i never saw the olympic flame lit as they were going off.
this is a myth
even if it was lit up, this would mean they had to have recorded the fireworks during the olympics but there were no reports of anything |

Fireworks were not fake!
At the real show, there were all those fireworks.
They were lit all across the huge city, that is why your eyes probably got the smoke, fireworks and sounds all mixed up.
Ask someone that was there and they will tell you the fire works are real.
Ask someone that has spent New Years in Beijing and they will tell you fireworks are huge like that.
Just because you haven't seen or imagine it doesn't mean its fake.
Open your mind. |

| They love their drums don't they? I found it very colourful, but kind of tawdry, it DID lack soul for me. I felt they were very watchful for any kind of trouble, and no spontenaeity. Still, elements of the opening and closing were speccy, but Barcelona and Sydney remain in my memory forever. |

Of course they have a rich culture and history, I never criticised that. I challenge you to name a memorable moment of the ceremony. Having 5000 people all jumping around at the same time might make for colourful TV and a slow-mo montage, but it doesn't have the staying power of say, Lionel Ritchie singing a song you can still hum the tune to 20 years later, or Sarah Brightman and Jose Carreras excellent number at the closing of 1992 games.
It takes something special to make an event memorable. Unfortunately, the fakery and reliance on technology just reminds me of a George Lucas extravaganza, a CGI belch-fest for ADHD sufferers. |

| Spectacular though it appeared, Beijing's ceremony seemed to lack the soul and character that made Sydney such a memorable experience. Heck, I can even remember LA 1984 being a memorable experience because of the glam and Hollywood touch making it such a special occasion. One fond memory of my childhood. I doubt kids today would remember Beijing, then again, it's probably appealing to the playstation generation who have short attention spans and can't discern real flesh and blood from a hologram. |

bettestreep..... looks like you're happy for mistaken reasons. Your considerations are conjured up in your own mind. As for you, you yawned a number of times.....probably because it was way past your 8 pm sleep time. Otherwise, you're probably just jealous because it made our sydney olympics look like sh**. |

townsville - i am so happy that you consider fireworks to be your guide to life happiness!
as for me - it was an "oh well" ceremony. i actually yawned a number of times.
and as for the london segment - well we just know that beijing has nothing to worry about being beaten at that stakes.
really now - how freaking krap was that???
and i guess they had to PAY thatoverrated twat Beckham MILLIONS just to stand there and kick a freaking football!!!!
I didn't think bad taste could be beaten - at the commonwealth games a few years back - we had beckham standing there in his gold encrusted Vodafone tracky suit and now we have him "thankfully covering up those hideous tattoos" just kicking a ball into the crowd!!!
Geez - it reminds me of Angry Anderson's "Bound for Glory" AFL experience!
BOTH of them just plain vomit sessions!!! |

They're fake though. The firework displays were prerecorded, because you could still see the flame, even though it was unlit in real life!
Sydney's were genuine, that's why they were better. |

| It looked like the biggest fireworks display in history. It made our sydney 2000 one (and our sydney new years fireworks) look like twiddly winks heheh. |
