500K a year is nothing compared to what the QLDers are going to offer for the GF.
If the banana benders want to give Gallop 5 mill to host a few GFs then Gallop will take the cash and the games are going North.

Yep, just a few scare tactics to get NSW to fork out the big $$$. It won't leave Sydney, nor should it. It would be like taking the AFL GF away from the MCG! Absolutely ludicrous.

Suncorp is too small, the MCG is too far away from the action. It's not like the GF has been poorly hosted in the past either.

Nothing in this story at all.

You know when a big name player comes towards the end of a long term contract (Thurston) the grub that is his player manager will "leak" spurious offers to the media in order to attempt to increase the market value via false demand.

That is what you are seeing here.

Sorry, but I didn't read your post well. Sydney is a good half-way point between those two, but what if it was between New Zealand and NQ?

Only cos most were sold out prior to knowing what teams were going to be in the final. Everyone thought Dragons Bulldogs for sure at that stage.

Yes, but if QLD is willing to pay up to 6 times as much as NSW is currently paying the NRL might not care about the crowd number.

Good for the game to have financial competition like that - it'll only make it richer.

Can't see it happening. Sydney can host an 80,000 crowd, Brisbane 50,000. After the hullabaloo over Saints not moving their home semi to a bigger ground the pressure is on Gallop and co to make sure the fans are looked after.
Besides, it could be a bargaining chip to up the ante from the NSW gov.

Sydney could be stripped of the NRL Grand Final with Queensland and Victoria set to make multi-million dollar bids to host the event.

The Seven Network's reported talks on a Queensland NRL Grand Final have already begun with an offer of $2 - $3 million a year.

The New South Wales Government pays half a million dollars a year to host league's decider at ANZ Stadium and its current six year deal expires at the end of 2012.

NRL chief David Gallop told the Seven Network the league is considering its options for the showpiece event.

"We're very serious about looking at the options and we accept the heartland is Sydney but we need to be considering other options," Gallop said.

According to the Seven Network, Sydney and Brisbane could be hosting alternate Grand Finals from 2013, with New South Wales facing a battle on a number of fronts to retain the Grand Final in its own right.

New South Wales Premier Nathan Rees will have to up his bid to be assured of securing the event. With an election looming in March 2011, losing the state's biggest sports event would be a disaster.

It's been reported the Victorian Government is also very interested in snaring the premiership decider but Queensland remains the front-runner.

SENSATIONAL. Bring it to Queensland. Sooner the Better.
