many years after winning their broadcast contract to negotiate with their competitors to take up the slack for AFL, don't give us this contractual BS.
They also had plenty of time to lobby the government for an exemption to the rules to multi-channel broadcast on their multitude of digital channels. STOP making excuses for them.
Having lost their bid for 2012, one would think they'd go off with a bang and set such a high standard that we might be complaining about 9/FOX's broadcast in 4 years time. |

| Yep, worst coverage ever. Absolutely insulting. Saw about 1% of the weight lifting and track and field, none of the shooting, but they constantly shoved gymnastics down our throat. If they had an email address, they would have had thousands of complaints. |

Have 7 been drug tested? I think they would test positive for being high and delusional for claiming there were only a few hundred complaints.
Their coverage of the track & field was terrible, it was pot luck if you were watching when they actually showed an event (only exception were the marathons). I didn't see any long jump, triple jump, decathlon. Where were they?
Oh but I did see Michael blinking Phelps about 2.5m times during the two weeks which made me sick. I must now go and take some drugs to get over this trully awful Olympic experience. |

| And everyone now loathes Softball. Wherever you go, (we have just got back from interstate) Channel 7's screw up of the Softball game is the talk. You would have thought they had learnt their lessons - we were dumbfounded and very angry when with 5 minutes to go, they take eastern states to the News, which consisted of the Olympic Games rehash. What was a terrible 16 days of coverage just got a whole lot worse. Hang your head in shame Stokes, you have nothing to be proud of, except for getting rid of that stupid woman on Yum Cha halfway through. She should never have been there in the first place! |

maybe someone should just tell the Olympic people to not put the games on from March to September - the network had to show the AFL because they are contracted to show a minimum of 2 matches a week & there are people who don't care for the Olympics but do like to watch footy, or other stuff that 7 normally shows but took off for those 2 weeks.
7 still showed more of the Olympics then they did of the Winter Olympics, they covered most sports even if some things were delayed because not everything can be shown live and if anyone actually believes that 9 will do a better job then they are joking because 9 kills sports worse then 7. |

| Absolutely the worst coverage I have seen in my life. Not only do they chop and change in the middle of a sporting climax they then show Today Tonight or the AFL during the OLYMPIC GAMES???!!! Maybe someone should tell them that the Olympics is only on once every 4 years and the AFL is on every year for 6 months...stupid 7. |

I'm writing to Gosper (IOC) personally with a copy to the PM and Sports Minister.
We've been robbed by a bunch of corporate misfits who put greed and self interest before the spirit, essence and historical perspective of the games.
I would gladly pay $200 for the right to have a choice of digital venue streams for future games. Anything to be removed from the clutches of such gross manipulators. |

Kerry Stokes has rejected our citicisms, saying there was only a few hundred compaints.
We really are in the spin/damage control mode aren't we, Kerry?
Between the Yahoo7 TV General Discussion Board and Sports Message Board (e.g. Olympic Share the Spirit forum), there are over 3000, yes, THREE THOUSAND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE OLYMPIC COVERAGE!
That is not including message boards other than Yahoo7.
Show us your thousands of complimentary posts? (If they existed you surely would be bragging about them wouldn't you?)
Don't try to bury this in your excrement pile, Seven. There are MILLIONS of complaints out there.
And Kerry Stokes is trying to re-position the complaints as being from people dissappointed because their pet sport wasn't shown.
READ THE COMPLAINTS, it's all abut the sub-standard mockery of a coverage you provided, examples being too numerous to re-list here.
Some-one with a huge printer please print off all the posts from these forums and send them to 7 (and their sponsors) so they have them in writing, because they are denying their existence! |

I am so relieved that this nightmare is finally over. I should get a gold medal for enduring 16 days of channel seven's appalling telecast in order to see those marvellous athletes compete.
We all should get a Gold for surviving 7's marathon assault on our love of sport.
Bring on the Paralympics and thank the gods ABC Channel 2 is televising them.
Goodbye channel seven, and good riddance. |

| At least the Eastern States viewers could watch the game. We in the west had to endure a tooth-extraction of an AFL game followed by a "news obligation". |

How about the massacre of the Gold Medal bball game. Footy then 8 minutes of actually bball which had about 4 mins of ads at the worst time ...then news followed by highlights of 4th quarter all 90 seconds ...
But why are we not suprised. And you know what as pathetic as they were 7 still had record viewership .. so they are probably patting themsleves on the back saying what a great job they did and rolling in money ..cause that's the bottom line ..the end figures
so we can kick and scream all we want but in the end Channel 7 still wins and don't give a damn |

I tried to find an email or form address on the IOC site here: http://www.olympic.org/uk/index_uk.asp, so I could complain.
No luck, someone else could try. Kevin Gosper is our man on the IOC.
These are the people who could make a difference next time. They have control over the rights, as I understand it, so they may be able to stipulate a reasonable standard of coverage.
I am really frustrated that a bunch of media profiteers like ch7 could demean the spirit of the Olympics and get away with it. The IOC should be as well.
They treated the hallowed main Olympic stadium like a plaything, rarely went there live, didn't show any field sports live, missed some of the best track and field events, and couldn't even find time to do them in replay.
We suffered endless coverage of time consuming team sports, diving and gymnastics - and I've no problem with that except they should have made time for main stadium events, and if they could not, passed over to SBS.
It was a deliberate strategy to focus on advertising potential while at the same time deny anyone else a chance to show events that could challenge the viewing numbers.
It was an outright disgrace! |

Showing 4th quarter highlights of the dream team playing against Spain in what has to be one of the greatest Olympic Bball games in history is just inexcusable.
My reaction was WTF are these people smoking?
I mean why the hell did you bother to show anything at all?
Channel 7 should never be allowed to broadcast another Olympics again because they plain suck balls. |

| what a complete waste of money and time. we should all sue channel 7 together for cheating us of our time. most of the events were not live, and they probably took millions from red rooster, lenovo, commonwealth bank what not. at least the advertising campaign worked cos we remember what products those ads were on about. |

Ch7's coverage (or lack of) wouldve been barely exceptable last century nevermind the 21st century.
It was awful but hopefully its a wake up call not just to ch7 but all commercial networks that the Aussie public has matured, we are getting sick of Ad's every 4 or 5 minutes. PERHAPS this is the last time TV stations will butcher big events such as the olympics. |

Watching the Gold medal basketball match has got to be one of the most frustrating things I have ever had to do. May I remind channel 7 it is the GOLD medal match and I don't just want to watch highlights of the whole last quarter compacted into 1 minute...aaaaarrrrgggg. You dumb idiots at channel 7 cut to commmercial during play (might I add extra long commercials)...finally the adds end and a team calls a time-out and then there's more adds...so so frustrating!!! Show some respect to your viewers and get into the spirit of the games.
I really hope someone from channel 9 is reading this forum and improves the coverage for 2012 London games. Just understand that swimming is only one part of the games and there are other sports being played out. |
