Hi there gents,
Weights are great if used for the correct reasons and techniques. But remember when out on the field you are not carrying any wieghts like in the gym.
You can simulate carrying a couple of opponents by the firemans carry up a hill or rise. Altitude training or hill climbs with back packs with various weights like sand bags is much more beneficial. It takes a bit longer to achieve your optimum fitness but you are less likely to suffer the types of injuries that result from heavy weight training instead of endurance training.
But that is just my opinion. |

Best thing you can do is plenty of road runs and pool work.
Try squeezing an early morning swim in with a few laps before breakfast |

big weights wont really help you. sure youl have the strength, but its the various movements a muscle goes thru that will bring you undone. do stuff in the gym that utilises movement for the whole muscle, like medicine balls, use the little trampolines instead of just standing there when doing weights... shyte like that.
and whatever you do, always. repeat, ALWAYS, get into either a cold shower or a cold pool after youve trained or played. it is the best recovery bar none. No deep heat, no spas. the colder the better. |

| Weights training will have helped I'd say BK. I'm squatting 160 and dead lifting 120 so the knee strength shouldnt be a prob and I'm one of the few blokes at my gym who can shrug 50kg dumbells so the shoulders should be alright too I'd reckon. |
