Is there a genuine utility of international standard in the comp?
I haven't seen one since Shaun Berrigan retired. Even Hunt was JUST adequate. |

If you pick a specialist back on the bench, there's a high chance that he won't get used. Backs really do not need to be substituted during the game, except in case of injury.
If you pick four forwards on the bench and one of the backs gets injured, you're equally screwed.
I don't mind them picking a utility as long as he's good enough to warrant selection, and not being picked just because the selectors think we NEED a utility. |

Well its all about the final now..
Kiwis to flog England and we to flog the Frogs..
Enough time to get the team sorted out with who's playing where when it counts..
Bad luck bout your 2 point Pommy victory prediction kip :-) |

MON, I'm just making it clear that Farah isn't to blame for the way he played. He is a different type of hooker to Smith. Sheens needed to play Farah (and Gidley last week) as utilities, not interchanges.
I just do not see a utility at this level as a necessity. |

Brad, no-one is blaming Farah for the team's poor second half performance, but it's pretty obvious playing him off the bench didn't work.
If they HAVE to play a utility on the bench, pick Lewis and three forwards. |

Let's also not brush aside the fact that the Poms had 2/3 possession in the second half. Also a 13 - 7 penalty count will wear on any team.
Poms also had 3 times the number of quick plays in the second half.
All combined it meant the Poms racked up over 1000m for the second half. Nearly Australia's match total.
Fuggin useless Farah!!!! It's all his fault!!!! |

I didn't watch the second half but RF can't be blamed for the way Sheens played him. The understanding was that it was between him and Gidley for the utility spot. I would have thought he wouyld have been on the paddock at the same time as Smith.
it highlights once again though the fact, and some on here have been critical of me in the past for saying this, the fact that at this level a utility bench player is absolutely NOT required.
When the 19 were named earlier in the week I was suggesting Farah and Shillington should get the nod but Sheens has not played either of the utilities correctly now in either game. Starting to wish he'd not played Farah and gone with Waterhouse instead.
Farah is of international standard but only if chosen to play 80 minutes. Hooker is not a position you can interchange. It is totally disruptive. |

| I'm still laughing at the people who suggested that Gallen shouldn't have been in the squad, let alone the 17. Easily the pick of our forwards last night. |

| One other thought - is Thurston under pressure for his spot from Cronk? His form hasn't been great and he also seems to be firmly in the bad books with the referee Ganson, who will probably be officiating the final... |

Hayne is definitely up to standard - as a fullback. You wouldn't put Darren Lockyer in the front row, so I don't know why Hayne is playing on the right wing.
Smith is an 80 minute player and Farah is barely up to Origin standard; it's a clear case of club favouritism from Sheens. |

| Every thing was going fine until Farrah came on, what was Sheens thinking to even pick him, he needs go back to the original team from last week minus Hayne, he doesn't appear to be up to international standard. |

| Why oh why did they interchange Cam Smith with Farrer. Smith was having a great game kicking , passing tackling etc, he is an 80 minute player. No offense to Farrer who is a class player, just not in Smith's class. Gallen actually played great with strong hit ups and good defense. |

Great first half by the Roos.
Great second half by the Poms.
Poms will get flogged by the Sheep Abusers next week.
The ref actually did most things right keeping in mind they ref differently up there in the NH.
Why was there plenty of empty seats right thru the game???
England v Australia usually packs them in no matter what game they play...
OH, HANG ON...IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW...
ENGLAND FORGOT TO POACH PLAYERS FROM 3 OTHER NATIONS TO STICK IN THEIR TEAM AND CHANGE THEIR NAME TO GREAT BRITAIN.
NO WONDER THE GROUND WAS ONLY 70% FULL. |

Although I'm tipping an Aussie win, it will be a difficult win. The backs can score from anywhere on the park but the forwards need to lift a couple of notches. They were outmuscled by the coconut pack last week which shows we are no certainties.
Our forward stocks at the moment are as low a standard as I've seen at international level.
Retaining Gallen in the 17 shows this bloke has friends in the right places. That second rate coathanger he tried to land on Isaac Luke showed he's not up to it. Some have said his mission was to lay on a bit of stick but the Kiwis handled him with ease.
Hindmarsh's inclusion will add some defensive starch to the side. |

It seems bizarre that this game will be refereed by an English referee and we are still debating the ruck rules.
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/austral ia-still-in-dark-over-rules/story-e6frexnr-1225792 211153
If he keeps them apart, Kangaroos will win easily. If like the NZ game, they are on top of each other then the Poms have a chance.
It seems poor planning by the coach that he didnt know there would be an English referee even though it was announced 2 months ago. |
