THE Seven Network has taken out gold for its coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Seven beat American network NBC and the UK's BBC and other international broadcasters to receive the gold award for best Olympic program, by the International Olympic Committee.

The Olympic Golden Rings awards, which seeks to promote and award excellence in television coverage of the Games, were presented in Lausanne, Switzerland, overnight by IOC president Jacques Rogge.

It is the second time Seven has won the award, after claiming the top prize in 2006 for its coverage of the Winter Olympics in Torino.

Seven's coverage of the Beijing Olympics was the most-watched event in Australian television history, with more than 17.2 million Australians watching all or part of the Games.
